How many of you EDC an expensive ($300-$400 and up) Knife

Why own a blade you won't use? All mine are carried.
Because... this is AMERICA. You want to live in North Korea?? YOU can live in North Korea. I don't. I want to live in America.

j/k, though I am sincerely interested about your taste in art.

I carry CRK, Strider, Brous all the time. However, I do get a little anxious when I carry my rockstead.

I have a few CRK's that I carry every day. I have a few Alan Davis customs that I carry too.

If I bought it I will use it and carry it. Sometimes I have second thoughts and can't bring myself to carry for whatever reasons (too precious, too big/intimidating are the top two reasons that have stopped me). In those cases I inevitably sell them. I don't buy them to put in a safe and fondle once a month. Current EDC favorite is a Whale Shark. Doesn't have to be expensive either - another favorite is a Spyderco Yojimbo 2.

If you decided to "safe queen" a knife for whatever price range or rationale, that's fine, to each his own. Some may carry more expensive knives as pocket jewelry and others may actually use them, that's okay too, what ever one wants to do or how much you want to spend that is the beauty of our knife passion.

I've posted this picture on another thread, however here is one of my daily users on our farm.

I carry and use my Striders and CRKs. I would hate to lose one but, I enjoy them way too much to only enjoy them at home.

All of these plus the new Ruby and a Hinderer xm-18 are not a work carry knives. Regular production knives I carry at work. Including the new 620cf.

Looks like you really been using that max. The broke in finish looks awesome! How's the edge retention been?

No $300-400 knives here. No smart phone either, although I'll probably be forced to get one soon since that's the direction the world is forcing me to go (kicking, screaming and cussing all the way).

I love knives but in no way am I willing to buy an expensive knife as a status symbol when a less expensive knife cuts all I need cutting. The most I've ever spent on a knife was around $150. To me, that was excessive but I can still carry the knife without worrying about loss, theft or breakage.

I enjoy carrying the expensive knives I buy. Usually there is a break in period, in which one or two newer expensive knives are added to the collection and then the ones before really start to take abuse. The ones that don't will eventually end up sold to make way and funds for new ones!

Also, if I ever lose a knife hopefully I can learn from the experience and do something differently in order to prevent it from happening again!

I put a fob lanyard on my Eagletac D25c and went frisbee golfing just one time...that flashlight is now an all-season ornament or someone's new best friend. No more lanyards if I can help it!

Aw man! It snagged the tree?! That's terrible!

Don't blame the lanyard!
Blame..... Frisbee golf! ;)

Ive carried some customs I have from Brian Tighe that are in the 500.00 + range,as well as a few others but I don't do it that often.

Re: the comment about carrying $$$ knives as a status symbol -

I don't know about anyone else here, but absolutely no one that I'm around on a regular basis, where I'd actually be using my knives (at work or at home) would have even a clue of what they are looking at and where it falls in the spectrum of "status". I'd go further to say that by far and away the majority not only could care less, but many are actually repelled by the idea of someone carrying around a knife with them at all times. I also have no "knife loving friends" who know anything at all about the hobby. So at least for me, the concern for "status" has nothing whatever to do with it. I'm a very visual person and like to have reminders there are others in the world who appreciate the visual tactile world, as well as great design and pride in craft. Every time I use any of my knives they feed my appreciation of these things...like carrying a handheld work of art in your pocket that is actually functional in day-to-day life. I'm sure many have other reasons...but thought I'd share my own.

Knives are not status symbols. Cars are!

I carried a microtech Socom D/A custom edition with a very low serial number for many years. I paid over $600 for it way back when and carried it for 10 years until it was beat beyond recognition. Now I carry just run of the mill users.

I rotate my Strider SnG and my Large Sebenza every day. Why wouldn't I carry them? They are great knives and that is what I am into. I also carry a slipjoint and a lot of times it's my Case-Bose Lanny's clip.
