I’m a Spyderco owner waiting to happen!

You can’t go wrong with Spyderco.
All the Spyderco knives seem to fit me perfectly from the dragonfly 2 to the Military I like them all.

There are a few specials out there in different steels. Dlt has purple cruwear pm3 and pm2.

But performance wise I like zdp189 endura, or hap 40 steel both are still available.
Delica and manix 2 are also great users to add to your pocket time.
Great answer, gets me thinking! Everyone seems to be gaga about Cruwear! I see why when I hear Dr. Thomas discuss powdered metallurgy steels! He’s a very bright young man! Maybe…….maybe Cruwear!

You can hardly go wrong with Spyderco. Personally, I love the Dragonfly 2. I have 4. Might be an inexpensive start, and go from there.

I would ask what your plans are for it. You mention being a sportsman- fishing/hunting/camping? If so, you might like an endura or salt series for being in wet conditions. My personal favorite folder is a PM2- it just feels right, is slicey, and I just love it. A nice choice of steels and scales. Good luck with your search.

Hi! Thanks for the input. I have considered a Caribbean as I just might chop up some frozen squid for bait. I’m pretty fond of CPM S110V and S90V as well as Magnacut so any if the new steels with reasonable corrosion resistance will work. Of course LC200N is a huge contender if I’m gonna be cutting bait on the breakwater. Cheers!

If we were neighbors I’d learn one and play it when we barbecue!
I like that!

Alright, let's get down to brass tacks. The Endura is my favorite pocket knife platform. The size, weight, cutting angle, etc. is perfect for my needs. I also happen to live in a rain forest, so I use a Pacific Salt with H1 steel. It's the best all-arounder I've experienced so far. It really comes down to personal preference. The knife isn't flashy at all but it sure is capable!

You want the Para 2 in 15v. Iconic Spydie with a wonderful steel, with a great heat treat. IMO, this choice is representative of some of the really impressive and unique things that Spyderco IS as a company. Another option would be a Para 2 or Para 2 in K390 (which are in stock at the exclusive dealer). There are other choices, of course, but I think of the the Para2 15v as the quintessential modern Spydie.

Delica, Native or Dragonfly. They all fit your hand like they were built specifically for it.

I’ve got great fodder to chew now. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Spyderco is starting to use Magnacut in the Salt series. That may be your best option for a longer lasting edge. You might want to pick one that you can take apart and clean fairly easy. Rust may develop in the hidden areas if you’re using it all day without rinsing it off. I find it way easier to take apart a compression or liner lock than a back lock. If you’re good with the size range you already have, you should be able to find a Spyderco that will be comparable. Good luck in your hunt !!!!

You didn't list sizes for your knives. I know the the small sebenza roughly. Never even handled one but I've seent it. Normally in other knives review videos as a comparison. I now have 3 pm2s n they have way too much handle to blade ratio for me. Gotta hate that spyderco is the only manufacturer to use certain steels but thats what I'm into. The manix 2 is the only knife I have from them that I'd rock besides for the steel. If I can find a 15v shaman for what I want to pay I might decide I like it.

Judging your preference off the small sebenza. I'm not sure you'd like a bigger knife like I do. I'm pretty sure the shaman is bigger compared to a pm2. I gotta compensate though. I drive this big truck just to go 5 feet down the road and carry around mostly empty job boxes. It gives me so much sticker space too. That's important.

Also you're the first person I've heard calling it a para 2 n that threw me for a loop on sizes. It's normally pm2 or para 3. I don't know why. The handle to blade ratio is a lot better with the para 3.

I’m with ya! Magnacut is my hot steel lately. The Sebenza and Malibu are both Magnacut. I’m pretty proficient at sharpening yet do much more stropping than sharpening.

Thanks for clarifying correct terminology for the pm2 and para 3! 😳😊. I do lean toward compact but do recognize utility value of larger knives. I won’t plan heavy use ever. Lighter weight but strong frame is a plus. A quick deploy, very sharp edge and handy blade shape are my starting priorities. Compact or full size are all being considered

You said that you're attracted to high end steels? Look no further than the latest and greatest BBB 15V in either a Manix, PM2, or Shaman. You can pick one up in the exchange right now! I have all three so I love em all!

PM2 all the way. It’s kind of mid-size, very slicey geometry, and they make one in tons of different steels. I recently picked up a SMKW M4/CF PM2. It was very rough when I got it (not the norm for a Spyderco), but it is breaking in very nicely. I’ve been loving the M4 so far, it likes to tear through cardboard like nothin. 333F3A5B-4AAB-460C-B669-82D715EE8784.jpeg
Also, now that this is breaking in, it is by far the easiest PM2 to reverse-flick I’ve owned (out of about 5). The break-away of the detent is set perfectly for that. 👍
