i bought it at walmart today

on a whim i checked a walmart in an area im normally not in, and they had the native, only had 2 left so i snagged one.
man this things really nice, i'll need to get used to the hole opening, im normally a thumb stud person myself. i also usually prefer locks other than standard, but this one is easy to close one handed.

best $40 knife on the market.

Thank you for the pic of the knife...I want to buy one for my husband and I wanted to be sure I knew what it looked like before I went. Gracias!! ~Amy

Just a thought - I looked again at the knife that CapCase posted and saw the stamp with Spyderco and the CPM-S30V. I was wondering if there was anything on the reverse that I should know about before I buy. Again, I am a complete newbie (just trying to get a good gift for hubby). I looked on eBay for the heck of it and saw some that said made in china or japan, is that correct? Any advice you could give me would help. KNowing me, I would go to W-M and buy the wrong damn knife!! Thanks, Amy

just go to walmart and look on the cardboard display for the spyderco native stock number 60. knowing just that info there it would be hard to get the wrong thing

Spyderco knives are made in the USA. On the other side of the knife it says the following:

Golden Colorado
USA Earth

I just picked one up on Saturday. It's my first Spyderco. I really like it.

WM in Linton IN no Natives- Terre Haute IN has them in stock. Bedford IN has them in stock. Martinsville IN no Natives.

Hi Jedikiller,

Just a point to clarify...roughly half of Spydercos are made in the U.S., roughly half in Japan. This particular model however is indeed made in Golden Colorado Earth.

I know, I was half asleep when I posted it. I didn't word the sentence correctly. ;)

Thanks for all the good advice. The WM in Conway, SC doesn't have it. They don't even carry any products by Spyderco and the guy at the counter looked at me like I was nuts. Crap....guess I'll have to keep looking.

i got that same reaction at the store near me. infact he flat out called me crazy. low and behold i found one at a walmart in a different part of town

When you visit a Wal-Mart, they can search all stores within a 150 mile radius using the handheld "Telxon" and the item locator function. Ask management to check it for you using the posted UPC number. If they don't want to cooperate-call 1-800-wal-mart.

They can also have the item transferred from another store through a merchandsie transfer (MTR). They can locate the item by calling the buyer and they can check real-time on hands for every store in the company.

I have worked for Wal-Mart for 11 years and I am very proud of our company. However, there are many stores in the chain out of 3,800 outlets that do not want to take care of our customers and the only way it is to be corrected is by someone speaking up.

Careful, scary sharp is right. My second spider bite, will have to keep bandaids on hand.

Hi Daniel,

Thanx for the input. Apparently they have sold through better than anticipated, probably because of the "holiday" ;) season. Their replenishment system is running a little behind.

I think that once the initial "bugs" are worked out, they won't run out. Wal-Mart's intention is to give the customer what the customer wants. They are loyal to their customers. If their customers say they want high quality USA made products, then Wal-Mart will do that. That's why they were interested in the Native.

As you mentioned, speaking up is always important. Apparently they are listening closely to the controversy and are trying to make the necessary adjustments to "gain and keep their customers".

2 Walmarts in town. One with the other without. Guess which one I went to first!:o Now I have one. Like I needed another Native. Just hard to pass up at that price.

My question is whether spyderco makes these wal-mart natives to the same standard of previous existing natives. E.g., a lower quality FRN or something.
If spyderco didn't make any compromise on the quality of this knife, I would go get one immediately.

Hi Huh,

It was the decision of the Spyderco crew not to reduce the quality of the model. Spyderco works for the End Line User. It wouldn't be our way to give less.

Actually, the fine tuning improved the quality.

The same CPM-S30V (Crucible), ground and sharpened to the same standard. The FRN is actually improved, but that's because Dupont has recently improved that particular material.

A lot of horsepower for the: size, weight or Dollar.

The entire "business chain" from; raw materials, manufacturing, marketing, selling, distributing, shipping, warrantees, insurance, credit, etc. ALL EXISTS to service the ELU (End Line User). Remove the ELU from the equation and the entire business chain falls like a house of cards. We all work for you!

Bought mine yesterday after going to two other walmarts that were sold out! No regrets here, one solid deal:).

awwww...just called 4 stores within a decent radius of me and all were completely clueless and kept asking what brand when would tell them spyderco, they didn't believe it was a brand. oh well.
