Well, after three or four crazy busy months, during our last week before vacation, our dog Lacey had a bad medication reaction. This involved four vet visits (including two where we were afraid we'd have to put her down). Once they figured it out she recovered quite rapidly, but that touch and go week was pretty terrible. If we didn't already need a vacation before that week (and we did!) we sure did after it.

We spent one night in Sonoma, 12 days (leaving this morning) in Dillon Beach, and now we'll spend a couple of nights in Winters before heading back to real life.

We've had some long beach hikes, hikes inland a bit through valley oaks, hikes through redwoods, hanging out at wineries (maybe a couple more wineries in the next two days, too). It's been good. We didn't really get vacation in 2024, and I don't think we've ever done two weeks in a row.

It's been good.

Great to hear your dog is okay. We had to put ours down about a month ago. She was a great old girl. Still hurts.

Great to hear your dog is okay. We had to put ours down about a month ago. She was a great old girl. Still hurts.

I am so sorry to hear this. Hope you and your family can grieve well, and maybe get a new pup (never a replacement, though).

Thanks, Bob! My battery is at least back up to 60% or so, which is a lot higher than it's been in a while. If I could just get 2 or 3 more weeks of vacation, I'd be in good shape!

Jack Black Excuse my absence mate, but just had so much on, and will spend some time today catching up on the Guardians thread. It is 7.30 Saturday morning here and bleak and miserable. Blew a gale during the night but no damage done. Just had a fry up for brekkie, burgers, eggs and onions. . Have a good weekend everyone. .

I realized only too late that we didn’t have enough flour at my mother-in-law’s place to make biscuits! And not even a cheater tube of frozen bisquik pucks in the freezer.

Thanks pal, I was about 25 then! Scafell Pike gets the attention, but I always tell people they'd be better climbing one the more interesting and quieter slightly lower peaks nearby I used to love to climb the hills and mountains of England, Wales, and Scotland, but they're a bit of a struggle for me now!

echoscout That is super cool. Jack, I have hiked to the top of Mt. Snowden! Amazing hike with my daughters on a trip to Wales when they were wee girls. We stayed in an incredible rental cottage not too far from Llanberis that the tots called “the gnome house.”

Hope you have a great summit. I've been to the high point of twenty-five states if I remember correctly.

Thanks for all the well wishes! If everything goes according to plan, I will be snapping a few pics from 12,662 feet tomorrow in the mid-day. Probably won’t be able to report in until later on though.

We did make a quick stop at the trailhead on our drive just to check things out before going on to our motel. I’m very excited.
