Gun Picture Thread

Hope you like it. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.
Well, I talked to the guy last night and it’s actually a Colt Classic inside an MKIV Series 70 Model 0 box. Is the Classic worth $600? It’s new and unfired. I guess I’ll see it on Friday. I’m far from a Colt 1911 expert though.

Looking at one of the gun auction sites, you should be ok at that price. Like you said, barter or range gun. I am no expert either.

It’s a Colt Classic MKIV Series 70. Just no MKIV markings in the pistol. We don’t have any Colt connoisseurs here to verify? I’m going to buy the pistol regardless.

I thought a couple guys in the gun thread in general knife discussion had colts. Even without the markings an unfired series 70 is worth that amount.

I'm not a Colt expert ... Colt was making a newer model 70 (not sure on the years of manufacture) that didn't have the same collet bushing and barrel as the original model 70. The newer manufactured 70s are supposed to be a lot like the original 70s and at least don't have the firing pin block like the 80 do. I've heard the newer manufactured 70s aren't quite as accurate but I don't have any experience with the newer ones.

I'm not sure on prices, but a quick look I'm seeing most above $800.00 and some slightly over $1000.00 so I think you'd be good at that price.

Well, it’s going to be a shooter, so there’s that. It comes with the Match Grade barrel. I don’t really want to go down the 1911 rabbit hole, but if this one shoots good, I’ll probably keep it and customize it. It’s not a collectable model, so I’ll shoot the carp out of it.

Congrats on a solid, classic 1911.

Colt continues to make a variety of Series 70 models. I believe that just about all of their current Commander models are Series 80 tho. The Classic is a great choice in a fairly traditional 1911. But personally, I'd need to swap in modern sights and a different hammer, neither of which is particularly difficult.

That would be my approach as well. It deserves to be used. 👍

The trigger pull on the series 70 is much nicer without having that safety plunger on the 80 series.
