Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Away from home this week and next, renting a cottage on Lake Huron in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. I have a couple of lambsfoot knives with me for this trip. One is Black Jack, my 2018 ebony Guardians lambsfoot. Here's an old photo of Black Jack near sunset on the front wall of a raised garden bed at home. I hope to post some new pics of this same knife while we're up here at Waterlawn Cottages.

Wifi still excruciatingly slow this morning (I hoped the problem was related to possibly more people trying to use wifi last night after they got back to their cottages, but maybe demand is still high in the cool of the morning (46˚F this morning at 6:15am) before folks get out and about), but I FINALLY got a photo to load:

Hope you get enough, been a tough time.

To be honest for some blokes it’s a bit late. Just hard a hard chat to one of my blokes he’s written off his canola. Beans and lupins are too far behind to catch up too. Cereals and lambs will be pulling most the weight around here.

Jack, the pace of this thread has occasionally been a topic of discussion, and I always find such discussions interesting (although I find the pace itself intimidating ).

I used the Search function to fairly quickly come up with a couple of interesting data items regarding pace of the thread.
Post 1 was on June 26, 2016.
Post 50000 was on June 15, 2021, days short of 5 years later.
Post 100000 was on August 15, 2024, 3 years and 2 months later than the 50K-post milestone.
So the second 50K posts came roughly 40% faster than did the first 50K posts.

Got a package from the mailman a few minutes ago.

And I'm impressed with all the contents. My wife, who is an excellent designer, commented on how cool the package was (and she was particularly charmed by the chip butty sticker). She like how the Albers was bagged and boxed, too.

This is a stunning knife. It is a great design and I love the materials, and the execution is as good or better than any other knife I've ever held. This is masterfully made. I'm extremely impressed. Albers gets a lot of hype, but honestly, it's the hype that doesn't live up to the knife - I don't have enough superlatives to accurately convey the excellence here.

Thanks to btb01 for masterminding this project, to Jack Black for signing off on it, and to @ea42 for realizing it so beautifully. This will be carried a lot!

One of my favorite parts of previous Guardians SFOs was the group pics Jack would take of all the knives together. I posted one that I took of the 2024 Guardians knives in my post the other day, but now that the knives are arriving at their destinations and you guys are sharing your great pics of them here, I can initiate Step 2 of the Guardians SFO group pic tradition: finding members’ knives in the group pic!

Here’s an example from the 2019 Ironwood Guardians knives:

And here’s the blank photo I started off with for this years:

I went ahead and identified what I could so far based on the pics that y’all have posted, but if you could, please check the blank photo above to make sure I got yours right, especially if your knife doesn’t have any dark spots on the front. There does seem to be enough variation in the texture and grain of the micarta to be able to identify these, but I had to look pretty closely in some cases, and it may be easier for you do with your knife in hand.

There was a time when I used to post a lot of threads here, outlining my hunt for 'Pointy Treasure', and examining various aspects of Sheffield knife history. The posts tended to be lengthy, with a large number of images. I don't post threads like that anymore, because every few years, some web wunderkind comes along, and does such a fantastic job of re-vamping the BF software, that the old posts are effectively destroyed - the text mangled, and the photos lost - and most importantly, there is no way to re-edit those posts. I had a Polish neighbour for some years. Despite being a drunken slob, he learned to play the guitar quite competently, but his taste in music was terrible!

Interesting, Jack. I was under the impression that the chocolate orange had been around for a while, too. I like the crisipness you get with the Club, and I think the mint version mitch13 mentioned sounds pretty good, too.

If I remember correctly, it appeared in the late 1970's Barrett It has become a bit of an icon!

You’re probably right, Jack. I have won a few of your giveaways over the years, I just can’t remember which ones off the top of my head. (I would go back and look, but I just spent what felt like 30 minutes looking for one of the old Guardians knife group pics with the names on it, and I need a break from searching through this thread.)

I’m glad you like it, Tyson! And I’m glad your wife liked the package and its accoutrements.

I have to admit, the chip butty sticker was the easier of the two. I think that’s the first image that pops up when you google “chip butty” (which just happened to be exactly like what I had in mind). All I did was remove the background.

The other sticker was a collaborative effort between myself and my sister-in-law, who is a graphic designer. I tried it on my own first, but I just couldn’t get it quite right, so I asked her to help me out. She put together her own version, which looked good, but the font wasn’t quite right, so I found a font that worked better and redid that bit (along with an few other small changes).

Are these Yorkshire roses? When I hunted buffalo a few years back our guide was a Brit and had a tattoo of a rose which he said was a Yorkshire rose. Looks very much the same.

I do love history and have read a bit on the war of the roses but can’t remember which belongs where.
