Bad How I got $700 stolen from me (CaptainFuzzy / TacticalEdge8541)

I strongly encourage all who were affected to contact the McHenry County Sheriffs office. They have been very receptive and have already followed up with me regarding my call and the actions that they are/will be taking. They also made me aware that, as of noon today, I am the only individual who has contacted them. Get on the phone folks.
PMed you!

I really hate to see this and hope everyone get a knife or their knives back. That being said I keep hearing thought I was safe seller had good trader rating. Yep she had good trader rating but there are other things to look for like she's only been a member here since 7/29/17 really new member. By that I mean 3 months new and 11 good reviews doesn't really speak for the person. You need to look into post areas, posts, etc etc. when you are trading you have to really protect yourself if a person dosent contribute here other then sales and wants or demands a lot and you to send first big red flag. 3 months minimum contribution other then sales big red flag. Just my 2 cents and agian I hope everyone is made right.
Sadly, it's pretty easy to build up a decent sized amount of feedback on low-priced knives to set up a bigger scam. Seems that's what happened here. :(
Yep, this pattern of behavior is common in credit card fraud. It's called a "bust-out" scam. You basically quickly establish a small but clean credit history then initiate a bunch of frauds all at once. By the time the credit history reflects the first fraud, all the others have already taken place.

Wow, just wow. It doesn't take long to get a + rep and maybe that's the thing, when it doesn't seem to take long, something's gotta be wrong.

for those that have lost directly, but the harm it does to the BF community as a whole

This may make it tough for the flippers, the day of the quick sale may be a thing of the past. What's the answer, 3rd party escrow accounts mediated by a BF tribunal of elders. EBay and Craigslist are seething with the worst of the worst so you figure you come here and it's safe, it's not and that's a shame . The same common sense that applies on those places apply here and maybe doubly so because we can become complacent and comfortable with the people we share our knives with everyday and afford them a greater level of trust here.

Is it possible to be too big, there are groups who know and T/B/S comfortably within the community with other members who've gained their trust. The problem is the people who show up and just seem too good to be true, with a deal that's really good, not so good as to be suspicious. Still good enough that you're willing to risk a little more than usual and hey, let's face it, you don't wanna miss what might be a great deal.

I wish you all the best outcome but this one's not lookin' good outta the gate.

I am a victim of CaptainFuzzy, too. Purchased a Protech TR3-SWAT on 10/22/17. My bad mistake, I paid via PayPal as a "Gift" because my lower offer was accepted. Really should have been more suspicious when CaptainFuzzy apologized for not getting back to me sooner because he was at a church seminar. And, he emailed me again when it took me over an hour to check my email to see if I still wanted the knife. I paid $ 100.00 bucks to CaptainFuzzy. This is the first time is 18 years of online buying and selling that I got screwed. Just didn't expect it on Bladeforums.com, and his feedback was very good. Did not take notice that he'd only been a member since July 2017, until I became suspicious of his silence. Very disappointing. I could afford to lose $ 100.00, but it's still a loss, and I don't like being played. I really feel for the other members that lost much more. I don't think more time needs to pass to give CaptainFuzzy a chance to respond to these allegations. It is a pretty clear pattern here of deception and deceit on the part of CaptainFuzzy. The Moderator should take immediate action and pull the plug on CaptainFuzzy before more members fall victim to his evil ways.

You have the number? I'll go ahead and make that call.

Will people ever listen? - never use paypal gift (it's been said here 1000 times). You have no recourse and you are cheating PP. Yet, people keep going it. ???

I hope this guy pays the price for his actions; sounds like he is a big time scammer.

Just called in. Time for step town their process. Hopefully they catch him and give him the hammer. Ideally I would hope we all get our knives or money back. I'm hoping for the best but at this point I would just be happy that they catch him.

It might be worth compiling a public list of what has been stolen and requesting a sticky of items to lookout for. It's possible he has a local fence, or is bulk shipping abroad- but its also possible he'd try to sell them back on the forums under another alias. ? If he sold one knife 20 times, he or his fence are probably greedy enough to try and sell the stolen inventory in a collector's arena like BF.

Sorry folks. I've got my fingers crossed for ya'.

I have a list it has four people on it so far contact me if you want to be put down on the list if you were scammed and I’ll send you a Copy

Barmettlerjosh@gmail.com to get a copy/be put on the list

I sure hope everyone that is out a knife or money is made whole by the end of this story. Hope banding together brings enough attention that the people that can fix it take notice.

We need to compile a list of knives that he's received (not knives that he's offered for trade that he might not have or might not even exist) so we can keep an eye on eBay, Instagram, Craigslist, etc. Pictures too, if the victims have them. Maybe he's a collector and will keep all the knives he's scammed, but maybe he'll try to sell and profit from them instead.

If you guys call in, after talking to them they are requesting an email with exactly what happened, the knives, values, everything, they are compiling the ultimate file on this dirt bag... just do the part. Also they must be a small place because all I said was Im calling about this guy who and they cut me off and said "Falldorf?" LMAO

I’ve already made a list of everything he’s gotten and who offered it if people contact me and tell me what they lost they will be added to the list I have four people on it so far
