At last count which I just did to keep the dog from chewing them I have 100 and with the exception of 2 - buck 110's, 2 - 112's and 2 - schrade 70T all are different styles. I grew up in the everyday pocket knife days and since the 70's have loved and enjoyed owning, using and cherishing special knives. Both my daughters each in their 20's are already trying to decide how to split them and with two grandsons I hope to pass on my fondness of knives. Since both grandsons are little boys I already gave both girls colonial hobo knives that they keep in their purses just in case they need a spoon or fork for the little ones. After 25 years as a correctional officer I jokingly considered myself a professional knife hunter, looking for shanks and such and now I consider myself after retirement as a knife rescuer. So hoarder no, nut maybe, but as long as my wife of 30 years does not complain, I am good to go.

You can get a pretty sweet custom for not much more than a CRK. John W. Smith's knives are perfection and usually under $700 easy.

There are lots of custom knives sold right here on the forums in the $100-$300 range. So the question could be, "Two or three custom knives by respected forum makers, or a single CRK."

The answer, there is no right answer.

Thanks for that.:D I got enough on my mind and now I'm googling John W Smith. Oh boy.

Edit: He makes nice knives, but not my style.

This is why I should not spend my free time cruising the forums. I'm spending money I have not made yet.

Most of the knives I make are in that range... like this Pikal.

I'd be ashamed to count. Some things are better left to the imagination.

Its all relative. Who's sicker? The guy who owns 100 $40 knives, the guy who owns 20 $200 knives, the guy who owns 4 $1000 knives or the guy who owns one $4000 knife?

I don't know. You'd have to ask their therapists. ;)

I currently own 13 knives as of now. Kershaw Skyline, Thermite, Leek, Zero Tolerance 0770cf, 0560, 0562, Spyderco Tenacious, Paramilitary 2, Cold Steel Voyager XL, Ti Lite XL, Victorinox Alox Cadet, Benchmade 940 Axis, Mini Griptillian.

6 users, and 2 retired Gerbers. They've been used and abused. I'm not sure how safe they are, so I no longer use them. I'll cap the users at 10. Number 7 arrives tomorrow though.

5 fixed blades, 4 Busses and a mora
3 folders, a hinderer xm18 and two victorinox SAKs
1 axe, a gransfors bruks hunter
1 multitool, leatherman super tool 300

10 total for me

A gentleman never tells!

Plus, with no wife/gf to keep my purchases in check, I am limited only by my own self control, which can be on occasion, shall we say....spotty? As others have said though, there are worse ways to spend money, at least blades can be concretely enjoyed in the long term, and even hold (at least some) value.

Always have less then 10.
Always users.
Always tell myself I don't anymore then 1.
Always living a lie.

As some have alluded, the longer you've been around collecting, the more you have had a chance to acquire.

I was given my first in September 1960. Still have it.
I've bought, found and been given knives by friends, relatives and strangers.
I've lost a few, busted a couple, sold some, given away a whole bunch, with a accumulation of over 1600 but less than 2000, excluding kitchen and farm use knives. They range from folders with 1" blades to swords and cutlasses. About 300+ sitting in a couple of tubs that are marked "To Be Sold", knives that came in batches that don't match what I like to use or collect. I also have about 200 "collection" duplicates that will eventually find new homes.

It's been 2788 weeks since I got the first one. That works out to an RCH over 0.71 knives per week.

I'll buy a box of knives at garage sales, estate sales and off fleabay because I want 1 or 2 in the grouping and eventually sell off or give away the rest. The most I ever bought at one time was a box of 60+ for $50 because I wanted a single knife, a WW2 Case XX 337-Q-6. Kept that 1, and gave away or sold most of the rest for about $120.

All counted, I have between 50 and 100.

I have 60 Zero Tolerance so far; if my count is correct there are 118 current production and discontinued knives in the ZT catalog so I'm halfway there.

A few I don't ever expect to find, specifically the 0801FDE, but I'm hunting for it all the same. I don't care if I ever find one, the hunt is the best part of collecting.

I have a box that holds 12 knives. I enjoy the challenge of trying to not have anything else besides those 12. Makes for interesting decisions.

I'm in the same boat as this guy. Although there's a shelf under my storage box that holds a half-dozen odd overflow knives. 😁
