They still very common in pubs, and a welcome sight in the winter Generally, fireplaces are much less common in homes here, than in the past, but they are common where I live. Most folks burn wood, but the government are trying to stop it. Tool Man has a stove, which he's very fond of. I've helped him gather wood in the past, but last winter he was burning a load of coal he shovelled out of an old school cellar. I'm afraid I only get to burn wood outdoors, and it's been raining so long now my wood pile is probably over-seasoned

LOL! I know the blokes who owned it, 20 years ago they just had a bar, but over the years, they added a dozen more, along with 2 breweries. Their brand seemed to be very successful, so it was a huge surprise when they suddenly went bust, earlier in the year. Apparently, the new brewery was just costing them too much. It looked like everyone was going to lose their jobs, but fortunately, another local brewery stepped in, bought everything for a token amount of a few thousand, took on the debts, and a deal was agreed where the 2 founders were employed running the brewery I was in the other day (not that they need the work, they're both millionaires). I don't know what happened, but a couple of months later, another bail-out was needed

I know what you mean mate, I've been trying to restrain myself since having my stroke. I did treat myself to chips and gravy in the market It's Tool Man's favourite, amazing how much bigger the portion seemed without Jaws digging in!

Thanks Steve, it's still absolutely chucking it down, and I had to go to town unfortunately. It was cold this morning, but has turned humid since, which is about my least favourite kind of weather I was only 5 minutes from home, when a BMW went past, and soaked me!
