Took me a while to find these pics:
These are Golden Trout hybrids. Two distinct types here. These first three pics I didn't recognize as hybrid Goldens as I had caught quite a few before but they looked like the last two pics. I contacted Fish and Game with a pic and right away a State Fisheries biologist contacted me and explained that the differences had a lot to do with how much Golden an how much Rainbow was in each. He said a lot of it too, was based on location and how long the two species had to integrate. Interesting stuff. The one Nichole caught is a monster for these guys and like your natives the average is much more like the one I'm holding.

Got those knives all finished yesterday. Really looking good. Sharpening today and starting the sheaths. Might get some roping practice in if the hurricane winds we've had the last couple of days hold off.

That's really true. I've caught a lot of the pure Goldens over the years too but apparently it was before digital photography because I looked and I don't have any pics. I think we've talked about this before.you and I but won't hurt to discuss it again a lil. Use to horseback into an area in the Sierra known as Little Whitney Meadow. It's a gorgeous place and one of the homes of Golden Trout. Literally Golden Trout Creek flows through the meadow. It's a great place to horse camp because it's also a public pasture with several hundred acres fenced in. The fly fishing there was unbelievable. Just about any dry and as long as it was floating it was gonna get a strike. They would jump out of the water and grab the fly before it hit the water. Native Goldens aren't very big and 8 inches are getting on to being lunker size but they sure are fun and beautiful fish too. Catching one is on the bucket list for so many fly fishers. Problem is ya can't really drive up to pure Goldens. I know of one place and I ain't saying... but the hybrids more so. Lot more available. But also harder to catch as they are more educated.I’ve seen a wide range of markings in golden/rainbow hybrids. It makes it more interesting because you never know what you are going to pull out of the water.
Happy Birthday to Nichole. I am sure you have a great day planned.Great pics as always Pard!
Been working on the sheaths. I got the last three done with their tooling yesterday. No shop time today, it's Nichole's birthday. This pic is without the last three. as I still hadn't tooled them yet.

Happy Birthday Nicholeit's Nichole's birthday.
What a great Golden! I was at Guitar lake many years ago. What a great pic!I have seen trip reports of fishing in Miter Basin where they were getting five pound goldens.
Here's the biggest I have seen, this came out of Guitar Lake. It had been out of the water for a while and the color was faded by the time I got the picture.

Like Nichole's new boots. Sounds like a great birthday party. So I bought a new pair of boots for Nicole for her birthday. She has had a pair of these Solano Tall Tops for 15 years now. It was time for a new pair:

Funny story on her glasses there. Few months back she lost her glasses. We turned this house upside down looking for them. after a couple of weeks she went down to the eye Dr and got a new pair. We're cleaning up for her Bday bash a lil and Barb, (Nichole's mom who lives with us), is cleaning up the front patio. In one corner of the patio is an old cow skull. She picks it up to sweep behind it and there they are. How Nichole's glasses got under a cow skull in the front patio we still don't know and I'm sure we never will!
Here Nichole has one of each on. Her right foot has the original 15 year old boots and the left is the new one. The style and decorative stitching has changed a little on the new ones.

Both new ones and she's ready to ride. Here's our friend Tammy at the party. She was sporting her new Horsewright purse. Besides incorporating boot tops into this purse Nichole also made it so that it can display a trophy buckle of which Tammy has won many. Last year when Nichole won the Intermediate Stock Horse competition at the Skills, Tammy won the Novice category.

After the crowd had left Saturday nightwe did some smores. From left to right Nichole, Barb and Josh. Josh, our son, recently took a new job in Sacramento but had come home for mom's Bday. Our other son, Logan is a cowboy in OR and our daughter Ally is an ER nurse in ID so they weren't able to make it.
