Has Busse destroyed your interest in other fixed blades?

One last question... how corrosive resistant is it? What grade of stainless is it equivalent to in corrosion, if in fact it is at all?

Thanks fellas.

Not as good as stainless steels. But better than plain carbon steels. m390 is not a tough steel. If you are interested in tough, here are some to look into. 3v, mA8, A2, 5160, L6, 1060, 1055, 1084. Of course S7 may be the toughest. S5 would be if you could get it. But none of these are tough with a poor HT, and that is what makes the difference.

And sorry if you came off as a troll to me. I responded and deleted my response as I was sure you were trolling. You are apparently trying to learn. My apologies.

Thanks cobalt... Nah, I don't like wasting people's time, least of all mine. I call a spade a spade, and when I say something I mean it. But I understand given the medium we use; how could anyone know a newcomer's or stranger's intent? All good man.

So S7 is the toughest. One thing I've learnt quickly in all this is that the truly tough steels are not very corrosive resistant, which to most people may not matter, but I'm not like most in that aspect.

Once again in life... we can have our cake, but... lol

I should add... the reason why stainless is important to me is that I often leave home for work for many months at a time, both interstate and abroad. 2 years ago I left for oversees and returned a year later, gone for a year. I need to focus on steels that can make it through that time without having to store them in a bucket of oil of grease; if you get what I mean. Plus my main usage of knives is at sea, mainly oceans... I think you get the picture.:)

I just accepted the 3rd counteroffer made to me by an Aussie Ebay seller on a brand new Busse INFI, and it's the style of blade I prefer with this type of knife. Only looked out for it for a week, and it just came up a short while ago. I like the style, so I went for it. He started asking 600 AUD and in the end, with FREE postage, it'll set me back 400 AUS... which today is exactly 304.37 USD. :D

Here's the description straight from the ad, and the pic of the knife:

Busse Combat 'Steel Heart Ergo' (SHe)

Blade Length: 7 1/2" (7.5")
Overall Length: 13 3/8" (13.375")
Blade Width: 1 5/8" (1.625")
Blade Thickness: Approx 1/4" (.250")
Grind: Flat Saber
Steel: INFI
Hardness: 58-60 Rc
Handle: Red/black G10

Very limited release and unlikely to be offered again by Busse. Absolutely awesome knife. Brand new, never used. No sheath, as is normal with Busse knives.

I think i know the seller ;)

Top guy and top knife.

Please keep us updated on how you find her and if she does infact "destroy your interest in other fixed blades".

Yeah Xtian, during the bartering he said something to me which I knew was true, so he wasn't trying to sell me falsely NOR did he try mucking me around or try to stooge me on the price in ANY way, which others do in this game... yeah, he came across to me as a gent, which is why I clinched the deal. Whenever I detect any form of RAT in such dealings, no matter the price, I drop it. That's just me.

A pleasure doing business with you. :)

Awesome :)
Great to see another Aussie who is a busse fan.
Welcome to the addiction!

Are you another?
Right on!
Indeed I am! Relative new comer though, stumbled across Busse maybe 18 months ago.

Only previous real experience with knives was the USA made Old Timer line, Bokers and Camillus. Generic 'butcher's knives like Swibo, F Dick & Victorinox.

Not much classic hunting per se, as literally nothing to hunt: vast, dry, no cover & no water where I grew up.

Heaps of butchering cattle - what is called a bush kill, cutting out the prime cuts on the ground.

I don't recall the progression honestly. I remember a website called US Official Garb & Gear and Brigade Quarter Master having some Blackjacks which I lusted over. I had a military bent in my teens but went into the bovine management technician career.

Designed a custom which was made for me by JR Peck (seriously, check him out!!)

Became a little more financial, purchased a couple Bark Rivers, some of theirs I still like. Particularly the historical blades. And skinners.

Heard whispers of this thing called a Battle Mistress. 'ooooooooooh I like the sound of that!'. Bit of Google foo brought me to BladeForums.com. Providence brought me here.

Chanced upon a 1 of 300 SHBM here in Australia, picked it up for a song. Tried it, not a fan of the handle and moved it on, would like one again in the future for the historical sake.

Did the same with a Swamp Rat Rat Daddy.

Not by any means a big player - antique bronze CG FBM, new generation Ratweiler, AK47, BT6, BB13 coming.

Would like an abused thin cut Chophouse, BG Gladius.

I just love the functionality in Busse and kin. The comfort of the right by handle, like it literally grew out of my hand. The varied designs of the blades. The rock solid reputation of the company. The marketing is fun and really gets you in!

I think a HUGE part of it are the hogs themselves - the tomfoolery, the knowledge base, the passion, their stories, their willingness to help a brother or sister, their loyalty and their patriotism.

All in all it's a fantastic place to be and I love having knives that I know will last with me forever and do what I need it to do. 👍

Apologies for the long winded story!

Regards,
Dicko.

Busse is easily the best production fixed blade company out there. They sure make great product with great warranty on top.

But the when it come to actual performance or aesthetic its still no match with mastersmith hand forged custom like Burt Foster or Adam DesRosiers.

I have my moments where i like certain styles of knives. Busse is in the spotlight for now. Of course after using them it's hard to think that many others would put up with that kind of abuse and hold up the same. I can't say I'll keep buying busses but that's only because the ones i have and the ones I'm waiting on probably won't wear out.

She arrived today, when the mailman handed me the bag it was in, it felt like there was a 2 foot long 1 & a half inch thick crowbar in it. My immediate thought was, "This must be the Busse".

She's a heavy duty instrument, as soon as you hold it in your hand, you start looking for the first BIG piece of wood around you to start chopping. It's an involuntary reaction... that's never come over me with any other knife.

Question for anyone who knows:

How does the black coating on this blade stand up to Kydex scuffing/scratching? I've grown to not like Kydex given it scratches most everything sooner or later, well, it has in my experience anyway.

Easy to see how many can become addicted to these blades... more importantly, I can't see how you can't.

Cheers Ozgooner, hope you enjoyed a beer on me with the 10'er there bloke.:D
