I just got my SOG Pillar in, and boy am I disappointed. What a letdown.

Yeah, I’ve read the whole thread. Seems like you’re pretty upset man. I simply pointed out, very politely, that sharpening a knife is a skill and replacing batteries is not a skill, separates the these examples entirely. When a knife shows up dull, most will have to send the knife back to the manufacturer because most don’t know how to sharpen which brings everything back to the original post. Most people would be disappointed to receive a dull knife because most people would have to send it back to be sharpened. If most people received a flashlight with dead batteries, every single one of them could replace the batteries. I think you’re own ability to sharpen might be impairing your ability to see this objectively. Can I please request 5 more words like obtuse in your polite response.

It doesn’t matter if “most people don’t know how to sharpen”, because the person to whom you were replying mentioned sending it back to the manufacturer/dealer. So, once again, your point is a non-point, because you’re arguing with a person who is writing something with which you are both in agreement. Be honest, you and Paratrooper are toon accounts for OP, huh?

If it’s any consolation, I have never bought a Sog product that had a decent factory edge. I usually sharpen my new knives anyway whether they have a sharp factory edge or not.

It’s entire thread of people misstating points to fit their narrative. I’m fine with trolling on IG or whatever, but I don’t sh*t where I eat. You people literally have to be trolling at this point to be ignoring obvious statements so readily.
Yeah, everyone is trolling, obtuse, and pedantic but you.

If everyone agreed with you, we’d all be wrong.

I gotta admit that I was so amped for this knife, heard nothing but great things about the Sog Pillar. It looked great, and just fit the bill for what I wanted in a fixed blade knife. I love s35vn steel, but when I got it in, it was as blunt as a butter knife. The factory edge on this knife was pathetic. It's a $200.00 knife, and I shouldn't have to fix the edge on it when it arrives. I'm not kidding. I got butter knives that cut better than this thing. It failed the paper test, and it feels like a butter knife edge. How does that happen??? Well, as soon as you start thinking SOG has their act together, they show you who they really are once again. I'm just sad.
Well at least it wasn't a $500 knife that came with a crappy edge, as you'll get on most Sebenzas.
Personally I wish knife companies would either get the edge right or ship unsharpened.
Across the hundreds of knives I've owned in the last 20 years Cold Steel has the most consistent edge geometry, them and probably Victorinox.
Why everyone else has such a rough time sharpening knives I will never understand, clearly price is not a factor.

Companies selling unsharpened knives would actually be kind of cool.

I've gotten dull knives from virtually every maker people speak highly of around here, at some point or other. Two easy choices, here. Either sharpen it, or else just return the knife and get something else. Both of those would be proactive, mature moves to make.

I didn’t ask you to agree with me. I asked you not to misstate other people’s arguments, so that you could continue your narrative. Yet you continue to do so. So yes, you’re obtuse and/or trolling. You have also glommed onto minutiae within other people’s posts in an attempt to drive your false narrative. That’s pedantry.

My opinion has been stated: sharpen the knife or reach out the the maker/dealer and get it resolved. In an instance in which there are really two choices that involve any action, and my opinion is “do one of them”, your disagreeing is just simply you wanting to be a contrarian, which is consistent with your other threads.

But by all means, let’s continue. You can keep misstating points and I’ll keep reiterating them.

In all seriousness though I think the thread can be closed. OP has some good suggestions here in both good faith and not for how to proceed.

1. Return the knife to the retailer for money back or a factory sharpened SOG Pillar

2. Contact SOG directly and see what their customer service department says

3. Sharpen the knife

4. Howl at the moon

Other than that it is just a roundabout circular discussion about the way things should be, injustice in the world, manufacturer QC consistency between companies, and generalized internet sniping.

OP whipped up this thread Thursday and walked away. Much like the $1000 knives he claims to own, I doubt the dull SOG exists, yet this thread has been hopping for days.

L Lasador …put up or shut up, pics or it didn’t happen. Postimages.org, upload your pic, copy/paste hotlink for forums. Otherwise you’re a troll and should be treated like one.

My Cheburkov Strizh came without an edge. I don't mean dull, NO EDGE. That's a $400+ knife. It was unfortunate, but I fixed it. SOG isn't known for incredible quality. Return, exchange, or sharpen it up yourself.

Moderating a big forum sucks and can be like a part time job. Cut em some slack 😂
Despite wishes they do so, they don’t just ban people because a couple guys snap their fingers and demand it. OP could be legit, you never know. People should get the benefit of the doubt. Maybe he will come back and redeem himself with a bunch of photos?

Hope springs eternal.
