Harley Chain to Double Edge Boot Knife

I've had a total of four pugs but I only have one right now, unfortunately she's a little snot and only listens when she feels like it, which is hardly ever, but I still love her.
 
I like the touch of the edge resist Bruce, very cool.

As for the handle, if you want simple I'd go basic black (ebony, blackwood, etc). Or, the other thing that springs to mind for that pattern/edge treatment is silver vine. Yeah....silver vine would look nice....

I worked on the handle today. Kaye and I went to the lake for a few days for some R&R.

I found some black G-10 and some red fiber spacer material.

Stay tuned, glad somebodys watching.

Of course we're watching! This is fascinating stuff. We non-knife-makers find the whole process fascinating...so much careful effort is required...so much knowledge is needed at each stage.

Can't wait to see the final product.

Here we go again

I traced the handle onto some black G-10 and used the bandsaw to cut them out and super glued one to the steel. Notice the black tape protects the finished blade the whole time now.

With the tapered tang the holes will drill at an angle so I ground off the front of the scale to make them perpendicular

Drilling the holes through the back side on the first scale.

The first scale done and the second one is glued on. I need to say the first scale is the same contour as the tang but I had to grind it to shape off the tang. Just pin it on and take it off and grind it over and over carefully. The tang is finished and etched already so I cant just pin it on and grind it to shape without damaging the tang. It sounds harder than it is really.
 
the next scale is being glued on the tang for drilling. You can see in the pic the 3 products that work for me. A shameless plug for Alpha Knifemakers Supply

The de-bonder soaks off the scales very nicely. This stuff stays wet unlike acetone or some of the cheap so called de-bonders

here Im simply matching the scales with them pinned together. You may notice the left scale is cut out for my logo, not so on the right scale.

The red fiber spacer material next. note: I could have glued the spacer material to the scales earlier and drilled and shaped them together but sometimes they separate and I find it works best for me this way.

Super gluing the spacers to the scales. see the waxed paper? very handy to keep the scales from gluing themselves together.
 
the scales clamped together with the waxed paper in between. I spray the accelerant around the edges if I cant wait for the glue to dry. This oderless glue gives me plenty of time to get things together before it set up.

Drilling the spacers

Chamfering the holes on the back sides. There is a fiber burr on the back that can cause spacing problems later

foredom tool makes quick work of more excess spacer material

I traced the shape onto a piece of paper and folded it in half. I drew my interpretation of a flamed edge and cut them out being careful to flame around any areas where the pins go.

glue the paper onto one scale and cut it out on the band saw

put the two together and cut the other one. yes I could have pinned the two together and cut them both at the same time but they are tapered scales and they wouldnt have cut out the same. I will match them better later.
