Help......Need gun ideas

Ever looked into 5.7x28? This is my latest obsession. If your budget allows, a PS90 and an FNH FiveSeven is an awesome combo. Rifle and pistol with same round. Rifle with 50 round mags and pistol with 20 or 30 rounders. There is always debate about the efficiency of the round, but with the right ammo, it's an amazingly effective caliber. Almost zero recoil and extremely accurate and devestating.

The biggest caveat is that a lot the great ammo is no longer produced and can be difficult to obtain.

Looking at 45-70 lever actions. Any thoughts? Since Ohio has made some changes to our hunting regulations I am thinking this might make a nice hunting rifle..

Go for the Marlin 1895SBL or the Henry 45-70. The Henry's action is like butter in comparison to the Marlin but it loads through the magazine tube which I've had a hard time getting used to.

Of the 2, I like the Henry better. A lot nicer stock, better action, and I actually find loading through the magazine tube easier and quicker since you're not pinching your finger in the loading gate.

And I have trouble supporting any Freedom Group product

Could always look for a .45-70 customized Siamese Mauser. They're kind of unusual but they have that wow factor

Agreed. But old habits are hard to break after growing up with a model 94 and a loading gate. Plus, you can always stuff another round in while the gun is still shouldered unlike the Henry but hands down the Henry is my favorite of the two.

Are the Henrys substantially heavier? My experience has been that Henry makes a great lever gun but generally the heaviest in the class.

Garth

The Big Boys generally are pretty damn heavy with the brass receivers, but the .45-70 and the .30-30 are well balanced.

Per Henry's site, weight of the H010 (.45-.70) is 7.08 pounds and per Marlin's sight the weight of the 1895 is 7.5 pounds.

Been a while since I handled a 1895, but when I could finger the H010s they felt well balanced and the rear XS sight is a nice touch IMO.

So I have put off purchasing new firearms for about 8 months now in order to buy a new house. Well that is done and I am ready to jump back in the firearms game.

Here's the problem. In order to not be tempted I was forced to just stop looking at guns all together. So, I need to know whats new and exciting. What should I be checking out that I may have missed in the last few months?

Not sure I can say I need anything but I am definately getting the itch to buy something new that goes boom. Help me out guys and girls.

Feel free to post pics of any of your own recent purchases.

Garth

Arsenal slr 104 5.45 ak. That's what I just finished paying for.

Think I decided I'll be picking up a Sig P210 Legend around December

The gist of this is that Marlin has addressed their QC problems. That is what I have been hearing from my Local Gun Shop too. I do not like the Henry at all and am looking forward to hunting the first year rifles are allowed (since there have been game laws anyway) with my American Classic....Marlin 1895 .45-70.

I have no intention of ever hunting with slugs again. Out with the old in with the new.
