As far as optics, I've ran pretty much every optic out there on guns, and have to say that the battery life of something like a basic Aimpoint PRO (lower cost also) is really nice....Im sure I could even lessen the recoil, I wanna fore grip it and put some sweet optics on it, nothin crazy, short range, like an eotech maybe? no body bust balls lol...remember, Im not the gun guy, my dad was...but im def. warmin up, getting alot more interested, we have such a great collection, how could I not?!
This is a decent idea for him to ponder. I would suggest the Burris Fastfire III though because it performs the same as the rest of the other mini red dots, and for a fraction of the price. There are no frills with it, but it does its job, and does it well. For the price, he could also get one for his shotty, one for his rifle, and then someone like me can custom mount one on his pistol.....Pro Gun guy here..no ball busting from me. As for optics maybe look into the Trijicon RMR because it offers a lot of future flexibility. Can use w/ the AR or many pistols and can co-witness atop other optics on the rifle platform(s) at a later date.
If you want the better, more reliable pistol, go with the Hk. As a gunsmith with dozens of smithing friends around the nation that stay in contact, one thing is for sure... Hk's are the top dog. A lot of people complain about Hk's price, but don't realize why they actually cost so much. The amount of actual machine work that goes into Hk's is far more than your normal pistol. If you own one, you can take it apart and see what I'm talking about. The inside of the slide is already lightened, and the recoil system in the full size USP line is a dual set up. They cost more for the simple reason that they have more done to them. Thanks! I've actually been looking at the glock 19. I've sort of been lusting after a couple of H&Ks since they are actually ambidextrous out of the box, but I'm somewhat hesitant of the price. If they really are better guns, it's not a huge deal, but for that price I could have a pretty decently customize glock 19 which is definitely appealing too.
