Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thank you Bob, it was quiet and peaceful in the city centre yesterday. I had a conversation with a fairly senior cop I know, and he told me that, while they had riot squads on standby, they think they have it cracked now. West Yorkshire suffered much less than other parts of the region, and I was pleased to learn that not a single police officer was injured here. The courts are processing those arrested very quickly, since in the light of CCTV and camera footage, most are pleading guilty

Thank you for the detailed photos, (BTW Imgur will give you the code to post them directly here, it's very straightforward), it's very interesting to see more of the construction. I have a couple of more questions, does the knife have a half-stop, and did your grandfather serve overseas at all, in WW2 for example? I'm very interested to know how a feller from the great state of Kentucky picked up a Lambsfoot knife :)

Very handsome Jeff :)

Thanks pal :)

Cool pics Mitch :)

Fabulous shot Dwight :)

Looking good David :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is having a great weekend :) After the stress of the previous week, I had a good day yesterday. I had coffee at Charlie's, and then called round to my pal Matt's, and chatted to his kids about their recent holiday, in Cephalonia. Matt is off to the Isle of Man tomorrow, with the kids, and his dad and uncle, so his missus gave him a free pass :D We headed into town, and had a few pints with Wolfie, and then went to the new Vietnamese place I've been going to. We had time for another pint, and picked up some cans, before heading to the cinema to see the Wolverine/Deadpool movie, which was enjoyably daft, and then had a bit of a pub crawl. Best night out I've had in ages :D It's nice weather again today, but unfortunately, I have a bit of work to do, so I'm going to push on with that, and hopefully I can get out in the sunshine later ;) Enjoy your Sunday Guardians

Jack, he grew up on a tobacco farm in Kentucky, and did not serve overseas. He moved to California in 1919 to become a builder in Fresno, so it’s possible he picked this up later….The knife does not have a half stop either.

Beni and I thank you all! But, Dwight, even though Beni might be a Lamborghini, he's been driven through a few mud puddles—
he's no longer a show pony; more of a handsome draught horse!

WaBooooooooooom Sunday 😎 👍🤠

This cool, bright, breezy, weather is giving me the warm fuzzies, as if summer is winding down and harvest is coming, followed by a season of comparative rest.
Of course nowadays we don't get to rest in the winter, and in the old days the season of rest probably drove our ancestors nuts. Not an unpleasant metaphor for death, though.

Not that I've had any death knell diagnoses.
Good to see Ole Toffee Wings again today 👍🤠
Good morning Guardians !

It's been a while since I carried my '19, so I'll remedy that today 👍

That DIW is popping in the sunshine 👍🤠

Glad to hear you're in good health, and as insightful as ever Jer :)
Glad to hear you had a good day with your mates. Nice picture of Waboom 👍
Thanks Steve, it was fun, and fortunately, I avoided a hangover! :D
Good morning Guardians. Sunny morning but it's very "heavy" out there. Just got back from the morning stroll and I was drenched in sweat. Exhausted as well. The high humidity just wears me out. But I usually feel pretty good after I finish so as long as I can keep doing it I'll soldier on. Happy to have my Blue Rope with me today.

Thank you, he must have had a fascinating life, and I bet folks were intrigued by the unusual knife he carried - as I am! :D In terms of the way that knives are dated, I'm afraid that there really is very little to go on here, because Sheffield knives were often made in the same way (by one cutler or another, for generations), and the hafting materials were usually bought in. Here's a James Howarth Lambsfoot, with similar covers, from the 1950's, for example. Often, it's the quality of manufacture that assists in dating, but Lambsfoot knives were simple, rough and ready knives, a bit like Barlows. It's a broad guess, but I'm going to suggest 1930's (1930-1939) for your grandfather's knife. Sorry I can't be more helpful

Hope everyone is having a restful weekend.

I understand. I lead a very sedate boring life now days. I don't mind as the rumor is I had an exciting young life. 😁 At this point in my life I'm content to fade off into the sunset. 🤠
