I received this yesterday, hot off the Lulu press, the newly published companion volume to Geoff Tweedale's classic reference work on the Sheffield cutlery manufacturers. Geoff has been working on this work on the Sheffield tool manufacturers for a few years now, and it is equally well-researched - more than 600 pages and thousands of illustrations and photographs. I'm looking forward to reading it, and am sure it'll be an invaluable reference work

Let me know how the book treats you, Jack. Always looking for new references. Also, I don’t ever remember this little creature being mentioned. Funny thing must have been before my time.I hope that a few of you remember Arthur, the Right Lambsfoot Greg @WhittlinAway whittled for me a while back...

He sits on my desk, but I have been thinking about sending him on a journey in the style of Earl and Pearl. He's very dear to me, so I would only want him to go to stay with Guardians of Good-standing who've been on The Porch awhile. What do you think folks, anyone up for this, maybe have a prize for the post that gets the most likes?

Me too mateDo you know, I'd forgotten about the Yorkshire Rose, isn't that shocking, my memory isn't worth tuppence these days, but I'm usually OK with knife stuff?
I've been seeing a fair bit of Bolton this past few days courtesy of some old Fred Dibnah videos!I shared one with Frank @knarfeng, and he was saying he works with a bloke from round your way!
(I'll just stick a link in for our friends :thumbbsup
Very interesting photos my friend, and you are right about those eggs!![]()

Kevin, it has been a very mild winter, there have been reports that a Grizzley or two have been spotted wandering around. They should be sleeping!
You have captured another fine photo very nice.![]()
Yeah well I guess it's been awhile since I was hitting on all cylinders too. Shoulder surgery coming up here in a few days.
So Trevor Ablett - a custom builder?
I know the feeling my friend, good luck with your surgery
Trevor Ablett was for many years just a jobbing cutler, but then he started adding his name to his knives. The blades came from Wright's, and didn't sell for much more than their knives. His signature was brass bolsters, often extended. Sadly, he died of cancer a couple of years ago, but he worked almost to the end. This poignant photo was taken on his last day at work, in the workshop he shared with Bowie Knife Maker Reg Wilson.

David, we had a major snowstorm in September and that was it. Since then there has been very little snow and a lot of the day temps in Calgary have reached +10CThat's a stunning shot there Dave! It's just been a normal winter here (though our Lake District National Park has been remarkably snow free) but didn't you have early snows?
Thank you David. I very much enjoyed the links to Trevor Ablett. Wonderful vids of him at work.Good luck with the surgery
Purtty knife!A very interesting discovery indeed! I have seen many Winchester Lambsfoot knives with the checkerboard covers on the big auction site. They are usual red or blue with white checkered covers. I assumed they were synthetic possibly even celluloid. I always assumed they were contracted from some English manufacturers. Looking at the tang stamps they do look suspicious. Hopefully someone here can come up with the true story on this knife.
Speaking of contract knives, I’m giving this one some pocket time today.

Jack Black ... sorry I'm rather late to the party, kind of lost track of this thread lately and just tried to do some catch up. The 2019 Guardians sample looks amazing, is there still a way to get on your email list for more details?
Just remind him, greener pastures usually indicates more manure fertilizing the grassPoor kid, if he likes the job, then great! I think if you like who you are working for and enjoy your job then be wary of greener pastures.
Wow that is beautifulI carry a Lambsfoot...

Because there are no clouds in my coffee
How 'bout you?
Kids, such as myself, sometimes have to learn the hard way that greener pastures sometimes means a greater chance of one day stepping in a cow pie. Or would it be a Lamb pie?Just remind him, greener pastures usually indicates more manure fertilizing the grass

I've read a couple of his books; still got one actually. A very interesting read about our industrial heritage. He was apparently a really decent chap to boot.

I still need to take the time to work through this thread, but I have much the same question. I didn't know that there was such a thing as a Guardians knife, and would love to get in on the action. I'm glad the subject came up in the forum knife thread, because now I know to look here and start participating on this thread.![]()
Good Morning Guardians! A couple weeks back I was complaining about a really sore knee. Forgive me but I don't remember who recommended the book Somatics, then again it might have been
peanutsxx
The library brought it in for me. I will admit reading and following through with this sort of thing is like pulling a cat through a picket fence.
I will give it a go, the real motivation is the pain I'm dealing with and just maybe I will get some relief.

Hope the book does you well, mate. Time is the enemy of all sentient beings, but we all have our ways of putting it off or dealing with it. Except certain sea creatures if my memory serves me right. Those lads can be pretty stubborn.Good Morning Guardians! A couple weeks back I was complaining about a really sore knee. That's a gorgeous knife!
Here is my only lambsfoot, a nice 32 Dumas Aîné that I found at a flea market a few years ago. An awesome knife for many tasks - too short for eating though, I rather use my Douk-Douk for that
