HI Kerambit Design Thread

Spence,

Actually, I was thinking of this one:

Outlandish Hanshee Spence Himalayan Imports Tarwar !!

That seems more fitting of how this knife would be seen, right?!?

Mike - $ $ $

:D :p

design #4 as per Mike's suggestion:

1 - original design with short handle
2 - original design with integral loop
3 - more "straightened" design w/ less belly
4 - original curve, even less belly

Just thinking you guys had better decide what kind of temper you want on this thing and decide how to communicate that.

Otherwise, you may get the softer temper of a hasiya, however soft that is....

Number 3 looks like what I want. Nice, gentle, not too extreme curve, with just the right amount of belly to pack a more devastating punch over a traditional Kerambit and give it nice Khuk chopping capabilities...

Any false edge on that thing? Methinks chiruwa handle would be ideal, and an optional pommel spike or something like that would be nice...

1 - original design with short handle (chiruwa)

5 - straightened design w/ spike, chiruwa

All have false edge on top. Chiruwa style has been updated to show pins.

Need more input on the spike. Any others want it (or not want it)?

It's likely to be a problem when carrying it, right? Guess it depends on the sheath.

I agree. I'm not sure how we'd solve it. I just want to open it up to everyone to get more ideas. Perhaps someone has more experience with it...

I'm confused about all this kerambit business. These things are carried for personal protection/fighting with? Not me hoss, I tote one of these in my pocket.

Very nice!!

You gotta send me some more info on that lil' sweetie...

In the meantime, I should probably say that I hope no one intends on carrying this one...and especially not in your pocket...

:D:D:D

you could always just toss one of these in your pocket as well...

They have a special model of that derringer that's legal in Maryland: it's anodized International Orange and comes with a decoder ring.

Number 4 looks good to me. I don't care for the spike myself.

Dan,

What is it? My pockets usually don't need THAT much protection, but I'm curious.

No need to sharpen this rig Aardvark, it's like a Kodak, just point and click. You won't be shooting iron silhouettes at 100 yards with this one, but don't let anybody tell you derringers are worthless. I can put all my rounds "center mass" at 15 meters, and that's plenty good for "in your face" stuff.

Best of all the company that makes 'em is just a little over an hour drive up the road from me in Waco. An old west style derringer, made in Texas from high quality materials, how you going to beat that? And, you can get 'em chambered from .22 all the way up to .44 mag. Sweet:D

Only what Dan? $2,660  I can pick you up a good used American Derringer in .45 long Colt for around $300

The American Derringer site is very interesting, as well as their story. I'll bet one of those beauties loaded with their 000 buckshot shells would put a cramp in your style.

And speaking of beauties, the lady who runs the site is certainly one, though the word 'derringer' (small) does NOT come to mind when looking at her.

Pen:

I certainly want that to be the reaction of anyone potentially on the receiving end of it.

#1 is still my fave. I figure a curved chiruwa like that wouldn't be too difficult for the kamis. The could even make it without the bolster, if that would be simpler.

I'll pass on the spike.

...Lose the spiked pommel. That was just an idea... The ring-pommel will be solid enough for pommel strikes, right? What 'bout thickening the ring-section of the handle? Will that do anything?

Okie, okie, after looking again at the pics, I'd be happy with either 3 or 4...

A chiruwa #3 would be an OK comprimise for me.

Hibuke: I prefer a steel ring (i.e. the chiruwa handle) for pommel strikes. The the "integral loop" handles would have the ring made from the handle material - horn or wood - as I understand it.

The integral loop would probably the least work for the kamis, since they'd make a partial-tang blade. If that's the case, it would need to be pinned, IMO.
