Thank you Rick, I'm grateful to everyone who made it possibleThat is some EPIC micarta, Jack. Wow!
The one I have is one of my favorite knives. Not one complaint about it!I very nearly bought one of those myself but wondered the very same thing about F&F. It’s a nice looking knife from half way across the world at least. I just won’t get any closer![]()

I guess it's the luck of the draw, though. I've recently got a fancy M. May and there's nothing really wrong with it, but I expected it to be... Nicer?? I don't know it just isn't as refined as I thought it would be.
I say good sir, that is sweet.![]()
Thank you for sharing those incredible pics Barrett![]()

When I first announced the 2024 Guardians knives, I mentioned that I had some in-progress photos that Eric @ea42 had shared with me while he was working on the knives. Now that most of the knives have arrived, I thought I’d share those with y’all.
This was the micarta roll/cylinder that was used for the handles. As you can see, it started out looking a bit rough, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t at least a tad anxious about how the end result would look, but you’ve to trust the process and, of course, they turned out great!
![]()
![]()
After cross-cutting the cylinder into disks, Eric ended up with a couple pieces that he couldn’t use due to voids or breakage. This was one scrap piece that he partly polished to see what the color and texture would look like.
![]()
Here’s one of the stamped liners before assembly. Rather than stamp all five characters individually on every knife (and for a cleaner execution), Eric ordered a stamp from the guy who makes his tang stamps.
![]()
Eric said he likes to glue and pin the handle material to the liners. Here’s the micarta being glued to the liners.
![]()
Here are a couple pics of the assembled knives during the grinding and shaping process.
![]()
![]()
This one is shaped and ready for buffing.
![]()
![]()
And finally, here’s the first bunch of finished knives that I got to see.
![]()
Thanks again to Eric for taking these pics along the way so we could see some of the process of how the 2024 Guardians knives were made!![]()
Hope you get to go to the market for a bit.Market Day tomorrow, and while I don't have time to hang out there all day, I'm hoping to call in at least

Sorry to hear you're crook JackGood morning guardians, didn’t get much sleep last night and sick of tossing and turning so just thought I’d wake up. Fluid and crap sitting on my chest.
I was chatting with an American friend recently and he was talking about root beer which is not a thing in Aus. We both did some googling and found that sarsparilla is almost the same thing.
I bought a 4 pack, opened the first one and took a sip. Awful! It’s like a mix between the stuff we put on before footy games to warm up muscles and liquorice. My wife tasted it and thought the same, though added “it’s probably an acquired taste”.
Not to be one to waste anything I finished the rest over the next week.
Yesterday I was walking past the soft drink isle and spotted them on sale, something drew me to them. I’ll be, I think I like it now?
Fortunately the knife is not an acquired taste. Like me Hannah loves ebony, but even she really likes the Micarta on this lamb. So it gets the wife tick of approval

To a large extent, it is the luck of the draw with them RickThe one I have is one of my favorite knives. Not one complaint about it!

One of my favouritesPS that company makes pretty good ginger beer. Not as spicy like the Jamaican ones.
You might be able to find some photos of May knives linked to in the Thread Index Jack, though sadly, it only covers the early part of the thread. You could also search within this thread, using the BF function. It's interesting to see how much 'his' Lambsfoot blade has changed over the years. I have the occassional ginger beer, and the occassional Dandelion & Burdock. That's about it for the most partThat doesn’t look that great to me, best send it over here to get it out of view. No need to thank me I’m just that kind of guy.
No that’s a beauty right there. I wasn’t a fan of file work until I got a couple of knives with some, and now I really dig it.
May’s knives have been on my to try list, I keep reading mixed things so haven’t taken the plunge yet. Do you have photos of the May knife?
Bundaberg ginger beer is my go to soft drink of choice, unbeatable! I don’t really drink coke or sprite or any soft drinks except the occasional ginger beer and now evidently sarsparilla!
Question is, whose work is it?!That looks like pretty neat work to me mate![]()
Thanks Steve, I'm not sure I'll be able to post a full report, but I'll do my bestGreat pic Jack, look forward to the market report !
Thank you BobA noble example Jack.![]()
Thanks a lot David
Hope you get to go to the market for a bit.![]()
Sorry to hear you're crook JackMany years ago, in England, there were temperance bars, which served sarsaparilla, among other things. I actually went ion the last temperance bar in Sheffield - Jack's Temperance Bar - Just before I closed, and I think it's the only time I've tasted sarsaparilla. Root beer is commonly available where I live, but it's far too sweet for me. Ginger beer, on the other hand is one of the few soft drinks I ever buy. I drank a lot of it at the weekend, though it was distinctly unn-soft by the time I'd finished adding 2 types of rum (and lime)
Glad to hear your new Lamb is fully approved mate
