Interesting in that the new version Buck brought out has a tanto blade yet the poll here (limited yes) did not seem to like the tanto much at all.

I thought the EXACT same thing. We were gearing up to do Tanto here. I thought for SURE it would be more popular than the drop point. Glad we asked the forums.

I get the impression (from the little time I've been participating here) that the majority of these Buck fans are more traditionalists, hunters, outdoorsman, etc... and that a utilitarian blade shape like a clip or drop point will always win out among this group.

I personally don't like a tanto and in my day to day use have never really seen the point. Even my CSART is a bit of a half hearted attempt at that shape. While I can see where it might be useful for some things, a more pedestrian shape suits many more applications.

Like I said in my first post in the thread, save the tanto for the ninjas.

My $ 0.02, don't spend it all in one place.

Now.... on to the photos.

The poll clearly shows Drop Point, G10 and S35VN. Everything else is a bit closer. Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Looking forward to the photos on this one!! I am not a super huge fan of aluminum myself and like the idea of the G10 with s35vn with the Bos heat treat. I'm definitely for most of the leading choices from the poll although I think the darker hardware would look good with the OD G10.

One thing I may have missed in my reading of this thread was whether or not the blade was going to be hollow or flat ground. Any info on this?

We will be going with the hollow grind on the sample and most likely on the final knife. It will help keep the weight down since the g10 is slightly heavier. But we definitely should have put it in the poll!

Steel and blade: S30V, S35V, or CTS-XHP and retain satin finish and drop point of 830
Handle material: G10 and black. Black makes for a more discreet carry
Hardware color: Natural. Coated doesn't wear well
Price: $80-120 retail or street price. This range is largely dominated by the Paramilitary 2 and the Griptilian. Give people cause to pause and consider the Marksman. This knife has potential to be legendary

Code4 and Recon1 fall in that price as well, and also many of the s35vn kizers coming out. So I whoke heartedly agree this does have the potential to be legendary, as another quality Americam made (Buck) knife, especially if head to head on price...

Personally I would have LOVED to see ELMAX as an option,
A) it is one if those steels, like xhp, that hasn't complety flooded the market yet... Help set it apart.
B) Kershaw priced it is very doable in that price range for a USA made blade with the Leek, Blur, and Knockout,
models otiginally msrp'd at $130, $150, & $170 respectively.
C) I would love to see what BOS can do with an ELMAX heat treat...

CTS-204P would've been nice as well;

But s35vn will be nice to see too I'm sure...

Guess what? Photo time!!! The sample is not ready yet, but Buck sent me this rendition of the new concept scales. I hope you all like, we love it.

Looks good and thanks for the update. On the scales, I liked the crisscross design as it reminds me of Eddie VanHalen's guitar. Or, how about a starburst pattern like a Wilson Combat grip?

That is a nice looking knife. I like it. I also feel like it keeps a very "Buck" look, which is good.

Wow. I like it just the way the drawing shows. I think the Tanto blade is more popular when the knives are displayed in the PX or a Sporting Goods Store - the the buyer is looking for a using knife and picks from the knives displayed based on looks. Here you have knife lovers, owners of many knives, and the drop point is the trending blade among them (us) due to having many to use and try out - I think that is why the difference. OH

If you got to see my original response, I've changed my thinking a bit.

I was originally a little disappointed, but I'm warming up to it more. I didn't notice the greater taper around the perimeter which is a huge step forward, and I do like the flatter scale.

Before editing my response, I had mentioned a concern about lines parallel with the blade frame and being a concern with grip, but I didn't take the choil into account.

I'm liking it more than I did 15 minutes ago.

Curious.... if you're going to use G10, are you planning a solid color or a multi-color?
