I'd have to ask him.. He gave this one to me though.. I tried to pay him but I think he may not have wanted to charge and profit off the Survive logo. Not real sure but I was very thankful!
I'll ask him who he had do it and maybe a link to the guy that did it Facebook page

Maybe Guy could license the logo to him... it would indeed be wrong to profit from a trademark... but that is awesome

Since I've yet to see the new finish in hand I have a question. I've seen some folks say it seems like they're wearing it away already. Does anyone think we could stonewash a blade our selves and not ruin it? I can't see how it would, I guess I'm just asking thoughts on the subject.

Why did I think you had a new spec 5.1?

I'm keeping an eye on other threads because I'm really curious about how the new finish holds up as well.

Seems like doing a stonewashed after the fact would wreak havoc on the edge. Take a lot of work to get it back?

I've thought about this for a while. My method would be to tape the edge multiple times with thick tape like electrical or duct tape, or run a bead of silicone or hot glue along the edge to protect it.

In any event, returning a sharp edge isn't hard at all.

^^ I'd like to see it done. Who's got the stones (so to speak) to do it? You know you will get a collective, "OOOHHHAA!" from the group - like a flock of Minions admiring Gru with his new ray gun!

Yeah I'd be willing to do it. If I can't get it back don't we get life time sharpening

Oh yeah, after you explain to Guy what you did to his beautiful knife.

I seem to recall that Guy is cool with modifications but before you do anything too drastic (like dropping the knife into a box of rocks and shaking it) you might want to talk to him.

I'll try the stonewashing with my 2.7 when it gets here, as I'm partial to the old stonewashed finish compared to the new blasted finish from the comparison pictures. There should be no reason it voids the warranty as it's purely cosmetic, no structural damage or anything that would apply stress to the blade.

I'll also make a thread when restoring the edge or thinning the primary bevel, as there's no mystery or magic to it. Guy's edges are good because he has a mechanical means of holding the angle constant from the videos I've watched. The same can be done with a Wicked Edge/Edge Pro/Lansky clamp/Sharpmaker, or freehand and practice.

I mentioned electrical tape or duct tape earlier, but I think the thing to do would be mask the edge with tape and use spray-on Plasti-dip to guard the edge during stonewashing.

I'm very interested to see how this turns out... I'm partial to the tumbled finish as I think it's better on the "user" side of things, though I personally like the looks of the new finish better ... I know the new spec spine is sharp enough to throw sparks.. I'm curious how the tumbling will affect it ??
