How brand loyal are you to Spyderco?

I remember this thread from last year and I guess I didn't post in it.

I would rate my self a 6 or so. Most of my folders (and a few fixed blades) are Spyderco's, but I didn't buy them for that fact. I'm lucky enough to live close to a decent B&M, so I get to try a lot of the knives I buy before hand. The "design in the dark" theory must really work, because of all the knives I handle, Spydies always seem to fit my hand the best. I also love the fact that most of their knives avoid using the (IMO) dreaded bead blast finish.

The fact that the Spyderco staff really listens to their ELU's is icing on an already delicious cake.

9 or 10. I have purchased other knives before here and there, but I never got the bug like the Spyderco bug. I have eight now and growing. I'm just buying them cuz I like em. I am even buying second spare Spydies just in case something happens to my favorites. I'm keeping my eye out for designs I like and new upcoming releases. I have never done this with any kind of knife, electronic, videogame or anything. The only thing that would come remotely close is music, films, and literature, and gallery shows. For production items, Spydercos.

I'd say 9. Spyderco are really the only knives I'm interested in. I have a couple of Vic SAK Soldiers but I'm always looking to see what Spyderco are bringing out.

Having said that I haven't bought a new knife in over a year now so the habit is definetly tapering off.

I suppose Spyderco is the first company I turn to now, but I'm not going to pretend there aren't other manufactures making good products either. I'd say around a 5; I keep coming back, but don't know if I'll stay forever.

Well, for me it's not that simple.
You see, the very most of my knives are Spydies, and for a user a Spyderco is my first choice, but I am always interested in all the technological innovations other brands put into their knives. Some of them are pretty complicated. I can understand them better if I have the knife to analyze (and eventually dismantle) in front of me.
So do I buy other knives? Yes.
Do I actually use them? Well, yes, for a brief period of time, till I make an impression regarding the strengths and weaknesses of a particular design.
Do I EDC them? My Spydie works pretty good so far...

1 or 2 I'm not really loyal to any one company. That would limit me,& I don't like having limits on what I buy. There's too many great companies out there to limit yourself to one company.Benchmade,Kershaw,Buck,CRK(I've heard anyway,no personal experience),Boker,Shrade...& yes,Spyderco, just a few off the top of my head, are all excellent companies IMHO.

I'm not loyal to any knife manufacturer. I see so many I like that I fall into their trap and have Spyderco's, Kershaw's, Zero Tolerance's, Chris Reeve's, Benchmade's, Buck's, Case's, Scrapyard Dog's, Swamp Rat's, Gerber's, Bark River's, SOG's, Smith & Wesson's, Browning's, Strider's and others.

I'm not sure about my scale of loyalty but i do seem to be spending my cash mostly on Spydercos just now.
The only knives i have more of are EKIs, not sure for how long though ! There is a few Spydies im itching to get in to my collection :)

I hate Spyderco. I am old enough to remember when the Buck 110 was the only folding lockblade anybody carried. The magazines had ads for trick holsters and studs to make it open easier, etc. Then Spyderco came along and I bought an EnduraSE and a factory second policeSE. Boy was I happy.they were made out of G2 or Gin 1 steel and I got a triangle sharpmaker to keep them sharp. That was the first time I was able to consistently, without power tools, keep my knives razor sharp. My left arm is still bald and that was about1986 or 87 when I got them. Well then the honeymoon was over. Every couple of years they would improve something, better clips wider clips then steel clips and then better grades of blade steel. And I would have to buy new ones. And The Boye dent andthen right hand and left hand capabilities, So now I have to buy two at a time when I'm upgrading. I don't know if I can stand waiting for what's next. Little serrated lasers that you only have to think about what you want cut? Seriously though, from what I have seen on these forums,Sal Glesser is an outstanding human being and I am proud to carry an Endura or a Delica always in my pocket(always ,even in the gym). I see Thomas W on the Kershaw forums and understand that he use to work at spyderco,I can see where he gets his honour from. I think I am a 10 on the loyalty to spyderco even if there is a SAK in my left pocket, cause there is a spyder in the right pocket

I'm about a 5. I enjoy designs from other companies, but Spyderco is my all around favorite. Most of the time, there is a Spyderco in my pocket.

I guess I'm a "7" or "8" on your scale..... I have mostly Spydercos but I enjoy "quality" cutlery from other manufacturers as well ;):)

I'd be a 5 or 6, mainly because Sal & co. are so outstanding in listening to what their customers want and being willing to try new things - like the Mule team ~ ; - )

Seven or Eight for folders. It's not that I wave a flag, but Spyderco's are most of my favorites and I do take an interest in upcoming designs.

i own more kershaws; spyderco has way to many goofy designs with bizzare ergos. sorry sal.

i must say i disagree with everything this man said, other than that the designs are bizzare looking at times......the ergos are great due to the design though......kershaws use some crappy blade steels and the coating on their handles and blades leave alot to be desired...........as you can see i am prolly a 7, i own a few marqee design from other manufacturers but usually stick to the spyder

I didn't know Thomas W. had worked at Spyderco. They speak very well about each other in posts so it shouldn't surprise me. I thought they had worked on the Stryker but that was about it.

Thomas is a good guy and the guys at the Kershaw forum love him. He did me a personal kindness I'll never forget either.

No wonder Kershaw is doing so well.

From what I've seen there's a kind of camraderie in the business between people. Look at Sal's past and see some of the legends he's worked with. Now he's considered one of the legends and people are looking at him to see why he's been so not only successful, but respected and with an extremely loyal customer base. Joe

there is nothing wrong with kershaws steel, or the way its heat treated. i would guess they are up there with spyderco as far as quality is concerned, and without as many discontinued designs. most people wont require or want a hard to sharpen higher priced steel in a edc anyway.

Hey fellows, All good just different.

As to the question, I'm a 7-9 guy. I own or have owned practically every quality manufacturers and custom knifemakers goods. But, If you check my pocket, 95% of the time it's a Spyder. And it gets USED.

didn't say heat treating....its the coating they put on them that really irritates me

About a 5--- And that goes for any company....
There are too many companies with different designs and some knives that are just better.... however the spydy hole will never be beat...
