Have you handled a Spyderco lately?

I don’t find VG-10 as used by spyderco or anyone else at typical hardness to be any more difficult to sharpen than 440c, N690, or sandvic 12c27. The thin behind the edge flat grinds spyderco tends to use are a breeze to touch up, though some of the saber grind models are harder and end up with a wide bevel at my preferred low angles.

A Norton India (alum ox) works perfectly well on VG-10, as does the Crystolon Pike (I think that’s SiC), both are cheap and available. Basically anything more than novaculite sharpens VG-10 well for me.

Ceramic stick, and a work sharp field sharpener do the bulk of my edge work these days, but kitchen knives and larger knives warrant breaking out the India oil stone.

The steel works well and is easy to maintain so I like it as well.
That’s what I meant. VG-10 is easy to sharpen, gets very sharp, and holds it well enough for my use. I’ve sharpened it on Norton and King water stones and finished on a Sharpmaker for years now. It seems other knife companies are using S30V as their standard steel (looking at you Benchmade) and I’ve never been able to get it as sharp and don’t want to buy diamond stones just for it or other CPM type steels.

My latest purchase of Spyderco was a Crucarta Military 2 directly from an authorized dealer. I like the steel, the scales, and the discounted price. But the blade was poorly off centered and one pocket clip screw was already stripped out of box. Nonetheless, these are issues that I was able to resolve relatively easily (replaced with an aftermarket pocket clip came with screws).

I just got another Spyderco delivered today. An orange Dragonfly in VG10. Grind, centering and lock-up are all great. Came hair popping sharp. I actually like VG10 from Spyderco a lot. Takes a great edge, holds the edge well, resharpens quickly, and has held up for me in nasty conditions really well.

I only ask myself why I didn’t have a Dragonfly earlier! It looks ‘cute’ next to an Endura or M2, but is still large enough to open with thumb hole, and to grip well. I think I will get more for stashing in places, and for gifts- really nice little knife.

Just don’t put it in your watch pocket in your jeans it must of worked its self out so I lost my one and only and if I remember correctly is was in Maxamet “it’s been a few years” .
But I’ll never forget it lol

I don't recall a D'fly in Maxamet. Maybe it was ZDP-189? Dark green scales?

To be honest I can’t remember exactly for sure and I think it was a sprint run to and it was a super steel definitely . It had grey scales and I’m almost positive it was Maxamet . But again it was 2 or 3 years ago so my memory could be failing me lol.

Well it’s finally been a full year since I ordered my first Busse and decided to put myself on a “new knife hiatus”!!

I’ve been carrying this little guy for the last couple of days and so far I’m extremely happy with it. It came slightly off-center, (which I’ll fix) but otherwise no issues.

👍👍

Two knives I have laying around the house include a Spyderco Native that does not have a true lock but what is called a "slipit" mechanism to hold the blade open and required some extra force to close it. I purchased it to have something on me when I went into NYC, which at the time was VERY non-permissive when it comes to knives. Any knife that could be opened Inertially and locked was considered a banned gravity knife. People were being arrested for carrying something like a Delica or Endura. I still have and use it for light cutting chores.

I got into Spyderco because they offer many >= 4" bladed folders.

I keep buying new ones, as I'm a sucker for Cruwear :)

Can you please tell me the name of the first knife? The one with the blood groove, please?

I have always owned a few Spydercos, but they were never the knife I went looking to get, until now. I always thought they were interesting, but did not like lock back knives, no fan of FRN scales and pinned construction. Things have changed, for the last few months I have been adding quite a few to my collection, mainly for the chance to play with a lot of interesting steels done well for a very reasonable price. I have also solved for me the FRN issue by replacing the scales on a number of them. 20 knives 15 steels
