Hype vs. Honesty

It started on McClung's forum, it spread to Strider's forum, there was even a thread in GB&U here awhile ago. You can turn it all up with a google search. You need to be a member at some of the forums to read the threads. Basically some people hired a PI to look into Mick Strider's past and using that info they contested his military background and made attacks on his character. The attacks went back and forth, McClung took a lot of heat for his description of himself as a "professional soldier" and his biography.

ISH if Maddog is involved I don't really need or want to know any more. Thanks but I'll just let this one pass.

McClung involved himself, he didn't start it. He did it to protect the tactical community (his words), it came off though as an attempt to discredit Mick Strider, but because of McClung's background, if anything it did the opposite because it all deflected back on him pretty much immediately, and then the thread locks came in, and they even shut down forum registration after the discussion started which looked fairly horrible.

I have not mentioned other knife manufacturers in any negative fashion in my previous posts. I had not planned to. But I am getting some information that I am verifying (to the best of my ability) that might shed some light on some of these other manufacturers that is not very positive.

I wonder if you are willi:D ng to be just as vicious with other companies when those companies motives and integrity are called into question.

Be patient- I'll have more soon

Ok, do you "have more" now?

CS's use of 420 bladesteel is hilarious in light of the fact that Thompson wrote opinion columns years ago that were critical of the steel. I wish I had the links. They've been posted on these CS threads in the past and made for some interesting reading. Maybe someone will post the links (hopefully).

Still on their website, stored at a Yahoo store for some reason:
http://www.coldsteel.com/articles1.html points to...
http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/csstoreonline/RIPOSTE97.PDF
Page "16" (3), middle. Also see a vague reference to cheap finishes on the next page.

Cold Steel doesn't specify exactly what kind of 420 they use, so maybe it's better than j2, but maybe they could have added "vague steel reference" to the list of ways to rip people off.

Edit:
Doh! I just got suckered into replying to last year's thread!

This thread opener had the right title that is for sure. Hype vs. Honesty. I just read 7 freakin pages and never once saw the promised "more". I guess it was all hype and no honesty.

I said it before and I'll say it again. For DngrRuss1 to have nothing more than a friendship with some "Cold Steel" employees and an interest in CS knives, you sure know a whole heck of alot about CS and the inside workings!

If I were Lynn Thompson I'd be upset you were trying to represent CS on these forums but doing nothing more than pissing off people. Not to mention his employees talk too much about the inner workings of CS to just a "friend".

I still believe you are alot closer to Lynn than you make us think.

I don't buy CS because they don't make any knives that I consider to be good.

Their stupid advertising is a reason to make fun of them, but it doesn't stop me from buying them.

LT might be a moron, or he might be a saint on the inside. I don't know.

If CS made a knife that I wanted, I would buy it. Advertising and LT aside.

I try to buy knives based on the merit of the knife. Not just the model, but the exact knife before me. Even across the same model, knives vary. One model A might not be that great. Another model A might be really strike a chord with me.

But I am only human. There are reasonable preferences (one blade style over another, stag or G-10...) and unreasonable preferences (one brand over another, one country over another), and I think everyone will make purchases based on both kinds of preference.

Note that I am not saying it is unreasonable to buy a CRK over an Mtech because the CRK is a better knife. Nor an American knife over a Chinese knife because the American knife is a better knife. I am talking about making a purchase purely because of one of the other. In other words, if two knives are "equal" and you buy one just because you prefer the brand or the country of origin (and not for reasons pertaining to the knife itself and its actual merits).

For me it seems that some people determine the quality of Cold Steel knives
by their dislike of the company and/or its CEO.

It's okay to make a buying decision that's not only based on the quality
of a knife but also based on one's preference or dislike of a company.

But....the quality of a knife should be based on the quality only,
and not be based upon one's preference or dislike of the company
that produces the knife.

BTW, I'm also still waiting for the news about the other knife manufacturers
the thread starter was talking about in November 2005

Edited for small modifications of my English

Since there are those here that appear to have been waiting for my next post, let me make a short (if I can  ) statement-

As i said before, I do have a business to run and very small children to raise. If my free time activities are a choice between them and you guys- sorry, you lose.

I do not want to make any statements or claims without either firsthand knowledge or names and information to back it up. Much of the flaming I have taken here is because of both my opinions and actual information I have first-hand knowledge of. Some have not seen the distinction between the two and have accused me of either bieng wrong or outright lying. So, to prevent some of that, I want any and all facts accurately stated and my opinions to be educated ones.

On a personal note, when I have made (rather lengthy) statements and have subsequently been raked over the coals, I would put out a statement of fact (i.e. the patent number controversy from the "CS- love 'em..." thread), and am still called a liar or fraud by the haters. As fun as it is to go 3 rounds with those... ahem... spirited individuals, I don't lay awake at night coming up with new ways to argue with you guys. Truthfuly, I've got better things to do with my time and I will get the information and expose's when I can.

Patience my friends. I am not gone, just busy.

So give us a rough percentile of when we can expect to see your thesis. Eight months is a long time and granted, a business and children take up tremendous amounts of time. That said, do they stay up all hours of the night? Is your business run on a 24/7/365 schedule to which your tied to the desk and phone? Surely you could have posted something relevant to the topic since you hopped on in a flash the same day this tired old thread was resurrected. Please. Let us know the details. Inquiring minds would like to know.

Not that I feel the need to explain my personal time to those here, but, yes, my children do sometimes stay up late, I work a rather physical job and am just plain tired at the end of the day, and I lurk BF several times a week.

Much like many other forums I am a member of- I only feel the need to post if I have something relavant, or at least entertaining, to add. I won't post anything without facts or educated opinion, and gathering said facts and education also takes time. Otherwise, I just sit back and read for my own purposes.

I am just surprised, given the flame and disbelief I was given previously, that these old threads are being pulled up and I am being confronted again, even though I have kept mum for awhile.

Gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

Fair enough. Just seems a bit excessive in time to follow-up. From our perspective, you have the "in" with CS so we await the answers from you that you said you would provide. As I asked before, is there a rough ETA on your research? For all we know it could be 3 years from now. If I'm asking too soon, please let me know. Thanks.

The best I can give you is "as soon as possible". Let me knock on a few doors and make a few calls. Takes time. But I should have some more soon.

Though, again, the thread I linked above did follow this one, and I addressed some of those issues in that thread. But I will try to get more soon.

Wow started a thread on 11/18 offering big facts about other knife companies, but simply can't do it in 8 months worth of BS. Then he links to his other pointless thread here. Go to that thread, he links to this thread. Wow very informative.

One patent date that shows Cold Steel is very willing to loophole others and the rest of your arguement is based solely on, "I am me and I know those in question so I am right". That doesn't fly. Like I said in the other thread, by my count you are down at least one, because you managed to turn me off to their products.

You have plenty of time to make all kinds of posts in the past few months. But you can't give us the details that will bring down all other knife companies and raise Cold Steal on a pedestal as the sole savior of Knifedom.

Come on lets hear it, we don't care what you say but lets hear it. Don't hide behind your family to stall for time. It's apparently so important that it's all you seem to care about here and the sole reason your here on Bladeforum.
