David, looks like a pretty cool place, but I am, befuddled it seems like it's built in the middle of nowhere?
I just finished the Wikipedia article on Tan Hill Inn Quote: "The building dates to the 17th century, We're talking old here!
Is this Jack!!!

LOL!Great post David, I was looking at that beeswax polish in Barnitt's the other week

Found this Lamb, dirt cheap. It had the look I love with the older ones. Has a few issues, but plenty of life left. The Tang is marked Hale Forge, Sheffield. Fearless Leader and resident Sheffield Cutlery Expert,Jack Black may be able to provide more details. I’ve already named it...Gus.

My great great grandfather was operating mines in Butte and Plumas counties at the time of the map being made. His son, was an attorney and later on would be a state senator. Cool historyIn a recent auction, my wife won a Santa Clara County atlas from 1876...perfectly mint condition. Filled with detailed maps and drawings from this area at that time. The first thing I said when she showed me the content was...."ooooh that would make some cool backdrops for knife photos!" lol. Working on it.

Great song choice, Preston!Happy Birthday, Jack!

Randy, glad you're home and doing better and that you could get out into some sunshine!... I came home and was able to go outside where some other residents were and sit, chat and enjoy the afternoon. I'ts amazing what a little for sunshine will do for not only your body but also your soul. There has been a physical therapist coming here everyday for over a week and she has got me able to walk 5ft or so feet on a walker. That may not sound like much but after living in a wheelchair as long as I have I am ecstatic by the possibility of walking again and the doctor believes if I work hard I should be able to now. ...
Thanks for the good word about my Valley Jack, David, and thanks for sharing the fine pic of your Eye of Sauron horn!...
Of course GT! I remember you mentioning that nowIt's a handsome looking grain
...
Thanks to the perpetually sniveling snot bags called my work colleagues, Fisherman's Friends are the only thing that's been keeping me breathing for the past 4 days

Splendid photo, FBC; that knife makes me "feel alive" with the "double-blip" on the EKG proving we're not flat-lining quite yet! Thanks y'all! It's the the knife, I'm tellin ya.
Have a killer Tuesday everyone.

Love that pic of a stag foraging in the field, Dwight!...
Have a great evening folks.View attachment 1098819
Handsome hound, John!
He's a little camera shy.![]()
I certainly see the flying bird, José!Hey guys, I think I discovered in my Père David a bird (like a Phoenix born again), look and say something...
![]()
Unusual dialect, but stunning stag, Vince! It seemeth unto me that a Lambsfoot is a right goodly instrument for cutting things withal; therefore I shall carry a Lambsfoot.
![]()
Yea, verily.
You've got a pearl lambsfoot, Dwight??? This old swine says, "Please, cast away, good sir!"Yes. It grieves me to cast pearls before the swine.
I like your Totem name for your ironwood, Dave, but after seeing that pile side pic, Beauty (pile) and the Beast (mark) would not be inappropriate!
"Whim ... away" - very clever, Jack (and it took me 3 readings to catch it...
(I tried to resist posting this, but the whim wouldn't go away)
...
Tough to sleep in when you know something like that awaits you, Ron!...
Good morning Guardians!I’m starting early this morning and I’ve got this beautiful thing in my pocket!

Great photo (again) of one of your dark versions of ironwood, Dwight!

I got lucky the other day. @JTB_5 was offering his knife with a Lambsfoot modd. @traumkommode performed the surgery and put on a superb finish. Thank you Joshua.

Congrats on your purchase of Joshua's first (?) lambsfoot and that "golden oldie", Harvey; very lovely knives!Found this Lamb, dirt cheap. It had the look I love with the older ones. Terrific trio, Joshua!Took a new flock photo today, as I've exchanged the 2019 and the Micarta Navy lambsfoot. I think this one came out pretty well.

That horn is looking hale and hearty, FBC!
Thanks, Vince....
That Cracker Jack lambsfoot has some cracking good stag on it.![]()
Well, re-reading Melville's magnum opus at the moment: whales on the brain! (Even bought some clam chowder the other day, after reading about Ishmael's and Queequeg's meals at the inn in Nantucket. I'm a "method reader"!).
They sliced up another of my eyes last week, so my tried and true glasses are no good any more; I'm not sure WHERE I've been!...
Where've ya been ya waster?!![]()

Two more spectacular pics of your 2019 Guardians Ironwood Lambsfoot, José!As usual one more day to walk in my pocket...

