How many of you EDC an expensive ($300-$400 and up) Knife

I have carried/used $2000+ one off Darrel Ralph customs for months at a time. I'm currently carrying a $200 Spyderco Tatanka because it waves better. I own 3 tactical folders.

I only own one watch ($12,050) and one flashlight ($360) and they are constantly on me.

Yes. Mainly a large micarta insingo and on occasion a halo v. Although I may not use all the knifes that I buy. I have the mind set of no safe queens; I'm buying w/ the intention of using.

I regularly have at least one folder that's at least $300. Most days, I'll have about $800-1k worth in my pockets and I just use them whenever I need a blade. However, I will be more hesitant with the more artsy ones when it comes to certain tasks.

I EDC a small Starbenza and use it all the time. I wear dress pants almost every day so it is an appropriate size and weight, and looks damn good.

Hey, guys. I don't want to sound impudent here; but comparing pistols, cell phones and EDC knives, is a bit like apples vs. oranges. It's a given that you can't buy a Glock or cell phone for even $100, but, many good folders and fixed blades can be had for about that, or less. This of course, in keeping within the context of EDC. My point is this; Is a $300 knife 6 times better than a $50 knife for any task in EDC? For EDC you want utility, and functionality, so a good $50 knife is fine with me. Now, I understand the more expensive knife might be, to a certain extent, better made, have higher quality steel, etc., but I would rather break or lose a $50 knife than a $300 one. Having said all this, if I faced a real life or death situation, I wouldn't care what a knife cost. But for EDC, the less expensive ones are good for me. Just my humble opinions.

A better comparison would be automobiles. A Honda costs 1/2 the price of a BMW (or less) and gets you to the same place just as reliably (if not more). A $300 knife would be like a BMW or maybe even a Mercedes or Porsche. But certainly not a Lamborghini.

Plenty of regular middle-class people drive all of the above except the Lambo.

Been carrying around my 0454 a lot since I got it. It's certainly built to handle being more than just a showpiece. :)

All of these plus the new Ruby and a Hinderer xm-18 are not a work carry knives. Regular production knives I carry at work. Including the new 620cf.

Makes me happy :)

+1. This is why we do it. [Though budget knives make me happy too].

This. Exactly. All knives cut stuff. The only real difference is in the emotions they evoke.

Have carried everything from a rat 2 to CRKs and currently EDC my newest addition, a small Sebenza CF that cost me $540 (knife, shipping, taxes etc. I live in Canada and bought it brand new from knife art).

The only thing I buy to only look at is a TV! :)

Most days you'll find me with a tanto large 21 micarta and a titanium benchmade 51

On flashy days, a large Damascus cgg 21, and brs alpha beast, with a Tain nova Damascus. ($700 flashlight)

Working hard for my toys, I couldn't see having safe queens

They didn't go for that originally, bought I bought my TiLT for $550, and I carry it regularly

If we're playing that game then I'd rather break a $10 phone than a $400 smart phone. Plus, when faced with a real life or death emergency, I wouldn't care what a phone cost as long as it could dial 911. That $10 phone from the grocery store will save your life as good as the $400 one.
