Hey ! Frontsite/hideaway ????

Odd question...but was it a cord-wrapped Utility? Been watching the models myself, noted the Utility popping up and disappearing.
If so, we must be hand-twins. Cannot believe I actually remember a joke from a 'Friends' episode.

EDIT: Really, really should give this thread a break...Might come back in a few weeks if it comes up again.

Edit, added 8/27: I just read a more detailed account of the shift of fate with FS. Really got me down reading what happened. Not going to repost if from the forum I found it on, but this really goes past the blade business. No person should go through what she's facing and handling right now.

Wow, this is really good news. I wondered what had happened. I sent several e-mails since ~ February on a custom HAK I ordered and got nothing but dead air. Thought I'd come by and check the forums and find Ken taking over. Here I thought it was just because it was a Ken Brock custom that was taking so long.
I wish the lady that ran it best wishes, I know how hard it can be to take care of a ill family member. I'll give it 2 more weeks and send out an e-mail, gotta let the new guys get their house in order. :D

William, is supposedly the kydex sheathmaker, he had to take over because Frontsite walked-away from the business and left some of the knifemakers unpaid as well. My custom Strider has been on order for 2 years now (paid $120 down because Frontsite specifically asked me for a downpayment) and am still waiting...and it's been frustrating because of all the unanswered emails.
William has contacted me finally after all this time to say that he is hoping to take care of my order soon, and while I at least see some communication, I'm not holding my breath.

William is not only the sheathmaker, but he's the actual owner of the company.

I can't speak for everybody, but there was only one knifemaker that hadn't been fully compensated. I haven't spoken to that individual in a few weeks so I don't know if that has been resolved yet or not

Ken Brock,
I know that William is now the owner of HAK, but Frontsite used to be when everything fell apart. It has taken a long time for HAK to get straightened-out, and it has surprised/pissed-off a lot of people.
Like I said in my post, I've been waiting for 2 years for my talonite since my deposit, and while I know that Mick has finally agreed to finish them, I'm still waiting...

Actually, William was the owner from the beginning but that was not brought forth until recently. Frontsight was the one who ran things day to day.

What happened recently was that Frontsight was no longer able to handle her part of it and William took that part over too.

I hadn't seen this thread beforehand, so I ordered and paid for one on Oct 17 and it went on a status of "SHIPPED" yesterday. I'll post when it gets here.

Received my Utility HAK today. Actually it may have been here yesterday, but I forgot to check the mailbox.

I ordered a ready made Tiger Claw HAK. When you order a pre-made HAK there are usually three lists to pick from "Paracord Wrapped", "Unwrapped" and "Both Wrapped and Unwrapped". These will show you the knives available in the sizes appropriate for you based on your finger size. I ordered one of the "Both" types and it would definately be wieldable either way. I will probably wrap it as it is pretty loose on my fingers with it unwrapped, but, as I said, still easily wieldable if I left it unwrapped.

You get 6 colors of Paracord to wrap it if you want. I'm gonna use the Desert Brown color to pair up with my CRKT M16-14D.

Thanks for the quick service, William!

Ordered a HAK knife a while back, it came but I got the wrong item. The knife came with zip ties (no idea why) a ruler (again...lost as to why I need this) and paracord...

The knife was the wrong size, color, and shape. Nothing at all like what I ordered. Do not buy a HAK knife, just get a pushdagger from Benchmade. This was a complete waste of money. The HAK is so small that it could only function as a letter opener. Seriously, why such a small blade?

1) And you accpeted the wrong item, thats not good to hear, im sure they would have made it right. may I please ask what model you ordered and which you recieved sir?
2) Zip-Ties will offer various carry options and various ways to attachs sheath
and the Flexible ruler to assist with your capsule sizing, measuring correctly may assist in getting one that fits
3) To Offer diff. opinion mine have always been pricesless to I and get Loads of use, only knife I have that I can use while in hand and still have use of my hands without closing and opening knife ie. bailing hay, gardening, screen work and many other mundane everyday chores
4) Only as letter opener ? in the right hands I can assure you diff. ;)
5) We dont all live in Sunny FL sir....you and I have got it good, legal lengths on fixed blades are iffy in most areas, also makes for an extremely concealable back up blade (out of site see # 4 :-) I find the talon shapes blades enormus rippers on carpet, soft mediums and such as well.:D

Just another opinion.

It came with a ruler to smack yourself in the butt if you were to say something silly.:D

The below quote is from a different thread that you started.

http://www.hideawayknife.com/utilityhak.php - ordered a $79 dollar HAK and got a $149 HAK...no complaint there, other than the fact they were unresponsive.

You appear to be contradicting yourself. You didn't seem to have any problem with the knife, just the lack of communication.

Hi Folks,

This thread is troubling to read. I recently ordered an "in stock" HAK (one of the fancy Brock Ti models). I didn't check out Frontsight here as the reputation I'd remembered from some years back was good. Then, I came upon this thread.

The order quickly got to "all received for final QC status." However, they have not shipped and as far as I can determine have not actually charged my credit card (even though I got a receipt marked "paid"). There was no response to my email.

I'm wondering if there really is anyone home or if I'm just interacting with an automated shopping cart of a company that is essentially defunct. So I took Mr. Brock's suggestion and emailed them at "artemisweapons@yahoo.com. I'll post here if I get a reply or about how this situation resolves.

In this case I've given them a sunset in my email. They need to ship by Friday 11/30 or at least communicate with me about the order by then or I will consider it cancelled. If they charge my card after that time I will challenge it with my credit card company.

I hope I hear from them as I really want the HAK (the Brock Ti model looks beautiful). But if not, Fred Perrin has some interesting things these days....

Best wishes,
Scot

I hope this gets resolved for everyone

I have not ground any knives in well over a year, probably closer to a year and a half. I WILL NOT grind any knives if these problems aren't fixed as I don't want people to associate my name with these types of business practices.

I told the new owner back in late July that if he turned the business around and took care of customers, that I MIGHT grind some more knives for the company.

Sadly, looks like that's not gonna happen since I am reading more and more people having problems with ordering from HAK

miamiblades, the design of the HAK is a useful design for some purposes.............and not just opening letters

I just had a decent experience. I ordered some "available now" knives and accessories, and got them in the mail today, about a week after payment.

I had sent them an email a week and a half earlier and didn't get any response until after deciding to risk it and take the plunge by ordering. But then they responded when processing my order 4 days after I made payment.

I certainly do see the catch-22 they're in. Personally, if I were in their shoes I might spend 40-50% less time fulfilling orders and much more time responding to queries, especially clearing up confusion for any customers who have handed over money or even just think they have but haven't because of the odd shopping cart experience. Setting people at ease this way could actually garner them more long term support, including that from customer makers like Ken, even though it demands more patience from the customer (there'll always be a few over-eager customers that just can't help themselves and will badger them anyhow).
