Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Losing 10% off your waist in a couple of months seems cause for celebration, Jack - well done!!:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Nice story about the well-equipped bookshop couple. :)
Yes, we haven't see @mrknife here for awhile, but he's a "renaissance man" when it comes to hobbies! ;):thumbsup:

Very nice, Dave; congrats!:cool::cool::thumbsup: When I first saw your post, my initial reaction was, "Where did Dave get a tortoise shell lambsfoot?" I've enjoyed the speculations about images hidden in the figuring of the wood of your ironwood lambsfoot. ;) FWIW, I see a witch riding the shoulders of a bear standing on his hind legs. :D

Thanks GT, I got weighed at the hospital last week, and had lost 23lbs :)

I suggest you never do any Rorschach tests my friend, your girls might not see you for a while! :p

Your back-up ironwood is a real looker, Jack!:cool::thumbsup: Thanks for the pin idea. :) As to where I've been, I think I'm partly stupefied by the pace of the thread, and I'm also finding winter unusually hard to deal with this year. I often sit on the couch after supper, huddled motionless under a blanket, with a dog on either side of me. But most evenings are apparently 3-dog nights, so I'm under-equipped.

...

Man Jack is my lambsfoot of record this week:

Thanks again my friend, sorry to hear you're struggling with winter, and hope sunnier climes are not too far away for you :) You need to sit on your couch, huddled under a blanket, with the cannine book-ends, tapping away on a lap-top! :D ;)

Good to see Man Jack, as always

Looks real good Wayne :)

It's going to snow here, butright now it's just looking like someone spilled salt.

Great photos, Jack, glad you had a nice hike and were able to enjoy a spot of tea and maybe something to eat.

Nice photo, it's trying to snow here...I can see green grass coming up after a few days of warmer weather

Hope you don't have to wait to long, good picture.

Looks great, I think both sides are terrific, but the pile side reminds me of a quilt.

That does look like spilled salt Preston :D Timely taken photo my friend, hope you didn't get too much of it. Despite the storm warning we had, looking out of the window this morning, it actually looks like a pretty nice day  Thank you, I do enjoy getting out when I can, and as I get older, stopping for lunch has become a ritual. I didn't have tea yesterday, I recently discovered this brand of miso soup, and really like it, it's so tasty! :D I have a lot of small stoves, but the small titanium twig stove I have weighs almost nothing :)

One of my all time favs for sure! I've been there also, although that was when Franco was still in power.
Here's my last musical contribution on Texas Independence day - from the great Bob Wills. This is my favorite version of this Texas Swing classic. Bob (who had suffered a stroke) was transported to the recording session in a wheel chair so he could take part in the two day session. The album (entitled "For The Last Time") was originally meant to be the last recording in which he was to take part - a tribute to his illustrious career and talent. Ironically, after recording this song on the 1st day, he suffered another stroke during the night which ended his life.

You have done Texas proud OG

Thanks! A three-beer-wait.

That's not a bad wait Vince! :D

Thanks fellas.
@mitch4ging I do think you got my pile side on your knife! ;):D

Have a great weekend y'all!

Smashing pair of pics Kevin  Though I think that's your '18 in the lower pic isn't it?

Jack Black Jack Black Thank you. I’m strictly chuffed to bits about being old school. Wonderful pics of your hike. Looks like fun.

Thanks buddy :D

Fantastic porter.

Cheers to Saturdays

That looks very tasty Taylor :)

Thanks Gary! I think it’s amazing that out of 70 knives (purely an estimated total) they all have incredible character. Some are bolder and some more subtle, but they all have their individual qualities. This helps to make them special to each who are fortunate to have them, and to all of us when we get to admire the photos when our fellow Guardians post them! :)

Nicely said Ron :) Wright's produced exactly 70 knives, 50 plus 2, as well as my sample knife, if they can manage to fix it up

Super pic of your Big 'Un Dwight

can hardly wait for round 2 to start showing up!
once mine arrives, I'll have to learn how to take pictures......
until then, this will be stuck in my head. :(

Hope it gets to you soon Erik :)

Beautiful!! :) Great stress reliever! Leave the cell phone off or on silent?

Thanks Dennis, I leave the phone on silent in my pack, sometimes leave it at home altogether

Nice shot Alan

Life is hard here on the porch.

