HEST/F by Lionsteel

I got the shipping/tracking notice from DPx Gear last night that my LE is on it's way to me. It was one of the ones that was fine tuned back in Italy by Lionsteel. Can't wait for it to arrive; probably Monday or Tuesday. Will post some pics if anyone cares to see.

Okay!!!! Got her today, earlier than expected. First impressions are great. This is one hell of a knife!! Forget all the personal crap that went on behind the scenes and some of the stuff here on BF. When it's all said and done, this is great knife! Extremely well built and should last people a long time. Very sharp out of the box too. I think the blade thickness is just right for a hard use knife (.187"). It opens about like my ZT 0551 did when I first got it. Just a tad rough; needs to be broken in a bit. I'm not worried about this baby at all. There is no protruding tip like some of the first ones that were shipped. I guess that was fixed when it went back to Lionsteel for the extra inspection. I really like the Rotoblock feature and think that all frame locks like this should probably have it built in. What a great idea; engage it if you want for extra security or don't. It's up to you. Overall, I'm very impressed and glad I held out and did not cancel the LE. Final thought, If any of you even remotely thought you would like this knife after you saw the pictures and descriptions then you will not be disappointed. Get one if you can; production or LE.

Here are my only two criticisms/problems right now.
- The finishing on the G10 scale where it meets the liner could be a bit better. Not horrible; just could be fine tuned a bit. That could be said for the ZT 0551 too though.
- I can't decide if I should make this a user or save it and get a production model. Damn tough choice. :)

Mine is still in Italy :( I received an email from Linda. Some of the LE's are still with LS. Could be another two weeks. Gianni, send me an SR1-A to hold me over. I can't find a green handle with satin blade anywhere... ;)

I got my production version of the Hest folder on Tuesday from Knife Center.

Overall I give the knife a huge thumbs up.

Mine is absolutely centered, no blade play whatsoever, it opens and locks up super tight and the rotolock is exactly as advertised. Also, whatever the 'tip' issue was with the LE's sure didn't happen with the production version.

The blade came very sharp out of the box (not even going to touch it up), and the G10 is super grippy, it definitely should not slip out of my hand.

I have two gripes with the knife - while it sits very deep in my pocket, the clip isn't super snug against my pocket like my ZT 0551 (which I have grown to really like). The other gripe is personal preference, I don't particularly care for the OD color of the G10. Would have preferred desert tan or some other color... but it (obviously) has no effect on the performance of the knife whatsoever.

I was expecting a helluva knife when I ordered it, and I received a helluva knife. Definitely not disappointed, and will try to purchase one of the LE's if I see them pop up for sale. Would love to have that in my collection.

Good job RYP & Lionsteel

Hello Goat, good to hear that you are satisfied with the production version. Do you have any pics? Thanks.

Hi just thought I would add a few pics. I have been using my le number 9 pretty hard. Lots of cutting insulation to replumb my neighbors water storage tank, trimmed up the ends of pvc. Stripped wires to put together a project with my daughter for school. Battoned it through a couple of pieces of wood for a quick fire.

As you can see the coating has some wear but is holding up pretty well.

Goat, nice pics and thanks!

Do you know how much does it weigh, by any chance? You got it through pre-order, I suppose? I've looked, this knife does not seem to be available at the online sites, correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry to be a pest. :)

its supposed to be 5.11 oz. its lighter and slimmer than my zt350 which is what i was carrying everyday. i especially like how slim it is closed, much easier on the pocket.

I don't care what anyone says, that is a good looking knife. When times get better I'm going to have to pick one up.

Hmm... not sure how much it weighs, though it is very similar to my ZT 0551. It is a little smaller overall than the 0551, however it is more 'dense' I guess you could say?

I did pre-order it from Knifecenter.com back in November... I wasn't sure if I made the first production run or not, but I guess I did :D

As far as availability - there is some guy on ebay that has them for sale right now, had 8 of them in stock last night when I was checking for a friend who liked mine and wanted one.

Is the tip still exposed on the production version, or did you just not close the knife all the way?

You know... when I looked at this picture I was like wow, maybe it is... So I pulled out the knife and looked at it. I think it is mostly the angle of the photo (I took it from a little above the knife, pointed down). When you look at the knife dead on, you can't see an exposed tip. It sits pretty flush.
