How do you carry your slipjoints?

Hey now . . . I'm talking about my WEDDING RING. I think that gives me VIP status on my man card. :D;)

My wedding ring is tungsten carbide, so as long as I don't fill my pockets with diamonds and shove my hand in, it won't get scratched :D

I think I must have deep watch pockets on my jeans, most slipjoints will fit in there. I carry one medium sized knife in the watch pocket (a barlow today) and a peanut in the pocket below, along with my keys, lighter, change and bills. Don't carry a wallet most of the time.
The left pocket is just for my phone, and it looks brand new after two years of ownership!

I just throw mine in the pocket. Usually that is the right front pocket, but depending on what I'm wearing or carrying, that is subject to change. If I have change, it is in there right along with the knife. My key is there as well. I don't have any high-end knives, and unfortunately have no customs, so I don't worry about character being acquired on my knives.

Lol sorry Brad that sucks and I'm sure you were furious but that image just cracked me up...only because of the look I'm sure I would have had on my face had it been me. Right front pocket for all my slipjoints, unless I'm carrying a small one that will fit in my watch pocket.

Nathan

Nathan, I only wish it had been captured on video! I went the full range of emotions in about 1 minute.

To elaborate - Right front pocket and if I carry my leather wallet that goes in above it. Nothing else goes in the pocket. I am okay with character but I can't help but feeling like I am being neglectful by putting change and keys in the same pocket. The same way I won't put a knife or keys in the same pocket as a 1000 dollar cell phone just to watch it scratch up the screen. I don't baby my stuff but I don't go doing things I know will prematurely wear them out.

I bought a tungsten ring because somebody told me that but, it scratched. And I promise I didn't dip it in diamonds. Not nearly as much as my gold band but it has a few scratches. And it was heavy.

Slipjoint or small knife (SBJ or Cadet atm) and cell phone in left front, keys, change (what little there is), and clipped knife (G-10 E4) in right pocket. It is to be carried, it is to be used and aquire the marks therewithin. I don't abuse stuff, but I also use things as designed.

I've been using a benchmade soft pouch for a while, one of those givted with the pirchase of a BM knife, they work fine
have to find something better though

In my pocket nekkid - as God intended. :D I keep change in my left front pocket and my knife in my right front pocket - but keys and whatever will wind up with the knife. A proper traditional slipjoint is made of durable materials with no delicate finishes -- I don't buy 'em if they're not made that way -- they're not going to wear out with just some keys in the same pocket with them. A knife that's carried and actually used with soon pick up a few marks regardless -- get used to it and enjoy it.

I like how honest and frank everyone is here, and the fact that most of you folks just drop your knife into your pocket(s). I find it refreshing to hear that, despite there being a few different carry options, the traditional way of carrying a traditional knife hasn't gone by the wayside.

For my backpocket knife, I carry it in the same backpocket as my wallet. I have a bi-fold wallet and I let the spine of the blade sit between the 2 wallet folds and it holds it up vertically and doesn't slide around in my pocket.

for all of the knives I carry in my front pocket, I just throw them in there with whatever. If I'm going to carry it, that means it's probably beat up anyways so I'm not bothered by it getting all scratched up by coins/keys and such.

I carry mine in my watch pocket where my R. Bose Lanny's is riding right now. I can't even feel it there. ;)

I have a question for those of you that carry your knives in the pocket with loose change.

Does it bother you that dimes and sometimes pennies get stuck between the blades? Do you find yourself having to remove them before using the knife?

The reason I ask is because this used to happen to me and I found it very annoying.

Most times I'm so broke I can't rub two dimes together much less get one stuck in my folder but on the occasion this does happen I just pull it out and open the knife, it's not like I gotta whip out my Stockman and open it in a hurry, it's a casual thing and sometimes it happens. ;)

Yup, that's why I stopped carring a canoe (my favorite pattern at the time) in that way.
As I mentioned above, it's always a peanut in the change pocket now, and I think it's just too small for that to happen.

Lol ok, I just tried shoving a dime into various places on my peanut :D
It did fit in a few nooks and crannies, so I guess it's theoretically possible, but it hasn't happened in practice so far.

Yeah, mine is very heavy too, but I've been wearing it for two years now and it still looks brand new, no scratches whatsoever. It's been scraped on concrete every day too (I don't smoke in the house, so I sit on the concrete steps outside).
Maybe yours was tungsten and mine is tungsten carbide?

Sorry, this was completely off topic, back to carrying knives :D

When I carry mine, I just drop them into my pocket. However, that usually leads to lint and such getting into the crevices. That is not a big deal to me as I can easily just blow lint out, but I also have to be more vigilant about not putting coins, keys, and other such items into my pocket as well. Sometimes that is an inconvenience, and sometimes it's just plain hard to remember not to do that given that my slippies tend to "disappear" in my pocket in the first place.

So, do you guys carry traditional knives only in your pockets, only in some kind of belt sheath/pouch, a little of both depending on the knife, or something completely different?

Like you, just a pocket guy.

In the right front pocket with any change, keys in the left front. Knives are tools and they get used & scratched all the time. I do however keep them clean and oiled every few days. (love carbon steel).

I will consciously put my knife in a pocket by itself, the left front one. But, stuff happens and other stuff gets in there with it often enough. I really don't worry about it; like has been said anything that gets used on a regular basis is going to eventually get some wear from pocket companions, the environment, what it is cutting. Ed J
