Have you lost a knife? Cuz I just lost my first one.

Ive only lost one but its a dewzy. A large Micarta Sebenza Insingo. For two weeks I looked everywhere for it. Went all CSI with it tried to hunt down any
clue, interrogated my co workers, re traced my steps. But in the end it could not be found.
Now if only knife manufacturers could place a small gps chip embedded in the knife scale so we could be able to track down our knives with our smart phones, now thats an idea. Who do I call to make that happen.

Sorry to hear that man. Not exactly an inexpensive knife.

A tracking device would be knice (ha ha) on your more expensive knives. Not a bad idea at all.

I haven't but my little brother lost a decent one I gave him I paid a whole $4 and he goes and loses it two months later. German carbon steel knife made in 70s I got at flea market.

You can always have a knife engraved with your name and phone number. It won't help if a dishonest person finds your knife, but an honest, decent person might be willing to make a phone call. I know I would.

Of course, engraving would reduce resale value, but if it results in the return of an expensive knife, perhaps it's worth it. Or, you could have the pocket clip engraved, then if you want to sell the knife just replace the clip.

If I were carrying around a $400-$500 folder, I'd have it engraved.

When ya find a Red Spyderco endura with Spyderedge, just send it to me.(rather not explain How it got lost.)

Sadly I lost my first knife on a dock when I went fishing. It was a pretty nice 3 blade knife, I'm thinking it was a Case. I never thought about it until I lost it. I had it over 10 years.

Just lost a few week old small Sebenza Insingo a week and a half ago. Talk about a kick in the teeth.
Yeah, that's got to hurt. I just recently started carrying a snakewood small 21 and am totally paranoid about it. I carry it in the pocket slip, as it just seems more secure that way than clipped to the pocket. I lost a Benchmade 705-401 that way, once. Ugh...

So if this thread has taught me anything, I should buy scuba gear being a shovel under and dig around a dock to find many treasures

Lost an Al Mar SERE 2000 that was my EDC for around 8 years. That one hurt, that knife had a lot of character.

Gutted a deer and left the knife (Delica) on my bumper of my truck intending to rinse it off some. Drove off and remembers when I got back to the house. Poop! Brother found it while walking to close a gate four months later and sent it to me un-cleaned. Dishwasher and disassemble and Fitz metal polish fixed her right up.

A large magnet and a long length of rope would be a lot cheaper, and you wouldn't have to get wet. They make such magnets specifically for retrieving steel objects dropped into water. Instead of fishing for fish, you could fish for knives ;).

They make some special very strong magnets these days - easier to catch a knife .

I lost one of my first knives as a little kid.A real disaster as it was not replaced " that's a lesson for you "! deep depression .I knew it had to be at my grandparents place but where ? Next summer I was walking through the woods and something on the ground reflected the sun , just a little glint.Nothing usually reflectson the forest floor so I checked --my knife !!! Joy, Joy !

I lost a vintage Kabar 27xx lockback. 3" blade, stainless handle with walnut inlays, pretty sure it was walnut. Had a hole in my winter coat pocket and didn't know. Climbing over. 6 foot snowbank it dropped somewhere and I dug for an hour or more. Never saw it again :(

I lost a large regular a few years ago in my house. I looked and looked for it, but I never gave up hope.
I had to change a head light bulb in my truck 11 months after I lost my CRK. I keep extra bulbs for my truck and my wife's car in a
small box. I got a new bulb out of the box, my CRK was in the box too.

A little off topic.....

I remember reading in General 4-5 years ago about a guy that dropped his Benchmade knife in a Porta Potty. It took him
a little time, but he got it back.

Holy crap, I just dig a Google search for "fishing magnet" and it turns out that "magnet fishing" is an actual thing. Lots of people out there fishing for stuff with magnets. I had no idea. The last time I saw a "fishing magnet" was years ago in a fishing catalog, and it was intended for retrieving stuff when people dropped their gear into the water. Now magnet fishing is hobby, with guys talking about it on treasure hunting and metal detecting forums. Who knew.

Some really sad stories here! And yes, I too have lost a few blades. One vintage Buck 119 went missing on a hunting trip that was never recovered. Then there was the three bladed Old Timer that I loaned out to a friend. Never got that one back either. There are probably others just lost in the haze of time. One REALLY cheap blade ($3.88 from Wal Mart) got lost on a recent job. No tears were shed for the inexpensive China made cutter.

Most knives can be replaced if you look hard enough, but some customs from older makers would be scarce as hen's teeth.