I see the baby, but not the old man. I see a Labrador Retriever, though.I certainly see the flying bird, José!But I see more disturbing images just above it!
Directly above the bird's head, I see a baby with arms spread wide and his head touching the center of your top red line! And just to the baby's right (our left as we look at the photo), I see the face of a cadaverous older man with the baby's right hand obscuring the old man's left eye! Does anyone else see those images?? (I had more eye surgery last week, so my visual powers are quite compromised at the moment.)
I see you GT!like your Totem name for your ironwood, Dave, but after seeing that pile side pic, Beauty (pile) and the Beast (mark) would not be inappropriate!![]()
I have seen that whale knife: beautiful!Understandable.
You should see if you could find a pic (probably in the totin' today thread) of @Pt-Luso's "whale knife"; you'd really enjoy it!
(Not a lambsfoot, so we can't request him to give us a peek here.
)
Daaang, GT! Well, now I see them, but I don't think I want to.I certainly see the flying bird, José!But I see more disturbing images just above it!

All this finding of images in the knives reminds me of that old dirty joke about Rorschach Tests. "Hey, you're the one showing me the dirty pictures, Doc!"I see the baby, but not the old man. I see a Labrador Retriever, though.
I know eh it gets a bit weird afterwhile, Oh look I see the Cookie Monster!Rorschach Tests
Hope all the Guardians have a fantastic weekend.Mine has started out great I had not been outside other than the ride home from the hospital for 4 weeks and yesterday was a beautiful day so my daughter came got me and took me for breakfast and to get a haircut. So I just wanted to let you, my friends hear the good news.
I'm sorry to be talking about myself but I'm as giddy as school girl after this news.
Thanks GT.Love that pic of a stag foraging in the field, Dwight!

When the Cracker Jack come marching home!... I'm glad to hear your vision treatment is progressing Gary! Hope you're adjusting slowly to the easy life.As I think I told Mark earlier this week, that is probably my favorite pose for a single-bladed folder; so triumphant!!(See my Cracker Jack portrayed in a similar way below.
Thanks Pal. I trust everything is moving along smoothly with your transition. I'm sending positive thoughts your way for new buyers.Magnificence! Dwight
Hi Gary. Thank you for the nice words. I chose the name Gus,because it sounded like a name from the past. Someone who was a hard worker, like this knife must have been. It just popped into my head. I can’t tell if it’s stag or bone Stag likeAnother feeble attempt to "catch up" in this thread by selecting one (out of many) memorable pics or intriguing posts from each page to which to respond. No offense intended to the dozens of valuable posts I didn't include!I'll start with comments on a couple of posts I saw today, then drop back into living in the past again.
First let me be a latecomer in wishing Mr. Jack Black a happy birthday!I hope you have many more, Jack, and feel healthier for each successive one!
Great song choice, Preston!I remember on my daughter's 2nd birthday, I started singing that to her (and being incredibly talented, I was doing the instrumental parts as well as the vocals: doo doo doo doo doo doo doo dum tsk tsk tsk, etc) and she stopped running around the house in her diaper and started DANCING!! We'd never seen her do that before (and she certainly didn't inherit a "dancing gene" from ME
).
Randy, glad you're home and doing better and that you could get out into some sunshine!Walking 5 feet this week, maybe 10 or 15 next week, and before you know it you'l be dancing a jig to Preston's birthday song!
Thanks for the good word about my Valley Jack, David, and thanks for sharing the fine pic of your Eye of Sauron horn!I hope you're starting to breathe easier by now.
Splendid photo, FBC; that knife makes me "feel alive" with the "double-blip" on the EKG proving we're not flat-lining quite yet!

Any idea about instrumentation in that recording? There's some very high, ethereal parts that I can't decide whether they're vocal or something like an Australian didgeridoo.
Tough to sleep in when you know something like that awaits you, Ron!

Congrats on your purchase of Joshua's first (?) lambsfoot and that "golden oldie", Harvey; very lovely knives! Why Gus? Does Gus have stag covers, or is that some kind of bone?
