How do you carry your slipjoints?

Smaller knives (peanuts, pens, Secretary) get carried in my watch pocket. Anything else goes in my left front pocket along with my keys, loose change, chapstick, what-have-you.

I see a lot of guys carrying in the front pocket and far fewer carrying in their back pocket. As an aside, has anyone ever lost a knife carrying it in their back pocket? It seems to me that it would be easier to lose a knife in your back pocket versus your front pocket, but hey, what do I know??? That's why I'm asking! :o

That's what I'm inclined to believe as well. Ironically I was carrying a knife in my right front pocket in some dress slacks, sat down in my car and it just slipped right out and down the crack of my seat. I didn't notice it until I went inside and didn't feel the knife in my pocket. So I guess it depends on the pants.

I like my stuff to last.

Do you think men a century or more ago ever had this conversation?

Keys and change are not going to wear out your knife.

I carry mine in my pocket with whatever. If it's in my pocket, it's a user, and users are going to get far more worn from use (and I don't mean only opening mail and boxes) than from riding in a pocket.

Yep, happens all the time if your car is low.

Change always falls out of my pocket down my car seats, I dont even carry change or anything in my front pockets for this reason...even on my leather couch money falls into it all the time...

Trying the "Peanut Challenge" I only carry the little "Yella Fella" .
Watch pocket for easy access and nothing else comes in that pocket.
When I wear sweats its right front pocket with bandana .

Straight into the pocket for mine, though I do try to keep it separate from my keys.

With the exception of Bruce Bump #27, all of my slip joints go straight into my pocket. If a watch pocket is available and I'm carrying a knife that will fit without protruding, the knife goes into the watch pocket. If I'm wearing slacks with a change pocket sewn inside, the knife goes into that pocket. Otherwise, it is straight into the right front pocket along with keys and wallet (that includes a steel money clamp).

BB#27 gets a little more protection. On the way into work, it goes into a KSF pocket slip. I am an Engineer with a desk job, so my knives lead a fairly sheltered existence while I am at work. As such, the keys and wallet exit the pocket as does the pocket slip. I've found that knives still get little scratches on the bolsters and shield even when in the pocket slip. I've also found that having a knife in a pocket slip makes me less hesitant to get it out and use it than if it were in my pocket alone. Regardless, the use of a pocket slip has helped me get past the initial anxiety of carrying a really nice, custom slip joint. Eventually, BB#27 will make it into the pocket without it all the time.

Even though I am right-handed, I put my knife in my left front pocket. Odd, I am sure. But I open the blades with my right hand, so I am usually holding the knife, when opening with my left hand. After some thought, I moved the knife from my right front pocket to my left front pocket. It seems to save me some fiddling time.

This comes up about once or twice a year it seems...I'm still using this method...it's been working for me and I haven't had any new holes in my pockets to speak of.

Ron also makes these with a center stitching
It keeps thinner knives like my Canal Streel 1/2 Moon upright
And it pushes the knife to one side so it is more comfortable for sitting

99% of my time I carry my knives in a belt pouch
I do not carry anything in my pockets except a bandana in my back pocket and once in a while a back-pocket pouch from Ron
And I loose knives in my front pocket
So pouches it is....

Victorinex makes some nice leather pouches that have a belt clip, they are good for 3 5/8th" knives
Their nylon pouches are good also as the velcro top is wide and take a range of knives from 3 1/2" to 4"

REI make some good nylon pouches that will sit vertically or horizontally

Marttiini make some very nice brown horizontal leather pouches and horizontal in nylon

And there are the simple $4 leather in brown or black, small up to 3 5/8" when soft and medium 4 1/4" and large 5"+ and then the simple $2 nylon pouches

It definitely depends on the pocket type. If I wear gym shorts and get into my mustang I just put my knife in my cup holder to avoid finding it on the floor later.

My brother and my father are not really knife people but I have gifted them both a few. I have given my brother a sebenza and a busse and he just carries them. Has taken and used them all over the world in the field. He has no special care for the sebenza like some in here. Just does whatever and tosses it wherever. Its one of the coolest looking knives I have seen loaded with character. I never try to lecture him to carry it as I would my own either. It is his to do with as he likes.

My father I have given a few. Recently a GEC 54 stag and he just tosses it in his pocket with whatever. Never once have I criticized him or tried to tell him differently.

A funny story, I was taking my grandmother in her 90's to the doctors. She is one of my best friends and a sweet lady. My grandfather (her husband) was my best friend before he passed. I always take her puppy along because she doesn't like to leave her home.

We stopped at a local pet shop to get her a new collar. The type of clasp came up and her reasoning of taking the collar off the dog inside came up. The pet store owner seemed upset and almost engaged my grandmother in a friendly debate. Worrying of course about the well being of the dog. I kind of cut it short and told the man she has been doing it for years and you know what they say about old habits...plus it doesn't really matter if it makes her happy. He laughed and my grandmother, the puppy and myself went happily on our way.

I guess what I'm trying to say is everyone does things a certain way and its certainly nothing to worry over.

I admit I usually use a pouch when carrying knives that are more than 3" closed. I just can't stand when they fall horizontally. Usually a peanut or smaller knife in left pocket and a main knife in the right pocket, or just one in the right pocket. I wear slacks to my desk job so they really stick out when they fall over. If in jeans or slacks with a coin pocket then the knife is usually naked. My peanuts and the like I don't have a problem if they fall over so I don't use pouches for them.

One thing to note, I've gotten... better... about using my higher end production knives and customs and pouches have helped me there. Carrying in the pouch the knives are more protected so I don't feel hesitant to carry it. If I'm carrying it, I'll use it. In carrying and using the knives, I've started to care less and less about the small scratches you get.

Also, riding in crowded NYC subways means nothing in my back pockets so everything is in my front pockets. If this were not the case then I'd probably carry it naked in my back pocket next to my wallet.

Kevin, I love the look of well used titanium slabs as well:thumbup: Its why I bought my sebbie used in the first place ;)

I always just drop the into my pocket. But I sometimes wear shorts during the summertime and when sitting down the knife wants to fall out. It's not a big deal, I just have to be conscious to not loose my knife.

My traditionals go in my right front pocket with my keys. I tend to put change in my watch pocket just to keep too much out of my front pocket. Only a few custom knives but they get carried the same way.

I drop it into my left front pocket and go. I try to never drop nothing on it change etc. but it happens every now and again. I just cringe get it out and move on. My SAK rides in cargo pocket, watch pocket or a little SAK leather sheath.

I drop my factory knives in my right pocket, even if keys, change, or a clipped knife is there.

I only have two customs. I carry my KHnutbuster in my left pocket with no keys or change. I carry my Menefee swayback in my watch/change pocket.

I wear scrubs to work so I carry front right scrub shirt pocket (usually GEC stag Executive Whittler, otherwise a small stockman or such). With my biology degree I'm not worried about what gets in my pocket as the people I touch are much dirtier than the detritus falling into my pocket! Users won't get hurt normally, and I've carried a mop peanut that looks well after being my good luck knife during tests in 2 university programs.

The mission wallet is perfect for slippies. Bills Urban wallet is another good example although not in leather
