That is one thing that we do have a surplus of, " Idiots ". Enjoy your Sunday.Sadly that won't change the fact that a lot of the bush fires here in Australia are deliberately lit by idiots.
Barret my friend, there is of course always room for that Flat White, in fact, I am just about to go down the road to obtain my fix after this postThanks, Jack. The chip butty was definitely good (though you can’t tell from the pic, I made sure I had plenty of butter in there — it really does make all the difference).
I think you might be right about that.
I’ve definitely used my fair share of Tony Chachere’s in my life, probably have some in the pantry right now. Interesting to hear they’re similar. Yes, you can get Tony C’s just about anywhere here, and I doubt there are many places to buy the chip spice in the US (probably just those specialty online shops that carry British grocery items at a high markup), but I’ll have to take a look around.
Great pic, Duncan.I hope you’re at least allowed flat whites on your diet!
I should certainly be adhering to a better diet myself, but instead…
Julie and I drove up to Duluth, MN today to spend the weekend with some friends. My mom came up to stay at our place with the kids, and I think this is our first kid-free trip together in I don’t know how long.
On the drive up, we had a little time to kill (our friends were driving up separately from the Twin Cities and got a later start than we did), so we made a slight detour and stopped at Gordy’s Hi-Hat, an old school drive-in/diner type of place in Cloquet, MN. I had seen this place recommended somewhere before, and this is our first trip “up north” since we lived in Minnesota, so it was great to be able to try it out. It did not disappoint. Julie and I shared a fish sandwich (piled high with four pieces of perfectly fried fish), as well as some onion rings and fried cheese curds — both excellent (and the logical follow up to a chip butty for brunch.)

We have some outstanding accommodations for the weekend.

We don’t have the whole place, mind you — we aren’t that fancy. We’re renting a nice space on the third floor of this 1909 home.

Here are a couple panoramic pics from the balcony on the back side of the house. On the right side of this first pic, we should (hopefully) have a nice view of Lake Superior, but it’s currently so hazy from the wildfires in Canada that you can only just make out the lake in person, and not at all in photos.

Looking west you could really see the haze. It’s suppose to clear up as the weekend goes on, so I’m keeping my finger crossed.

Honestly, I would love to stake them to the ground in an area about to be engulfed by fire - that type of person doesn't need to share oxygen with us, hard to understand, all the stunning nature and beautiful animals big and small suffer unimaginativelySadly that won't change the fact that a lot of the bush fires here in Australia are deliberately lit by idiots.
There is some beautiful buildings and architecture in the land of the Long White Cloud also. I was so impressed by many of your old buildings when i was there many moons ago.Oh man... England is so Rich of history and stunning old OLD architecture
Mate are you missing all the rain and floods ????
That is a fine looking Sanga.Better late than never, as it's said.
I couldn't let that craving go to waste, so my daughter and I made dinner a bit ago and with a newly stocked larder, it was a good opportunity to show my daughter something.... Different.
I sliced some Yukon Golds up into discs, fried them until they were golden brown, tossed with Henderson's, salt, pepper, garlic and a pinch of paprika. Served it on toasted white bread and had brown sauce on the side for dipping. It was fantastic and went great with a locally made lager. My daughter was a bit uninspired, unfortunately. Oh well, I can't win all the time.
We will be following this up shortly with some blackberry cobbler we made as well from some fresh-picked berries.

No Leon had lots of rain since Thursday.Mate are you missing all the rain and floods ????
Hope you don't get any damage. No Leon had lots of rain since Thursday.
Our courtyard gets flooded and runs down the south side, as the houses behind us sit higher, happens to all the villas as alongside us.
It could be worse.
Here's a picture from my front verandah. On the left the grass area is a fully covered storm water drain, you can see 1 of the grated vents a lot of the run off should go in there.. I looked out Friday afternoon the drain in the road was completely blocked . Covering half the road up on the grass and flowing down the neighbours driveway into his garage. He had no idea till I told him , we slowed it down enough by diverting it for the water to drain, any longer would have flooded the laundry and house.
Plumbers were out will be back this week bigger job
