How/where do you carry your slipjoints?

I carry slipjoints in my left front pocket (keys and coins go in the right). Peanuts and small slippies ride loose. Larger knives go in a KSF pocket slip. These things are great.

Lots of votes for loose pocket carry. I guess you guys have large pockets. Being a medium build Asian, my pants/jeans pockets can only accommodate at most a 3.5" (closed) knife. Anything more and it bothers the heck out of me. Also having 3.5 inches lying horizontally in a pocket just looks odd to me. I'm gonna have to check out those the idea of wrapping the knife in a bandana or slip case. Hopefully it'll help prevent the knife from slipping off my preferred vertical position in the RF pocket.

I carry my traditional pocket knives in the right front pocket.

I like to use home-made pocket slips with small knives. My wife gets the leather from either old coats or from craft stores. The slips serve two purposes: 1) Stop stuff from hitting the knife, and 2) Insuring the knife stays closed in the pocket. When I did not use a slip, I sometimes ended up with coins lodged against the blade.

My EDC (#73 Scout) is in a slip in my left front pocket. My bigger "tool" knife (right now a #45 Lumber Jack but usually not a traditional) is in my right back pocket in a slip.

For those who only mention which pocket they carry in, the next logical question would be in which pocket do you carry your keys or coins? Same as the knife or different?

I don't mind a $100 slippy getting worn by regular use but I have a hard time letting it get scratched up by pocket stuff.

My mobile phone got to be so big that I've taken to carrying it in a holster on my belt. (At the rate things are going, it's only a matter of time before I have to start pushing it around in a wheelbarrow.) That emptied my LFP for the exclusive use of my pocket knife.

I can't believe all the ways listed to carry traditional slip joints lol .The believe the original term is pocket knife. I'd never heard the term slip joint until I came on here. Just put the dag gone thing in your pocket.

When I bought my first GEC, I was so worried about scratching it up that I had someone make me a pocket slip for it. I don't know why, I had never babied knives before but having to remove it from the pocket slip before using it became so annoying that I went back to the traditional method. Into the pocket they all go. :)

It's not really a big deal for me. Usually the knife goes in my front right pocket because I'm right handed, but sometimes it winds up in the left pocket, or in fact any pocket. I don't fret myself about scratching them up. The only definite for me is the wallet which goes in my front left on its own. Everything else always winds up somewhere.

Todays junk :)

Is that a Harris Tweed wallet? Nice. Wish I could find a source for those here. I was just in Edinburgh and really liked all the Harris Tweed stuff.

I'm not generally a slip joint guy, but I do carry a Gerber mini suspension loose in my front pocket. And it's usually that, or potentially that and a zippo in there. Occasionally a SAK with Paracord lanyard. Always in a front pocket, unless I'm wearing my 5.11 taclites, then the SAK goes in the knife pocket. God I love those pants.

I really like this thread and I am liking to see the different ways that people carry their knives.

Probably the short answer here might be "anywhere you like" and you'd be right! :D

There are a lot of good reasons to carry a knife in a particular place: a persons size, their typical clothing, the time of year, where you might be going, the cost of the knife, your knife preservation ideas, etc.

I have knives that are mint condition, some with blades that have a nice patina, and some that are antiques and look it. I like the variety.

There are some that would make fun of a fellow that slipped his pocket knife in a leather pouch, etc.

There are some that would cringe at the idea of carrying their knife in a pocket with loose change, car keys, etc. Others don't mind to do that at all. Back when I was a young man, most people had one every day knife and carried it in this way, myself included.

As I got older and more and more knives and more and more interest in knives, I paid more for some knives, and I got to where I rotated my every day carry, usually between many, many knives. I became more particular about the carry location and did not want to scratch up all my knives. Seems like the ones I paid more money to acquire or were more special to me got "a bit more care".

There is most likely one thing for certain, however you choose to carry a pocket knife, I would be willing to bet that you believe " that your way is the right way " and you are pretty firm on your position. I know I feel that way and I might be rather flexible in other areas. ;)

My other interest in this thread is Hey - someone might give me a new idea - I might like that way better. :)

But . . . . . . probably not! :D:D:D

I can see your point but......If you want to carry a pocket knife, I assume it is because you might need to use it, in which case it is probably going to get scratched and worn. If you don't want it scratched or worn I wouldn't carry it , I would carry something I'm not going to worry about unless your sole purpose of carrying it is to show it off to others.

It's an iphone case believe it or not, but wallets are readily available in Harris tweed where I live. Most tweed is woven by people in their own sheds on their own looms, there is a local fella who weaves a few miles away from my home. I sent you a visitor message :)

I had pretty much the exact same experience. I carried my first gec, a charkow, in a homemade slip for a while. But it added too much to the opening process. Now I just put then in the picket I went them in and go.

I have been carrying mine in the watch pocket (when not in khakis) and I find this the best and most comfortable unless the knife is 3.5" + in the closed position. I wear khaki shorts most of the summer and into the fall unless I am doing outdoor work. Sandwiching the spine between the two halves of my bi-fold wallet works to keep the knife vertical, but does present an issue at time when I pull out my wallet. I have dropped it once at a checkout while retrieving my wallet to pay. I want to one of the suggestion by So-Lo to stitch a vertical partition into my pockets to hold my slipjoints.

Right front pocket for me. My phone helps keep it from going sideways on me. Works fine for my SAKs and Opinels. My Case Mini Trapper and Peanut tend to slide around a bit more, though.

I´m a lefty and I use to wear jeans or cargo pants at work as well as in my spare time. My slipjoints use to ride my left front pocket or if small enough the coin pocket of the jeans.

Bigger knives like a Trapper or a GEC #23 use to ride left backpocket then.

I do not carry slippies on my belt, yet.

I made myself a leather slip case where I can carry knife that have some value to protect against scratches - but not that often.

I'm not as concerned about scratches as I am that slipjoints seem to slipoutofpockret. KSF pouch for me!
