Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thank you Ken. πŸ™‚ Congrats on getting yours too, it's beautiful! πŸ‘

Thanks Steve! πŸ™‚

Thanks Jack, it sure is! :)

Thank you my friend! πŸ™‚

Thanks Bob. You're absolutely right about that! :)

Thank you my friend, I'm really loving it! :)

I hope I didn't miss anyone! It's been a very busy few days but #7 has not left my side since I opened it up. Every fall we pick up a pecan pie from Cracker Barrel, last night I discovered #7 has an uncanny likeness to it. πŸ™‚ Unfortunately, they mislabeled the package and we received chocolate chip pecan pie, which was just awful. We'll have to make the 2 hour round trip back there soon to get a good one.

... and we're back to bananas! There's a dirty secret regarding bananas - Hey! Just cool it right now! Not THAT kind of dirty secret! Ahem... which is that the bananas that you find in the grocery store are not the most delicious banana cultivar nor the most nutritious banana cultivar - in fact, they are the banana cultivar that best withstands the rigors of international travel. Kinda bland? Yes. Kinda nutrient deprived? Also yes. Capable of being loaded into shipping containers and sailed around the world without dissolving into a puddle of banana muck? Yes and yes.

The bananas that grow in my yard are small, delicious, and will go bad on you if you turn your back on them for a moment - but did I mention they are delicious? I'd go so far as to say that if you've only ever had store-bought bananas, you've no idea what you're missing!!

There's another dirty banana secret - settle down, it's still not that kind of dirty... which is that given the fragility of monoculture crops, of which bananas most definitely are, if a pathogen or insect is ever able to defeat the plant's genetic resistance and the farmer's pesticides - there's nothing stopping it from wiping out the entire global supply of bananas in no time flat. Since the bananas you find in the store are all genetically the same, they'll all be susceptible. However, it's likely mine wouldn't be impacted given their generic diversity from the farmed strains.

Did you know that the majority of the world's starch comes from the banana rhizome (think: root)? A shortage could potentially have greater consequences than no fresh bananas on store shelves! Dangerous business monocultures are!

The more you know (about bananas)! 🍌
Interesting banana facts Will, and a superb pic of your latest Lamb  I once had some bananas in Lebanon, which were only about a third of the size of a 'regular' banana. I remember them being delicious :)
The modern Banana is actually quite unhealthy for you. Controversial i know, but they are now so genetically modified they are a hybrid of the original genus. Also as you state with monoculture planting and cropping and modern day transport to have them available 12 months of the year is ludicrous, and to then be consuming them for 12 months of the year is not good for you. Any complaints see management. .

An honest-looking Lambsfoot Leon :)
Gents, the C.D.B.s rock, but so do the Albers. I'm perusing the forum with Roper in pocket.

Thanks kindly Jack.

I am learning that parenting today, is beyond my comprehension! I am the designated lap and entertainment specialist...nothing beyond that!

Interesting photo of your HHB.😎 I do hope your day continues to bring lightness to your heart.

One small aspect of the devastation the South received. Some of the trees removed from my stepdaughter's yard that had been blown over.

I'd say these, when mature, are about a third the size of the ones commonly found in stores.

Interesting correlation: my GF is half Lebanese, but she's a good third taller than most of the people in South Florida, most of whom are quite diminutive, but feisty, like Chihuahuas. πŸ˜‚ May even be the same mechanisms at work... πŸ€” Small bananas, small people, small dogs... I'll figure it all out someday, if I'm meant to!

Until then; thank you for the kind words, my friend!

Thank you Jon and Jack for your kind words about Roper. Bob, the cleanup and piles of debris following these megastorms are possibly even more debilitating to the populace than the storms themselves. Here in SW Florida we have miles and miles of residential areas with debris piled up to the streets, stinking and breeding rats and bugs. Three landfalls this calendar year have just over-loaded the system.

Nice to see Rose Beast again :)
Thanks Jack !

Thanks pal, I took care of a few random tasks, including polishing several pairs of boots, and was hoping to tick off a few more jobs, but my phone has been pinging all day! Then a mate of mine let me know he was in town, so I went in, and had lunch, and a pint, with him :) We had a roast, but it was a bit overpriced and underwhelming, in fact we both left hungry  Hope you've had a good one

Well, ever since I got the GL-24, I've become kind of a bad Guardian, since I haven't posted much (life has been busy). But I've had this in my pocket (mostly with a second knife, occasionally by itself) every day except when I was forced to be knifeless (and then I pocketed it in the evening).

I need to get back to posting here more, but it's mostly gonna be this knife, because it's pretty near to perfect for me. I will become ever more tedious on the subject of how great this knife is. As Dogberry says, "But truly, for mine own part, if I were as tedious as a king, I could find it in my heart to bestow it all of your worship."

You've been warned.

Hey, here's a picture of a great knife!

And on the subject of banana varietals, prior to the 1960s the most common commercial cultivar was the Gros Michel, which had a thick skin and traveled well. But certain diseases mostly wiped it out from commercial production, and Cavendish became the most common commercial cultivar. The reason that artificial banana flavor "doesn't really taste like bananas" is because it tastes like Gros Michel, and most people these days associate banana flavor with Cavendish.
