How do you store your traditional knives

Valuable/special knives - sack-ups roll, kept in a safe.
Beater knives - neglected and abused. thrown together in an old cigar box on my dresser or probably missing under the couch.

Thankfully my collection is nice and small, doesn't require much:

Is there any benefit to retaining the boxes or tubes when it comes to getting the best sale or trade value on the knives you cull?

Has anyone that uses a case like pictured below, have you had or heard of any issues of the knives getting marked up or stained by the elastic straps?

I have a drawer in the closet that holds most of my folders. Ones that i don't carry, but can't seem to part with are in tubes or boxes stacked in another part of the closet. I keep most of the customs in separate pouches on one side and have lined the drawer with felt so they would all be comfy. Looking at this picture, i think i need to put a couple of these in tube or do a GAW as i see three i haven't rotated in some time.
All the fixed blades are lined up on a shelf above the drawer. I will probably have to expand at some point.

Looks like we got us a hoarder .:p

Im reminded of Scrooge McDuck for some strange reason.:D

It hasn't QUITE got that bad here at Grumble Towers (only about 30 slipjoints on the coffee table tonight :o) :D The TSA on the other hand, have a bigger collection, and take considerably less care of them :(

This past Christmas, my wife got me a lovely machinist's tool chest for knife storage. I removed the lid to make it easier to get at the top tray, and have used it ever since. I love it. :)

I toss the contents of my pockets into the tray on top, which generally includes whatever knife I'm currently carrying (in this case, a GEC #47 stainless Viper):

The rest of my collection lives in the drawers:

My collection is small! This chest gives me plenty of room to grow. I'm using the two medium drawers on the left, two of the three small drawers on the right, and have one larger knife in one of the big bottom drawers. Just in the few drawers I am using, there's room to double or triple the number of knives in each one -- and that's not even considering all the empty drawers.

All of the drawers are lined with felt. The cover on the front is held shut with magnets, and swings down and slides under the drawers (it's the felt-covered surface you can see in the second photo), leaving exposed a rather handy ruler which I often use to measure and compare knives.

There are no brand markings, and I don't remember what was on the box it came in (I was too excited about getting the chest out!).

Great-looking tool chest, very classy

I'd be interested as well in any thoughts others might have on these cases. Thanks
