All Sheffield firms made a lot of use of outworkers at one time John, and even contracted out work to other firms, so blades could easily get mixed up, or more likely, old superfluous parts would be put together by a cutler to make a few extra quidJack how did that come about?
It looks just like my CJ in pattern.
My I-XL Barlow is a different shape.
I wish you could have been there too Gary, and I don't think The Maltings had changed much. We went there, specifically because it is your favourite York pub@Campbellclanman ,Jack Black
Wow, Jack and Duncan, that sounds amazing! I wish I could have been there. York is such a magical place, and my one visit there many years ago is still one of my favorites. I wish I had known Jack back then.
I'm not sure if the Maltings Pub is still the same as it was when my son took us there, but it was a great place to have a few drinks. I had my first "bangers and mash" meal there, which I almost always have when I visit our local Irish pub.
They've not been the same since JohnChip butties love em, I also like a good chip shop curry sauce and mushy peas.
Pity they dont wrap em in newspaper any more.
Fantastic to see your amazing Christopher Johnson Lamb mate, I don't think they come betterDo you remember the Tough of the Track comic strip he always had fish and chips before a race wrapped in the sports pages which often gave him a tip to help him win.
He was my inspiration when I competed in the Army though they only ever gave us a weedy salad before a race and so my best was only ever secound, now if I had been given chips.

Definitely Leon, and the older gent sat next to Duncan in the pub was born the day it broke the world steam record, which still standsBritish engineering at it's finest. The Mallard one of the best ever built. And a couple of well constructed " Butty's ".
Steam engines are fascinatingMarket regular, Owd Brian, had an interesting employment career, and worked on steam trains from being a boy, eventually driving them. I once asked him what had been his favourite job, it was working on the bins (collecting refuse)! He said it was because he worked with a great bunch of blokes
Sure enough, when one of them passed away, he left Brian his house, which has set Brian and his missus up for the rest of their lives. One of their first adventures was to go off on the Orient Express

Really cool DavidI been fortunate to have riden this twice. It's quite an experience.
Looks like a great visit for both of you! It's been five years since I last saw my pal Duncan, and so I have been looking forward to his visit immensely. His wife, Sue, was staying with her mom, up in the North West, so it was a Boys Only trip to York, and our 2 days there absolutely flew byEvery street corner, and building, in York, is rich with history, so we spent a lot of time just walking around, but also fitted in 3 great pubs, a couple of chip butties, an interesting curry, and looked round a few antique shops, and the National Railway Museum - we even met the Director of the museum, having a pint with her dad, in
Peregrin 's favourite York pub
I didn't take too many pics, but Duncan took more
Here's a few of mine, going up to lunchtime on Thursday
