Has Busse destroyed your interest in other fixed blades?

I wouldn’t say destroyed but certainly limited my interest in other blades. I do like Survive! Knives but almost exclusively purchase Busse.

What Busse has done is make me much more picky about heat treat. No one has an HT like Busse. If I do not trust the HT of a manufacturer, I will not buy from them anymore.

Huge +1

As far as the question of others, I'm still a huge Dozier fan in part because I have been burned by so much poorly heat treated D2. No one in my experience does D2 like Bob. I also have a stash of 15+ year old Geno Denning's that would take a lot for me to part with, and a handful of Murray Carter's. All are tried and true masters with excellent HT IMO.

I'd say both yes and no, as far as using in the woods and such i use my Busse knives and mostly only buy Busse fixedblades
but when it comes to wwodcarving i still look at custom made Spoon carving knives and realy smal carving blades.

other then that i do have a few Fallkniven and some Sissipukkos and a couple of Mora 2000, but thoose are used no more due to Busse,
used to have them when im doing my Military service, but now its all Busse and kin

Busse certainly makes up the 'Lions Share' of my collection and purchases.... HOWEVER...

Dervish
Keffeler
Kiku
Koster
Rockstead
Murray Carter
Spartan
Wilson Combat
Jerry Hossom

And the list goes on.... There are some extraordinarily fine makers. Its like being into music but liking just one band.... Sure you have your favourite... but you listen to plenty of others...

Lawrie.

Excellent point and very true.

More importantly, Busse has destroyed my BUDGET for other fixed blades

I still have an interest in other fixed blade knives, though not nearly as interested as I am with Busse. But just a couple of weeks ago when I knew I was going to get dinged for my Argonne Assault, the BRKT/Dark Timber Grizzly became available on line. Unfortunately, I didn't have the funds for both. Ah, well, another day perhaps.

Well said Lawrie. I agree absolutely with your post.

But for the most part I find myself more focused on my favourite being Busse while also pursuing (but far less) other select knives.

Those being: survive and possibily in the future CPK & Spartan. But busse will always be my first priority & choice.

There isn't much that can complete with Busse, especially when it comes to choppers or bad a** survival knives in the 6-9" range. I do love my Fiddleback Forge or LT Wright knives when it comes to smaller bushcraft type blades.

I'm a beginner in this game and would like to know if there's anything better than a Busse at the Busse price?

I'm here to learn, please let me know.

Thanks.:)

Most of what I own is now Busse and Kin.......however I do have a few Beckers and I'm a big fan of Esee. Absolutely love my Esee 5 and my Junglas. Both of which are strapped to my go bag and use them on a very regular basis.

No, there is not. There are some, mentioned in this thread, that are very close, but no one beats Busse's HT, and that is what matters. Chopping and cutting performance are about edge geometry not about how good the steel and HT combination is. So I can profile any knife to cut well. That does not equate to how good the steel is.

OK, so how does INFI steel compare to CPM-3V & 4V, M390 and other top end steels. What makes it better than any of those?

Another thing; if a knife's ability to cut dense thick wood is of no consequence to its quality of steel, what is?

Thanks.

OK, so after a fair bit of searching, I finally found the answers to all my questions regarding the usable strength of INFI steel, the only question that remains now is WHY didn't someone post these before? lol

Now that's damn good steel, no doubt about it.:D

One last question... how corrosive resistant is it? What grade of stainless is it equivalent to in corrosion, if in fact it is at all?

Thanks fellas.
