How brand loyal are you to Spyderco?

A year ago I was a 10. I would not even look at other brands, mostly because of the rumored bad ethics or poor quality of other knife companies. Since then I have decided that business is business, and I don't know the companies well enough to let ethics make my decision.

Now I am somewhere around a 5. If I want a round-hole opener, I get a spyderco. Otherwise, I go for what I like. I have 1 spyderco (D2 Millie), 1 benchmade (Rukus), 1 chris reeve (lg Sebenza), 1 busse (BATAC SE), and a few victorinox swiss army knives lying around.

As they say, all good just different. But if I had to choose one company to buy from, it would be spyderco. Sal and the team are great people who make and evolve great knives.

Hey Chocula, one year ago and you only ended up with one Spyderco?!!! I know it is one of the best spyderco knives (Military), but how did you end up with only one? :D

i am very loyal to Spyderco. i've gotten a chance to not only see that their product designs are often superior, but that the people behind the knives are superior as well. companies like this are in a drought in the USA and i plan on supporting them. that said, for other gadget roles, i support companies like victorinox, surefire, arc, and leatherman. they each do something really well.

for me, as a product design student, Spyderco knives are THE knife.

I am just looking for a knife that fits me (I am not a collector). I had tried a lot of spyderco knives and decided that the military is my favorite. Since then, I sold the extras and branched out. My ideal knife is between the rukus and the millie, but I haven't decided which I like more, so I plan to keep both for a while.

I got the sebenza because it has such a reputation, but it is not for me. I will leave it in a bag somewhere as a backup and sell it if needed. It is certainly a nice knife. :D

I'd say I'm about a 4. I don't own any Spydercos, Idon'treally care for them much. If they came out with a series of knives that better suited my tastes, I would buy them though. I am however loyal to Benchmade, Boker, Case, and Ka-bar.

I would say a 7.5-8.5 out of 10.
I own 6 emersons and some kershaws and zt's.Probibly 12 or so spydies.
I am getting more loyal as time goes on because they are using the best steel
and scales available today ie. cf and cpm s90v, zdp.:D:thumbup:And they have all different price ranges for everybody amazing quality and design for your dollar.Their mid range knives are better then most company's top line.;)

I think I would be a 9 :)

Since I found out about Spyderco a little over a year and a half ago I have only bought a few from the other brands. And that again only really the CLB design ones.

Big fan of the company that takes metal away in the shape of a round hole. Though it doesn't stop me still looking for that ever elusive 'perfect knife' if it exists. And even then it'll be most likely that Spyderco will be the one to invent it :p

Cheers
Dan

My first Spyderco tipped the scales to 5 for Spyderco and the CF Caly 3 & G-10 Byrd brought me to a 6. Why not higher? Because many of the best Spyderco products, the Kopa, the Dragonfly, and others are not lefty friendly, not by a long shot. I think the problem is having a G-10 Robin as my everyday carry makes appreciative of Spyderco and resentful at the same time. Is drilling a hole on the other side of a Kopa for the 15 percent of us or so that aren't right handed so difficult? I don't think so. I've got a limited budget for knives like most of us. So when lefty friendly knives go bye bye with Spyderco, I take my business elsewhere... Al Mar (bought a lw Hawk, love it)... BM 707 - in D2. The knife world looks very different to a left hander. And we at best populate 15 percent of the business. So our poker move/chess move may be different than a right hander. If I were right handed, I would be a 9. As a lefty, a 6. But being a 6 of 15% of the market won't get you very much.

I want to say I'm a 10 but that would'nt be realistic since I own about 35-40 knives. 13 of those which are Spyderco. The reason I want to say 10 is because my last 10 knife purchases have all been Spyderco. So I'm about an 8 and working my way up! I just can't get enough. I'm going to have to buy a Benchmade Rukus or Skirmish to break the streak. I'm loyal but not limited to Spyderco only. Another Benchmade is definitely on my next to buy list. Spyderco and Benchmade are simply outstanding.

I carry and buy mostly Spyderco, I'd say I'm a 9!

Few other brands interest me, and Spyderco just works for me.

I would say 5. The only Spyderco I have is the UKPK. I am not a collector and buy specifically to fit my needs. I do have an admiration for Sal and Spyderco though, great company and customer service.

I'd say I am a 7 and rising... I have gotten rid of pretty much all the other brand knives I had. Spydies, just appeal to me on all levels Price,Policy,Value,Design...

I'm about a 4 for Spydercos in general and about 7 for ZDP Spydercos. I sharpened a bunch of Spydies last night and am amazed at the scalpel like qualities of my CF Caly 3 and Blue D4. Amazing.

my first "nice" knife I ever had was a Delica. Since then I'd have 2 delicas, and a spyderfly.
they make great knives and have great service, but despite what they make, the other ones don't do anything else for me, so I can't say "I will ONLY buy spyderco"

I would day I'm a 8. I find it hard to beat a Spydie for function, ergos, and price. I have become spoiled with the round hole and now quite dislike a thumb stud.

Probably around 6, I'd say. I rotate my Pacifica (basically an H2 Endura) and my Blade-Tech Rijbak for my edc rotation. My Military should be here in a couple days, so I'll see how that fits in the rotation. Spydderco is a great company to support, as they fully support their products. The only other tactical folder company I buy from anymore is Benchmade, and thats only for Griptilians. I started out as a Cold Steel guy, as at the time they came w/ the sharpest edge from the factory out of all the other companies. That was when I was around 11 or 12. Since then (I'm 25 now), I've expanded my horizon past the Cold Steel Voyager, as that used to be the ONLY tactical folder I'd buy, as I wasn't too fond of Spyderco's round hole concept, but I guess it just grew on me. Tried to get into SOG, but I just can't stand the look of their folders. Bought a twitch 2 and returned it 4 days later. However I do love my Navy SEAL 2000 fixed blade. BTW, Rijbak's are being discontinued, and I have NEVER EVER been as pleased with a knife right out of the box as I was when I got mine. I highly encourage everyone to try one out, they have an even better warranty dept then Spydie's. They prided themselves on never having had a broken blade tip on a Rijbak, if that tells you anything about the sturdiness of the model.

I would put myself solidly in the 7-8 range. Unless its a slip joint or a fixed blade, its a spyderco for me. Having said that, I do own a couple kershaw folders and a couple buck folders that were given as gifts, so don't punish me for that.

I would say about a 4.

Spyderco has good quality and great durability, but they are lacking in variety. When I look at Spyderco products I ask myself, "So what small knife that you are never going to use are you going to blow $100 on. Oh, ok, this Centofante."

I wish they would exert their expertise on a truely mind blowing titan. For example, a survival/combat fixed blade with a meaty 5/16" spine in a carbon steel or N690, like a Trail-Master, only with the recurve and slab construction of a Forester. Then they could add a dash of MACHO and crunch the price so I would not kill myself with a sautering iron if I damage the knife. Honestly, those Foresters are purely collectible if you are smart. Do you offroad in a Ferrari? Same Italian beauty, only sharp.

5 sounds balanced. I am not loyal to one brand, but to a flexible group of preferred brands that my current and always evolving tastes and wallet prefer. For me in no particular order, Spyderco, Kershaw, Benchmade, SOG, and Cold Steel have seemed to consistently produce certain models that meet what I am looking for in design and quality for what I use a knife for. There are lots of knives I don't have any experience with that I would like to try, Schatt & Morgan, William Henry to name a few. With all the great options out there changing over time, I would feel too limited sticking to only one brand. So many knives, so little time, and too little cash.
