Hey ! Frontsite/hideaway ????

They released a couple new production models, a black-coated claw and straight. They might be the answer to all the artists leaving. Still watching my size page, but not getting anything in my price range. I want a Utility still, but I feel if I order it the long way I'm never going to get it. Was thrilled when they started doing orders again, but now it seems so automated. I'm not going to wait another year for a smaller Utility, nor am I going to throw my money into a pit for an order that may come even later. Either throw me something in my size so I can have the robot send it to me, or at least update the site saying what models they aren't making. I know the page like the back of my hand now, the least they could do is explain the new system and what models are and aren't being made.

Hi Folks,

I wanted to follow up on my previous post regarding my dealings with Hideawayknife.com and whomever is at the end of the artemisweapons@yahoo.com, which is supposedly the new email for this company.

My order was for about $400 for the knife, trainer and other accessories. The owner of the company did not respond to any of my email inquiries, but did ship the order by the deadline I had given in my email (after which I had said I would regard the order as cancelled and ask my credit card company to reverse the charge).

The order arrived by first class mail and was complete and correct. The knife itself is lovely (it's a Ti with the Ice on Mars finish), the sheaths very high quality, and the owner tossed in the usual band-aid, rulers and a free paracord kit.

My sense is that Hideaway Knives is indeed back in the game. The owner is unresponsive to emails so customer service isn't what it might be, and I think the web site needs to be updated to reflect the current state of the company. However, the products are there as advertised, and they are shipped promptly.

I'm glad for this as, these are good products based on a neat idea. I think the whole blade community enjoyed hearing from the person who called herself "Frontsight," and I hope she will be okay whatever has befallen her.

Any update on the HAK company?
Have you recently purchased a HAK without any problems?
I'm looking to buy, but after doing some homework, I'm hesitant.

Any feedback would be appreciate.

Thanks,
S.R.

I'm also interested. It looks safe to buy now, things are even changing on the website. I still would like to hear from about any recent transactions.

I just recieved mine within four days of ordering. It came nicely packaged with extra paracord, zip ties, rulers, a band aid, and a mint. I ordered one that was already in stock. Don't know how long a custom would take.

S.C.,

Thank you VERY much for your feedback. The HAK folks have really fallen out of favor on a lot of knife boards, but I think it is with the custom knife community more than the HAK customer base.

Is there any sort of direct contact with these folks?

Phone number?

An email addy that gets responded to within 24 hours?

One other question, S.C., can you post some information about your experience with sizing? Specifically, did the size that you measure come in the package, and how close does it fit?

Sorry for so many questions, but I'm interested in the HAK product line but just a little bit leery of their business practices.

Thanks,
S.R.

I measured with an actual measuring tape several times with a relaxed hand, loosely clenched fist, and a tight fist and I picked a good median number. On the site, I chose a size that would fit without paracord, but the one that arrived came wrapped and is a little snug. I'm confident that if I took off paracord that it would fit better. It was a fortunate 'mistake' because I know it is the properly sized model and to my surprise, I kind of like having the paracord, plus I can always take it off.

My only concern with the actual product is that the sheath is so tight, it scuffs up the DLC coating. Oh, and its a pretty dull edge.

S.C.,

Can you tell me what specific sizes you measured and which one you finally ordered? These things aren't cheap, and I don't want to screw up the size.

And, I had heard that the most recent HAKs were coming in a little dull. They don't look like they are easy to sharpen either!

I think the DLC is going to get scuffed no matter what you do. It just part of the package.

Thanks,
S.R.

I just recieved an email from them and it seems they just got a bunch of 440c utility HAKs, but aren't laser etched and sharpened yet...apparently it'll take a few weeks.

Regarding size, just follow the directions on their site, you'll be fine. If you're that concerned, measure it slightly bigger and cord wrap as necessary. Anyway, something tells me that they don't really need your measurement to the one hundreths of an inch.

For the record, they did send the item to me super quick. I realized I wasn't completely content and emailed them regarding a replacement. I recieved a response about exchanging it within 12 hours. So far I'm very content with the service.

I don't know if I got lucky because its a holiday weekend, but I've been having no problems comminicating with them via email. I couldn't be happier with the service. For those on the fence, I would stick with whats in your size (obviously) in the "available now" section.

Also Cobb2000 was alwilliam sneaking back over the gunwale again. I'd rather discuss that in a thread of its own in the appropriate forum, though, so anybody who's interested can find it.

They do look hard to sharpen. I really wanted a curvy, partly for that reason but it doesn't look like they make it any longer. That's the only reason I don't own one yet, I wanted a curvy for picking apart pheasant and other small game and I can't find a descent runner up.

Just a heads up to those that were interested: utility and claw (440c) HAKs are back in stock. I just ordered a couple, I'll let those that are still skeptical when they come in.
