Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

A lady from Betty's Tea Shop was handing out small pieces of their their famous Fat Rascals, which I must admit, do taste good. A lot of white roses were also being handed out, to the ladies.

In the near distance, the civic procession could now be seen approaching, and the road was cleared.

The parade was led by Ilkley's Town Crier.

Followed by part of the Bradford contingent.

And a whole bunch of Lords Mayors and other big-wigs. You might recognise a few of them from last year (no sign of our gal, sadly, Jer! 💔).

The Great and The Good passed along, beaming nicely, and headed off to church, but there was some confusion about timetabling, since the Yorkshire Proclamation, (in many ways a bit daft, but in some ways the main event of Yorkshire Day), was due to be read, by the Town Crier, outside the station. Even the Town Crier didn't know what was going to happen, so for a while, folks milled around outside the station.

Eventually, it was decided, without too much delay, that the Proclamation would be read without the civic dignitaries.

IMG_9779.JPG

Unfortunately, the entire crowd had their view obscured by this selfish sod, who isn't actually even filming, and doesn't even work for a proper TV company 😠

IMG_9793.JPG

Hence the need to crop my photos so much :(

IMG_9790.JPG

"Get out of the way you bloody urchin!"

IMG_9797.JPG

The reading of the Proclamation was followed by a rousing rendition of the Yorkshire Anthem. A feller was handing out song sheets, but since most Yorkshire folk have been singing the song since childhood, these were generally spurned.

IMG_9806.JPG

However, some twerp had gone and changed the last verse, which in many ways is the whole purpose of the song, replacing it with something entirely meaningless 😠 Inevitably, there was considerable confusion, and a certain amount of muttering

I was ready for a chip butty now, and while Ilkley considers itself a bit too posh for fish and chip shops, on previous visits, I had managed to find one, down near the river, less than a mile away.

I passed the church, where I assumed the dignitaries were, and decided to take a few pics, as I was passing.

However, as I came back round the church, I saw that the dignitaries had re-appeared, and were being bossed about considerably by an impatient photographer (which was rather amusing :D).

He looks like he's doing a little dance here! :D

I thought I'd hang about for when he managed to get everyone lined-up ;)

Many were in no hurry!

And at that moment, it started to rain, and I lost interest in the fancy folks, and instead, headed to the pub, where there were no chip butties, but very nice pies!

Congratulations, Pat!
Thanks for hosting the party, Jack!
Thanks for joining in Rachel :)
I don't remember what I was going to say about him.
Probably something unkind.
I wish I'd taken my sjambok Jer! I had the same thing at Chapeltown Carnival last year, between his huge video camera, and equally intruding backpack, it was almost impossible to get a shot

Great pictures Jack. I wondered too if we’d see a picture of the glaring lady. Those dignitaries….I gotta say it…dignitaries=lollygaggers.

And the winner is:
