How often do you see 'higher end' knives out in public (other than in your own pocket)?

Honestly, not ever happened yet. I've never ran into anyone locally carrying anything above the Benchmade/Spyderco level. Not knocking those companies at all, but just once I'd get a real kick out of finding another Chris Reeve etc.....

Best I ever see are Kershaws, Gerbers, and Rat's (in aus8, never d2...) with the occasional Leatherman on someone's belt.

I have a few coworkers who carry Kershaw Blurs and one that is about to get his own mid-tech knife but other than that I had a plumber years ago pull out a Microtech OTF and that's been it. I was driving near my house the other day and saw someone with a USAMadeBlade sticker on their car and got excited.

Never and believe me I do look at guys pockets. Never came across anyone that even knew what higher end knives were outside of a guy that works at the gun shop I go to

My nephew.
Then me with Spyderco.

Everyone else has a Walmart special.

I think a lot of the variance in experience is going to come down to a person’s day to day exposure to large numbers of casual, casually/not cold weather clothed guys, in knife friendly places. Working where I do, I see around 400-500 people/day, in a mixed middle and lower class part of town, in a knife friendly city, and though it rains a lot in Portland, the locals frequently wear lightweight Columbia jackets and such, leaving pocket clips visible.

That’s just my workday.

There are relatively few knuts. Consider how many of us keep our "nice" knives in the box. It is no wonder a higher end seldom gets any fresh air.

I have seen people carrying knives like Leeks, Delicas, Enduras and some basic Benchmades. I have never really noticed anybody carrying anything nicer than that.

I come across a lot of people carrying Gerbers and sometimes Kershaws but mostly it's off brands.

However, I did see a Hinderer clipped to someone at a coffee shop once. Had a good knife related convo with another gentlemen while on public trans, I noticed the benchmade butterfly clipped to his pocket. He busted out the carbon fiber 940-1 and mentioned he owns a couple ZT's as well.

The best has been running into a couple ladies who are carrying and like showing what they have. All three times it's been Kershaws, once an all black blur, an other had a scallion and a bartender carried a leek. Not high end but for my neck of the woods, it was pretty cool.

They're out there (the knife nuts) amongst the masses, maybe we should start some secret call or gesture amongst us that we can the indetify our bladed brethren with?? (I'm joking.....only slightly)

Never and I'm annoyed by it... In 2012 I sold firearms for Fred Meyer (Kroger store in pnw) and I had a guy come in and asked if we had spyderco. I said no but he let me look at his...think it was a pm2. He called himself a knife nut so if you're on here, cheers and thanks for planting the seed in my ear. I didn't know anything past kershaw then.

I always hope someone will see my zaan and strike up conversation with me. Would make my day.

For 60 years I've made an exhaustive study of the contents of attractive women's pockets . Not only have I not detected any "high end" knives but also virtually NOTHING else either . Mystery to me why they even have pockets . However , I promise I'll remain ever vigilant ! ;)

Greetings,

Just kinda kicking this around in my brain bucket tonight...

OK, so perhaps, outside of going to Blade or a knife specific show, how often do you actually see a something like a Hinderer, CRK, Strider, heck, even a for real Emerson, in someone else's pocket out in general public?

I think I've seen a Sebenza...once...

Take an XM-18 to a large 'fun' show and you'll probably have the only one in the joint...

Contrary to all the threads, discussion, and photos here, such 'exotics' certainly seem to be reclusive in the wild...

What say you??

BOSS

Benchmade, ZT and Spyderco are the best I've seen.
