Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Still cold and wet here, but saw some light on the horizon on Saturday. A magpie collecting twigs and sticks then flying up the their favourite Gum Tree to construct their nest. So spring not far away, the animals know best, a hell of a lot better than us. So here is some content.

2025 Yorkshire Day Giveaway

As most of you Guardians know, August 1st is Yorkshire Day. It's cheaper than Christmas, more fun than a funeral, not politically controversial, and has less calories than Thanksgiving. Yorkshire has given the world cinema, steam trains, stainless steel, football, Yorkshire pudding, Henderson's Relish, and, of course, the Lambsfoot knife. While Yorkshire may not be able to lay sole claim to the legendary chip butty, something eaten throughout the north of England, and beyond, it is immortalised in the rousing anthem of one of Sheffield's football clubs.

While not everyone is lucky enough to live in Yorkshire, Yorkshire Day is an international holiday, and can be celebrated anywhere, by for example, wearing a flat cap, singing Yorkshire's traditional anthem (or 'The Greasy Chip Butty Song'), having a pint of ale or two (or a cup of Yorkshire tea), or eating a chip butty. And of course, carrying a Lambsfoot ;) As you can see (below), no expense is spared in celebrating Yorkshire Day! 🤣

I'm not sure how many years I've been doing an annual Yorkshire Day giveaway, but it's been running the same way for a good few now, focussing on the Lambsfoot and the chip butty. I know many of you are already familiar with the chip butty, Heck, some of you even like them! :D They're not too complicated to make, so I hope that you'll enjoy one with me this Yorkshire Day :)

The Chip Butty Challenge involves making your chip butty, and posting a photo of it here with your Lambsfoot (both in the same photo). If it's your first chip butty, I hope you enjoy it 😋 Dandelion & Burdock is optional ;) (If you want to add ketchup, or use white sliced bread, rather than a breadcake or roll, that's fine, but I do expect it to look something like a chip butty, not a taco, or a burger with a few french fries on top ;)).

Please indicate that you want to enter the giveaway, and posts showing extra Yorkshireness, effort, or imagination, will get a second entry. The prize this year is a Lambsfoot knife from my collection, which I've never carried.

When I used to visit A. Wright & Son, in Sheffield, regularly, I often used to pick up any good-looking Lambsfoot examples I'd see lying around. This isn't one of their standard patterns, but comes with some nice toffee-coloured horn, a new, crisp, A. Wright tang-stamp, and a file-worked back spring.

The giveaway is open to all Guardians, and as always I am very much looking forward to reading your posts, and seeing your photos. Giveaway starts 12.01am Yorkshire Day, and runs until midnight.

Thanks for another great year of Lambsfootery, and good luck everyone

Jack

I'm In.
Great timing I've been home past couple of days with a cold.
Kristy and the eldest had to go to the post office to get a parcel, that was attempted delivery on Thursday 😳 still waiting for the knock
Well anyway on the way home kristy bought me chips from 1 of the good old chippys
So I had an early dinner. A modern butty
Chips, bbq sauce and wrap!
DELICIOUS!

Great enthusiasm, and a tasty tea there Mitch, but Yorkshire Day is on Friday :) Just giving everyone a heads-up, so that they can make preparations ;)

I share your frustration mate, I ordered an expensive phone last week, and it arrived with a badly scratched screen! Cost me £10 to send it back, and I passed on a trip out with Matt and his kids, as I had to wait in for the replacement today. Supposed to arrive by 1pm, and it's nearly 12.30pm now

I did get ahead but that’s normal Friday is Saturday after all🤣🤣
Yeah most deliveres here are by the cheapest sub contractors that don't know how to knock.
If I couldn't see out our front windows we'd never get deliveres 🙄
