Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Thanks for reposting that link, Jack! I remember enjoying that when you originally posted it, but I found it even more enjoyable to go back and look at your detailed photos now that I’ve been there in person.

Sounds like fun!

It’s been similar here in Minnesota, Dave. We had a few snow storms in November and December (not counting a dusting we got in October), but it’s just about all melted after several “warm” January days in the upper 30s/low 40s (F). It is a bit cool this morning (5°F, 15°F high for the day), but overall things have been pretty mild… disappointingly so for our first full winter here, if you ask me. I wanted the real-deal experience, full immersion! :D
Winter has just started. Just you wait!

Good day to all you Guardians! My Ashley’s Choice is sharing the pocket today! :D

I don't think I'll ever tire of seeing the ACs :)

Full immersion nooo! Barrett I used to live on the Lake of the woods Ontario 70 miles from International Falls Minnesota. I have seen -40F a fair few times
, the ice on the lake freezes 4 ft thick. :p

Okay all you Guardians. What, if any, is the advantage of a Lambsfoot Blade over a Sheepsfoot Blade?

The thread index would probably be a good place to look to see a range of opinions Ed, there's a link in post 1 - Ergonomics is probably the best section to look in

First thing that comes to mind is that it's easier to pierce things, yet it's stronger than a wharncliffe blade. Plus it looks so much better!
Pretty much this. I feel the narrower tip gives more control on pull cuts, and can reach into tighter spaces. It's not like you can't do the same sort of cutting with a sheepfoot, but the Lambsfoot's taper is more elegant.

I mean, just lookat it! :)

I think PART of the reason it gives better control, is that it's easier to see the precise point of cutting because of the difference in the taper of the point between a Lambsfoot and a Sheepsfoot. I also find it easier to precisely control the amount of pressure exerted on the tip of the blade with this type of cut

Here is my only lambsfoot, a nice 32 Dumas Aîné
Not a lamb. But that is one gorgeous piece of cutlery.

Morning Dwight, how you doing buddy?
I'm okay Jack. Won't be any cutting going on until the 17th. :D

Thanks John, the wee anvil sits on my desk, together with Arthur, and the leather Lambsfoot Dylan made me (together with, currently, an old metal whistle, an old pipe tobacco tin, my AC in its slip, my rosewood Big 'Un, my reading glasses, a camera, some herbal cough sweets, a small pink cadillac lighter, and a cup of tea! :D)
That's my kind of desk. o_O

I don't ever tire of seeing the Ac's either. Rich creamy curves of canyons...

...
Let's have some Lambsfoot content you lolly-gaggers! :p
I'm a Guardian who takes seriously the discipline/profane tongue-lashings of our Sergeant Major!:(
If it's lambsfoot content Jack wants, then that's what he'll have!!:thumbsup::rolleyes: Here are some of the "firstfruits" of my lambsfoot harvest as I examined my unread pages in this thread.

Here's the first ebony lambsfoot I encountered as I made my way through the 7 pages I'd fallen behind. Thanks, FBC!:thumbsup::cool:

Old pic from more sunny days.

Here's the first (and only possible) 2019 ironwood Guardians knife I ran across as I caught up. Irresistible Ironwood, Jack!:cool::thumbsup:
I carry a Lambsfoot...

Because there are no clouds in my coffee ;)
How 'bout you?

Here's my first glimpse of a stag lambsfoot in this session. Intriguing pic, to say the least, Vince, but what makes that DC lawyer so honest??:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Here's the first ironwood large lambsfoot I encountered (and also one of a kind??). Immaculate ironwood mod, Ron, and in answer to your (probably rhetorical) question, you are certainly blameless!!:thumbsup:;)

Do you blame me? :D

Here's the first 2018 Guardians Ebony Lambsfoot that showed up for me today. Great pics, Mike; the Founders Dirty Bastard is a tasty beverage, and ebony and garlic look surprisingly fantastic together! :D:cool::thumbsup:
I know my attendance has been spotty, but so far, my most carried knife in 2019 is my 2018 Guardians Lambsfoot.

Here's the first rosewood lambsfoot I noticed in the pages I perused today. Thanks for posting that "all-business" version, Jack!:thumbsup::cool: Yes, it would be great to see Greg around more often.:thumbsup: Thanks for the Cracker Jack compliment. :)
...
I think the the thread index Greg @WhittlinAway set up is a great asset, I do hope we're going to see a little more of him in 2019 :) I rarely take pile-side shots, and should try and correct that. Cracking pic of Cracker Jack GT

Here's the first horn lambsfoot I saw in this thread today. Cool pic, @M.Hatch!:cool::thumbsup:
View attachment 1050581 Got this one with me today.

I posted it today John :) I hope it fares better than the knife I sent to another member as an Xmas gift, it went right to his door, before coming back to me, marked "Deceased 1979"!! o_O
...
May I assume that member is feeling better now than he did 40 years ago? ;):D:D

Speedy recovery and hope the surgery goes smoothly!
Thanks, @peanutsxx! :) Apparently the surgery had some surprises, but so far so good!:thumbsup:

Dwight, I'm sure there will be many thoughts and prayers heading your way may peace and a quick recovery be with you.:)
Well-said, Dave! :thumbsup::thumbsup::cool:

...Cracker Jack is looking hale.
Thanks, Dwight. :) Great to have him back in my pocket!:thumbsup:

A very interesting discovery indeed! I have seen many Winchester Lambsfoot knives with the checkerboard covers on the big auction site. They are usual red or blue with white checkered covers. I assumed they were synthetic possibly even celluloid. I always assumed they were contracted from some English manufacturers. Looking at the tang stamps they do look suspicious. Hopefully someone here can come up with the true story on this knife....
Jack's lengthy post and Ron's quoted here are both fascinating!:thumbsup::thumbsup: I'd never heard of Winchester lambsfoots before.

I hope that a few of you remember Arthur, the Right Lambsfoot Greg @WhittlinAway whittled for me a while back...

He sits on my desk, but I have been thinking about sending him on a journey in the style of Earl and Pearl. He's very dear to me, so I would only want him to go to stay with Guardians of Good-standing who've been on The Porch awhile. What do you think folks, anyone up for this, maybe have a prize for the post that gets the most likes?
Cool  Well if a few folks are interested, perhaps I could do a draw to see where Arthur goes first :)
Sounds very interesting to me, Jack.:cool::thumbsup: Might be even more intriguing to attach a set of instructions to Arthur and cast him into the sea! What an adventure THAT could be!:D

Just remind him, greener pastures usually indicates more manure fertilizing the grass
:D:thumbsup::thumbsup:

...
I will give it a go, the real motivation is the pain I'm dealing with and just maybe I will get some relief.

Dave, I hope you can find something to give you some relief from the pain in your knee.
That's an awesome photo of the book with your AC!!:cool::cool:
OM. OM. OM. can be replaced by LAMB. LAMB. LAMB. for your meditative pleasure.

It would be fun to see pictures of the things people have on their desks. It could tell us a lot about a person. Seems like you like to have stuff around that brings you joy.
That WOULD be kind of fun, John, although if many people are like me (as Jack apparently is :D:thumbsup:), it could lead to massive sensory overload!

Barrett, my Dad would say you're a "glutton for punishment"!:eek::p (We're under orders to increase lambsfoot content, so I'll modify my Dad's remark to "mutton for punishment".)