:D

Hot Chocolate, three fingers, straight up!:D

:)

Don't forget Tennessee, fellers, I'm sipping on some George Dickel 9 yo single barrel tonight. MMMMMmmmmmmmmm . . . .

Looking surprisingly dark on that pic Dennis :) There's a Sheffield cutler, John Mitchell, recorded in Sheffield in 1664

Hot tea*, waiting for what's probably the last cold front of the season to come in the next day or so.

*In Texas, iced tea = "tea", so if you want it hot, you call it "hot tea".

I haven't carried my Li'l Sambar since the ironwood got here, so I think I'll put it in my pocket tomorrow.

Love the distinction Rachel :) Your Li'l Sambar also has it in spades, such great pics!

Good evening Guardians!

I received this particular knife a couple of weeks ago. In hand, it feels like a champ. Nice thick handle, outstanding walk and talk. The blade was ground a bit wavy. The other day a diamond stone and strop made short work of that. It’s a bit straighter and whittles hair now.

I’m not so sure I love the cover material though..... I have some really good leather dye that has served me well in the past. Perhaps it will be a bit different the next time I post. At any rate, a great pattern!

2ujnk1i.jpg

I prefer Sambar myself, but some of our members seem to quite like the Pere David too :) That certainly looks like a nice knife :)

Morning Guardians, hope everyone is having a great weekend :) I'm hoping to do lots of catching up on the forum today, but still have some chores to do, a Lambsfoot to wrap, some shopping to fetch, and some exercise to get in. At least I don't have to work! :D Enjoy your Sunday Guardians :)

Terrific photos Kevin, are those wood chips what you used to BBQ?
Great photo, Dwight, nice contrast.

That knife sure has character, nicely photographed.

Delving into family history is always interesting. The younger members of my family don't seem to have much interest...maybe 'cause they are to busy with their with their own.

Thanks Jack, congrats on your weight loss. It's -4 F here now and only a few inches of snow...the weather guessers are calling for more today. I plan to stay inside and play with sharp things! Interesting to know about the Ti stove, I'll have to look into one, be great in the duck/goose blind for a hot meal.

Thanks Preston, I'd post a pic of the carrot I had for lunch, but it doesn't have the panache of a sausage sandwich! :D

I have a whole load of stoves, but in my increasing decrepitude, their weight is beginning to become an issue. If it's not a consideration, I can't recommend the Kelly Kettle volcano kettles enough, but Ti has gotten cheaper in the last few years. I have a Ti alcohol set-up which weighs almost nothing, but I'd rather use natural fuels if I can :) That looks like an absolute classic (great pic BTW), does it burn alcohol gel? I remember, back in the 80's, I carried a tiny emergency 'stove' in my pack for a few years, I think it might have been German army issue. It was essentially a can of alcohol gel with a small pot stand. One time, I had to use it in an near emergency, and the darn thing burned out, only slightly heating a pint of water

Well I got outta the hospital yesterday in time to continue our plans we had, went to see the Gatlin Bros last night, they absolutely delivered! Fantastic show and entertainment! Then a night at the Historic Banning Mills (we are NOT zip lining this weekend) with a massage to follow checkout. My bride is awesome! This was our view this am

Thanks Jack, for that information I’ll definitely look into it. Yes, sterno is a denatured jellied alcohol. I can remember using stoves like this one in Boy Scouts. They were miserable in function. I found this one in a fleamarket some years ago. Two dollars, probably overpaid but it’s a neat prop.
Great photos! The Sambar is a beauty! :)

Never tire of seeing this knife, the stag is spectacular.
one of my own...

Nice photo, John, I have several Bluebird houses around. Last year we had early warming. There were several pairs that started nesting but then the weather changed, the cold and snow forced them to flee. I did end up with a nesting pair of Tree Swallows.

Birds are so cool. I need to get myself a proper bird feeder. Right now they just steal food and water from my dog's bowls.

Thanks for the info Preston, very cool find :) When I was a kid, I mainly just used campfires, but they kind of raise a hue and cry many places here these days

LOL! :D I remember putting up a bird feeder a few years ago. Walked back to the house, looked out of the window, and it was on the grass. I went back outside, and realised that in the minute it had taken me to go back indoors, squirrels had already chewed the heck out of it, and ragged it off the tree!
