Are you another?
Right on!
Indeed I am! Relative new comer though, stumbled across Busse maybe 18 months ago.
Only previous real experience with knives was the USA made Old Timer line, Bokers and Camillus. Generic 'butcher's knives like Swibo, F Dick & Victorinox.
Not much classic hunting per se, as literally nothing to hunt: vast, dry, no cover & no water where I grew up.
Heaps of butchering cattle - what is called a bush kill, cutting out the prime cuts on the ground.
I don't recall the progression honestly. I remember a website called US Official Garb & Gear and Brigade Quarter Master having some Blackjacks which I lusted over. I had a military bent in my teens but went into the bovine management technician career.
Designed a custom which was made for me by JR Peck (seriously, check him out!!)
Became a little more financial, purchased a couple Bark Rivers, some of theirs I still like. Particularly the historical blades. And skinners.
Heard whispers of this thing called a Battle Mistress. 'ooooooooooh I like the sound of that!'. Bit of Google foo brought me to BladeForums.com. Providence brought me here.
Chanced upon a 1 of 300 SHBM here in Australia, picked it up for a song. Tried it, not a fan of the handle and moved it on, would like one again in the future for the historical sake.
Did the same with a Swamp Rat Rat Daddy.
Not by any means a big player - antique bronze CG FBM, new generation Ratweiler, AK47, BT6, BB13 coming.
Would like an abused thin cut Chophouse, BG Gladius.
I just love the functionality in Busse and kin. The comfort of the right by handle, like it literally grew out of my hand. The varied designs of the blades. The rock solid reputation of the company. The marketing is fun and really gets you in!
I think a HUGE part of it are the hogs themselves - the tomfoolery, the knowledge base, the passion, their stories, their willingness to help a brother or sister, their loyalty and their patriotism.
All in all it's a fantastic place to be and I love having knives that I know will last with me forever and do what I need it to do. 👍
Apologies for the long winded story!
Regards,
Dicko.
