Hinderer Skinnys

Gonna be a LONG time before we see the dedicated Skinny hardware bits me thinks.

Uggggh...thinking the same. At least this time around the only thing I want is the smooth CF scale. I know the smooth CF scale for the regular XM-18 will fit, but I want the skinny specific version to maintain handle thinness. Hope the wait time isn't going to be measured in years.

Wish I can be on site at DLT to check out all the finishes so as to pick the one that I like the most

I’ve held off on buying a hinderer since I got into knives. Decided to make this one my first.

Went with OD green scale and working finish.

I thought these would fly out of stock. I wonder if Dlt has more than we thought.

They seem to order pretty heavy on these exclusive runs from Hinderer. And $400+ knives always move slower than things like their PM2 runs which are sub $200.

But the more desirable (depending on your preference) configurations will soon start to run out, I expect. Some have already done so.

Had to go two tone. Anyone else nabbing one?

Ordered this model today!

My wife got home and asked my if I was going to use my bonus, I completely forgot about the quarterly bonus! I told her I could use some of it :p

Ordered an FDE working finish to match my 3" skinny. Looking forward to it!

Some of these should be showing up in mailboxes tomorrow yeah? Can’t wait to see some pictures! The Skinny 3.5 is the best damn folder in the world!!

My initial impressions are positive. First and foremost, I love the blade profile and the facts that this model is Choiless. The grinds are even and it’s razor sharp out of the box. Blade centering is spot on. The detent is strong and it flips as well as any Zt I’ve owned. There is some lock stick but it’s not a deal breaker for me. The stone washing is probably the nicest of any Hinderer that I own.

Compared to the standard model, The Skinny feels like a different knife to me. It feels secure in hand yet is more pocket friendly. I own 8 other Hinderer’s and the Skinny feels like a ZT 0562 in hand. The blade profile is similar to that model ZT too. I do find the Skinny to have a higher level of fit and finish compared to my 0562. In all honesty, I wish all my other XM-18’s were skinny’s. It still feels sturdy but this pony can run. The improved blade geometry is noticeable. Hopefully I can resist the upcoming DLC version.

yep. Welcome to the sickness. The skinnys are the Hinderers to have, as far as I'm concerned. Mine's out for delivery right now.

Gotta say, DLT has really nailed their swag game!

The knife is fantastic, everything is dialed perfectly...except the edge. How Hinderer cannot figure out how to make a knife this fantastically thin behind the edge sharp at the belly is beyond me. The flat section of the blade is decent, but the belly is straight up dull. Must be ground close to 30 degrees per side. I can set my thumb on the edge and push into it hard with no chance of cutting myself.

I can and will fix it on the Wicked Edge, of course. But Hinderer really does need to fix this part of their game. Some are coming with better edges from the factory now, but it’s still super inconsistent, and the bad ones are just really bad. No excuse for that level of fullness in a $400+ Knife.

That said, I love everything else about it, and once I correct, heal, and transform the factory edge, this guy will be perfect.

One of 'em needed a slight detent dial-in, now it's good.

Can you elaborate on the detent "dial-in". What did you do?

Mine is out for delivery. Should have it in my hands in about an hour.

DTL on instagram said yesterday:
We are working on an assortment of skinny specific hardware. the timing just didn't work out for it to be with this release.

There is no stonewashed blade with working finish handle in this DLT batch, correct?

Afraid not. I’ve always liked the idea of that configuration as well. Don’t see too many XMs with it, though. But it has been done a few times, I think.
