Hollywood - Knives worse enemy?

Your friend actually went through all of the paperwork, paid and waited for the about $4000 tax stamp, then spent the time and money to buy a legally transferable machine gun to hunt with ?
Talk about crazy.

No he said he bought an assault rifle not a machine gun, which would be illegal to hunt deer with anyway. An assault rifle is semi automatic, when used for hunting and the reason it was fitted with a 5 round mag was because the number of rounds are limited by law to hunt deer. Most all "assault rifles" sold over the counter are semi auto and require no "4000 dollars tax stamp." They're treated no differently by law than a semi auto Remington 30:06.

Since the most commonly used knife in assaults is a regular kitchen knife, can you say your santoku ISN'T a weapon? No, it doesn't have a real point, but that's not the point. If one knows how to use the edge, one doesn't necessarily NEED a point to carve a bad-guy like a Christmas ham. Intent, and technique, can be more important than design.

A scalpel can save a life or quarter a person. It all depends if user is a good doctor or a manic.

A rope can make life easier for people lifting weight, or they can hang another person. It all depends of user.

A shovel can dig prosperity or dig a pit.

A crowbar can leverage objects or open safes.

A hammer can build a building or torture a person.

What will they do? Ban ropes and trucks and pen and scarfs and brooms and what else?

Here in Brasil we live this dilemma.
Everything was taken from us.
We can carry just knifes and up to 10cm blade length. And it doesn’t make any difference because the thief don’t care about laws.

What I mean is, the bad guy can use anything to injury good guys just don’t guns, or blades. For me is a BS make laws that take from you the right to defense yourself and other and the right of freedom.

Im sorry if sound rude but is my opinion about some stupid laws as we have here.

Edit. Here we have a tv channel that always bit at the theme. If they say that sky is red many people will believe and applause. Some people can’t think by themselves.

Under the red sky the worst crime is defending yourself against an attacker. If you really cared about the poor marginalized people you would be proud when they rob you. Consider it direct charity. ;)

Not to nitpick, but as a firearms enthusiast, "assault rifle" means a fully automatic weapon that fires an intermediate cartridge.

You can't deer hunt with a fully auto rifle. He clearly meant a semi auto rifle.

In the United States "assault weapons" are usually defined in legislation as semi-automatic firearms that have certain features generally associated with military firearms, including assault rifles. The 1994 Federal Assault Weapons Ban, which expired on September 13, 2004, codified a definition of an assault weapon.

In the civilian world, 'assault weapon' is a made up term that has no bearing on reality. Liberals LOVE the term because it SOUNDS scary, and it LOOKS scary. Truth is, it's simply a magazine fed semi-auto. So is a Belgian Browning BAR(not the model 1918, but the hunting rifle).

This would not be an assault rifle, an assault rifle is a magazine fed select fire rifle chambered for an intermediate cartridge.
If this gun was an assault rifle it would be a machine gun.
What you're thinking of as the non existent " assault weapon " which is an inaccurate blanket term used by liberals in the media to demonize these semiautomatic rifles by likening them to assault rifles and create confusion between the two for the uninformed.

Firearms information is a good thing, and I believe everyone can always use more than they currently have.

Right, my point is the guy never bought a fully auto rifle to hunt deer with because it's illegal every where. Also it would make no sense to buy a fully auto rifle and then use only a 5 round mag.

That does not define assault rife, but "assault weapon" literally two different things.

The guy never bought a full auto rifle and used it to deer hunt. You should know that.

And you should know what an assault rifle is.
Im just speaking based on what you said.

Now back to the topic.
I think there may be some good with Hollywood and knives.
Without Hollywood many of us would not have been able to pretend survive in the backyard with our cheapo Rambo type survival knives from the flea market.
We wouldn't have wanted such knives and the Chinese, Japanese, and Taiwanese factories wouldn't have made them available to us for 10$.

Most people have no idea what the difference is between a 'machine gun', an 'automatic rifle', and 'semi-automatic sporting arms'. And trying to educate them on this subject is about as effective as trying to teach a cat how to drive. They won't believe the facts if you show it to them, because they've been told over and over that your AR-15 is a machine gun, which you can buy at any gun show with no paperwork.

Knives, guns, rental trucks, it makes no difference. People have been killing other people since the first person thumped another person's gourd with a rock. It ain't gonna end anytime soon. And worrying or whining about what is or isn't a weapon is an exercise in futility(or liberal dogma). Example? OK, here goes nothing: My 1911 spends every night about 1-1/2 ft from my head. It has never once turned itself around to point at me. It's an inanimate object. The CARTRIDGE in the chamber, a hollowpoint .45ACP, is chock full of POTENTIAL energy, but needs to be struck by the firing pin, which must be struck by the hammer, which can't fall until the sear releases, which can't happen until the trigger is pulled, which can't happen unless the thumb safety is disengaged, as well as the grip safety depressed, which requires the gun to be held properly by the operator. And while I have, on occasion been cut by a knife, it was always operator error.

My point is, regardless of whether we are talking about a gun, a knife, a hammer, or a pillow, THEY ALL REQUIRE A CONSCIOUS DECISION BY AN INDIVIDUAL TO BE USED AS A WEAPON, BEFORE THEY BECOME DANGEROUS. In other words, the person holding it is responsible for its use, whether as a tool, or a weapon. In OTHER words, the individual is the weapon, the OBJECT is simply a tool to facilitate the completion of a task(for good or evil) decided upon by that particular individual.

Well said, and actually pretty much said by most action movies based on the usage in said movies.
They never show objects acting for themselves, yet the proper message is rarely the takeaway.
The don't do anything that would lead intelligent people believe any objections is dangerous all by itself, but many people seem to act this way.

Um maybe , technically correct but I commonly see the term applied to all the various semi auto offshoots of military models . Also note the "AR" in "AR-15" .

AR stands for ARMALITE RIFLE, the company that Eugene Stoner was working for when he designed what would become the M-16. The AR-15 is a civilian-legal semi-automatic version of that particular weapon. Educate yourself.

Edited to add: Stoner actually designed a .308 Remington/7.62x51mm rifle, which was called the AR-10. Military brass had already decided that the new standard caliber for the US armed forces was going to be the 5.56x45 caliber, and Stoner RE-designed the AR-10 to work with this lower-powered cartridge, thus we have the M-16.
