We once put a wood burning stove inside an old bus... It got TOO hot with that thing going.

Hope that helps :D

Thought time.

Once the Becker kukri comes out and is freely available again, will any of us have an actual need for the BK9 anymore?

You really know insomnia has kicked in and made some changes when you start answering questions nobody asks in the middle of the night, then spending 10-15 minutes wondering what the question was...... Its really a strange thing... All of a sudden you say something like "well yea probably so" out loud.... but then dont even know why you said it... This spirals a thought process trying to figure out......

A: why you said that
B: what question you answered.
And C: who you were talking to.... This leads to more questions....Like what happens if aliens or spirits invade your mind and then screw up when they erase the evidence and so on.... :D

HAHAHA! I've been there! I remember seeing things that weren't there and hearing things too. But the weirdest was answering out loud to voices and not knowing what the question was. Really Weird!

Perhaps I should rephrase. Has anyone ever been in a tent, in the winter, that had a wood burning stove inside it?

I've slept in a canvas US Army GP-Medium tent in the winter in Germany during a REFORGER (you youngsters will have to Google that), but we used stoves that burned diesel fuel. A 5 gallon can would gravity feed from outside the tent and into the stove. It was a little tough to regulate temperature so that it wasn't too cold or too hot, and I suspect this may be an issue with a wood stove as well. With some tweaking, though, it was possible to find a setting that was comfortable. As long as someone made sure the diesel was full before the lights went out, it worked reasonably well. One other issue that you wouldn't have with a wood stove would be the outside temperature getting so cold that the diesel thickens and the gravity feed stops. The solution was to mix a small amount of gasoline into the diesel... We had one Warrant Officer that thought if a little was good, more would be better. I believe he burned down two tents in one week....

Hope this helps...if not, it's a good story anyway...

Thanks man. I'm more talking about a hiking tent though, like so: http://www.jesseshunting.com/forums/showthread.php/202834-My-UL-Tipi-and-home-made-wood-stove

Thats pretty cool. Like a tepee.

Yeah, that's the setup I'm wanting. The Kifarus are sweet, but I don't want to lay down a $1,000 for a tent. The Shangri La 5's are $300ish, I think $40 for a stove jack to sew in it, then make the stove. I would buy a Ti Goat stove pipe though.

Bentons-gasm is how it's done.

True dat.
Does hot tent mean share a tent with one or more good looking women? Cause I've done that.
Yeah, it's super hot after no one's bathed for a few days.

I am going off of an hour and a half of sleep and a pot of coffee an hour for the first 6 hours of today.... I can taste colors... Purple tastes like 4!
OK....so what is the number of your favorite color in the WHOLE alphabet?
So uhm, we still have to play against South-Korea today, but chances are very high we'll see Belgium-US in the 1/8 finals of the Fifa Football World Cup.
Pretty sure we're gonna beat you guys :D. We'll see the first of July though. Good luck fellas

This pic made me laugh so hard I saved it. Also a good laugh outta your prediction....who is this "we" you speak of? I didn't even know you were a pro footballer ;).

I think that is called "talking to Lefty" lol ;)

Want to meet for coffee?
Doh! Too late! I'll try to plan it better the next time
I want to do some winter camping, and ice fishing. I love winter.
Right on, brother! If you're going to have to live through it, it's best to enjoy living out in it. I think anyone who really likes winter does stuff outside in winter. The way I see it, it changes your whole outlook.
I'd love to try hot-tenting, but even without heat it's a life-affirming experience to wake up inside the frost coated interior of your tent, warm in your bag.

Well dern it all. I go to sleep for 6 hours and miss three pages of snark. I'm gonna write my congressmen!

Hell yes. Get out and enjoy that snow. The coldest out that I've been in a tent was 23°. Nothing nail biting, but chili. We were prepared for it though, so it wasn't that bad. I was watching a video on youTube, and it was in the 30's, and 76° inside the tent with a little Ti stove, haha. That's awesome. My cousin wants to go out somewhere, and build a small wigwam, and hang out in it in the winter. Sounds like a plan to me.

Picked up and Emberlit and tried it out based on Dubz use and reviews. Pretty sweet little stove.

I've camped out down into the low teens....had to double bag it and sleep with some clothes on. Still comfy, but it was chilly. Maybe it would have been warmer if we'd eaten chili. ;)

Yeah, a demented plan.....I mean, I love winter camping, but.....I also love hot showers when it's over.

I really like that I could just use twigs from around the yard.

That's the thing I love about it. Don't have to pack fuel. Don't get me wrong though, I still like my gas and alcohol stoves.

We sleep on an air mattress, ( at a campgrounds obviously) and pile a bunch of blankets on it, to keep the cold air in the mattress away. We put a few comforters/blankets on top of us, then my 0° sleeping bag over top of that. Wearing a stocking cap makes all the difference in the world too.

As far as the wigwam goes, you can build a fire in one. I think it sounds like fun.
