Hard not to share chips when they're on the table!
the Buccaneer Bar
For those of you old enough to remember the Buccaneer Bar, in Sheffield. You may, as I do, look back fondly on what was at first glance, a pretty dismal place.
For those of you that frequented it during the daylight hours the interior could only be described in architectural terms as neo-mortuary. The floor was carpeted, well, there was carpet somewhere. What was left of it served only as an underlay for the fossilised mixture of beer, *** ends and vomit that formed the non slip surface on which in the course of an evening, one became glued to.
The walls and ceilings were painted black with few decorative features except a couple of tables with ships compass motif and a dead snake skin nailed to an overhead beam. Well I hope it was just the skin it was hard to tell from the aromas permeating from it.. Oh and a Parrot!!! Yes, a real one (I think).
The general background aroma can only be described as essence of *** ash, stale beer, vomit & other bodily fluids, with faint undertones of Marijuana & patchouli oil.
The glasses were made of plastic, which was a good idea as it was impossible to find anywhere to put it when empty, except drop it on the floor. Except of course on Friday's and Saturday nights when you guarded it with your life. By about 9.00pm the bar staff had run out of glasses so it was essential to keep the one you had or scout around on the floor for a discarded one. With the latter option it was generally refilled without washing it first.
Terrible they can't add the finishing touches Bob, because otherwise that looks like a very nice knife. I like the blade profile, and the grinder's notchA wee little Rogers buffalo horn came yesterday. Fit and finish is fine. Yet, it should have been listed as a butter knife, with uneven grinds.

I had to get a winter jacket back out of my wardrobe this morning, but it has warmed out, with promises of 70 by teatimeWe have a couple days around 70, then back into the 80s.

So, not a bad day for slinging mulch. We'll see where they put me.
I can tolerate a dull blade with a proper build, so all is good.Terrible they can't add the finishing touches Bob, because otherwise that looks like a very nice knife. I like the blade profile, and the grinder's notch![]()

Looks like a cool place mate
My dad used to work with a load of guys much younger than he was, and one of them once recommended a pub that had opened in Sheffield, 'The Buccaneer'. It was below street level, so you could see into it from outside. My parents decided to go there for their annual night out. Being a pretty straight couple in their 40's, they were horrified to find it was actually a pretty rough heavy metal/bikers bar!

Jack, I have been to that wonderful shop! Years ago I purchased a London umbrella with a beautiful curved maple handle. Damn impractical to carry all the way home to hang around the house in Texas but it sure looks nice. Thanks buddy, sounds classyI used to stay regularly near this old shop in London

I was only about 11 when the Bucanneer closed Mitch, but I would definitely have gone there otherwise. Sheffield had quite a lot of biker bars in the 1970's, and I used to go in them all. There was sometimes some bother, but no more than there was anywhere else back then, when there was little else to do, after the pubs closed at 10.30pm, other than have a bag of chips, a punch-up, or both! What a cool shop.
The Bucaneer great name for a pub.
Bikies can look scary but tend to leave you alone.
I'm afraid I can't see your imgur pic right now Pat, but hopefully laterI noticed some dried food on the blades from last time I carried it.I try not to put them away dirty like that but I must have been having a moment, like my dad used to say. I got it cleaned up and oiled with no pitting that I could tell so I'm going to call it a win. Have a great day folks!

You're making me thirsty!Visited the new southern Dallas location of my friend Feargal’s lovely Irish pub yesterday. The pints were creamy and delicious. I had Gator Lamb with me.View attachment 3189059

It is the thing I care about least Bob, and would rather have an unsharpened blade, rather than one that's been messed up. However, I do think cutlers should sell knives that will cut out of the boxI can tolerate a dull blade with a proper build, so all is good.
There is a paper included, touting their 300 year history. I hope they choose to live to it.
A lot of old meat products have waned in popularity, but can still be found here. I've not had potted meat for years, but growing up, there was a local factory where a lot of women worked. Hartley's Potted Beef wasn't cheap compared to a lot of similar products, but it made a great sandwichI gotta fess up mucky fat and potted meat sounds ok to me. Potted meat puts me in mind of the ill fated Franklin Expedition. Lately I’ve been imagining Tool Man managing a Waffle House. Poke Salad Harry has the I wanna be friends with this big beef dripping eater look. Funny how opposites attract. Someone fondling Tool Man’s jacket is the kicker to another fine day at the Market. Thanks Jack.
Here is my unnamed lambsfoot.
