Hey Sal!!! When?? Knifeworks Ti/Carbon Fiber/S90V Military

I just bought one. Will be my first Military and first "super steel"
I have the dlc PM2 and love it.
I tried a ZT 0562cf and it did not quite sing to me.
I really, really liked the ti/cf on it so this Military was appealing.
I'm nervous about sharpening s90v. Probably going to get a KME sharpener.
Any tips as far as what grits to use would be appreciated or any other ins and outs for s90v.
Thanks

Sorry, I saw your post but my family was all consuming last night and I didn't have a chance to reply.

The fluted TI is still on closeout I believe. :) It is a beautiful piece and one of my most prized knives.

I have only had the CF/TI since friday and I have had the Fluted TI for two years. It may be too soon for me to pick a favorite. The CF/TI is a little lighter.

Haha, thanks for the reply! I shouldn’t be spending more money on knives at the moment, so maybe it’s good that I resisted the sale... I lean towards the KW one, and I think it will still be available in a few months, so I’ll wait for the next sale.

The Fluted TI is prettier IMO and has contoured scales but "only" S30V. I personally really like S30V and do not need the uber steels.

The TI/CF is lighter and has a more "premium" steel so in theory it is the higher performance knife. I also favor the frame lock over the liner lock.

I am not a huge fan of carbon fiber overall and am not overly swayed by the S90V. I guess it comes down to your preferences in regards to lock, weight, looks and steel choice. There is no wrong answer here though. :) I think my Cruwear Military is still my favorite. It is definitely my most used.

My Military came in yesterday and it is sweeter than I imagined. Being my first Military, I was thinking the size might be an issue......its not.

Only issue is that the action is pretty tight. I can spydie flick, but it takes considerable effort.
I contacted Spyderco and they said it needs some break in time, the frame lock pushing in on the blade, and the detent is a fixed ball, not a roller all contribute to the tight action.

My PM2 is a free fall and just unbelievably smooth. I've had it since May. Will the Military get that smooth, easy action over time?

Mine came in today as well. It is tight but I'm sure it will break in soon. Try not disassemble it or lube it or whatever. I used to like tweaking my folders even if they were brand new but gradually learned it is really unnecessary.

The smoothness of Military varies. My plain Jane s30v and kw cts-204p are super smooth out of box. My ti millie is also very smooth new. This kw s90v is not as smooth and pretty tight but again I have no doubt it will be smoother.

Also, there is no red loctite on these ones :)

Pretty excited about this new Spyderco pair :D

I've tried a few Militaries and they have never really clicked with me - I ended up selling them all. I thought they were just too big. But I'm really excited about carrying and using this one! Not sure why this one's different, it must be the frame lock. It gives it such a solid feeling. Also it is a perfect example - smooth opener and rock solid lockup!

So what did you do with your red g10 52100 PM2? Or did you take that blade from the BBS blue one?

I actually bought the CF scales on the exchange (from a 52100 pm2) and swapped it for red ones. I sold them for about what I paid for the CF pair and now have a CF M390 PM2 for about $150 all in :D

I see. I figured you did a blade swap, I was gonna offer to take it off your hands for you! :)

Since the knife is a sprint run could KW have ordered it with a tip up carry option? Or would spider or not allow that? I for one would love to see it.

A tip up Military would sell like hotcakes. I'm, frankly, surprised Spyderco has never offered a tip up version.

Mine came perfect from way back when I bought it. If someone is having issues with deployment a slightly looser pivot could help.

Also after time, it will wear in even more so. Mines even nicer now than it was when I bought it and it was great then. To be fare I have not adjusted my military at all.

I had to loosen the pivot on my pm2 way back when and I was then able to spydiflick it.
