I ended up doing a lot of traipsing around, from one end of town to the other, and I didn't even get a cup of coffee. As I hadn't been able to call in at Charlie's, I decided to have one at the Corn Exchange, after lunch. The cafe there is expensive, but at least the coffee is good. They don't do table service, so I queued behind a lady who was ordering some cakes, and drinks. The stoner behind the counter looked off his head, and took ages to take her order, I must have been standing there 10-15 minutes. While I was waiting, I took off my rucsac, and put it on a chair at a table directly in front of the counter, along with my coat, and scarf, putting my reading glasses on the table. Eventually, the lady had finished paying, and went off to her table. At this point, the stoner said, "I'm sorry, but we're going to have to shut for a while." I asked him if he couldn't have told me that a little earlier (rather than just watch me stand there, for no reason), but the point was lost on the idiot. Two hours later, I was at the opposite end of town, when I realised I'd left my reading glasses on the table. I walked back, and was astonished to find they were exactly where I'd left them, on the table, right in front of the counter
A good job you don't live in the same house or there might be even more misery !

It’s a giant warehouse full of items sold in quantities larger than most people need. Here they do the rotisserie chickens in several big ovens in the meat department in back. I bet they’ve got a hundred of them going at a time, and they’re cheap, $4.99 for a whole chicken. Pretty tasty, too, and useful if you need chicken for a soup or casserole.
